Everything Steve Kerr, and More!
Ever woke up on a Monday morning and thought, "I wonder what Steve Kerr is thinking about my beloved Phoenix Suns?" Well, you're in luck! To provide some clarity to the masses about the past, present and future of Suns basketball, I present you all with a nice yahoo article.
Here are some of my favorite quotes:
About bringing Shaq on board:
“What we did was, we decided to give a team that was slightly in decline, and no longer a championship contender in our minds, one last chance,”
That's certainly one way to look at it.
Kerr's Vision:
“I want length, I want defense...Length and defense and youth is my vision. Unfortunately, it doesn’t happen overnight. It takes several drafts. It takes maybe a couple of trades, but we’re continuing to do that.”
Yes, defense is a good thing. Wait, um, defense? No, not getting it. Isn't that a little bit like offense but not so much?
On Steve Nash and his extension:
“We want him to finish his career here, if that’s possible...We’ll continue to talk, and I think he wants to see how this all pans out with our team and see where we’re heading. But I’m confident that we’ll have him here.”
Not really the same as "He ain't going anywhere," but we get the idea, I guess.
And my favorite of the article, Kerr waxes philosophical about the value of a man in the National Basketball Association:
“... I’m always mindful of the fact that everybody’s expendable at some level...Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem, Dr. J—they were all expendable.”
I think GM's, coaches, and owners should be included in that quote.

And owners
Robert Sarver
Owner, Phoenix Suns Basketball Team
Phoenix, Arizona
Dear Jerry
I am very upset. I want to throw things. My basketball team that YOU sold me doesn’t go zoom-zoom anymore. YOU said it would practically run itself. You agreed with your buddy Jerry Jones that I could find 500 people to run it and they would still be fun. How would I know that I found the 501st guy? I want my money back. All these fans do is yell at me. I wave my big purple finger in support of the team, and everybody just waves their finger back at me. This team is more trouble that it is worth. And now my wife says I should start counting ping pong balls. I did my best to be a generous owner. I did not think those other GMs had enough draft picks. I gave the pogo stick man a busload of money, but he keeps getting hurt and won’t play defense. Now the little guy who won those two trophies is telling me what to do. I told my GM to draft a big man, and he came back with Bozo the clown. Man, I didn’t know Bozo was seven feet tall! Me and my GM were at the hotel, and I had a lot of luggage, and I told him to go get a porter. How was I to know he was going to let him coach!
Now we missed the playoffs, and all I see when I lay down to sleep is those ping pong balls. Can you give me my $400 million back?
Your friend,
Robert

Here's proof that something can be funny and unfunny at the same time. I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Well done.
Detras de ti, imbecil.

A note on (not to) Kerr
Except for Marion (and I think Kerr learned a lesson in diplomacy), I haven’t heard the players talk negatively about Kerr (even Marrion didn’t, really, but I don’t know if that’s in his nature). With all the turnover, the players at least seem to respect that Kerr keeps thme in the loop and tells them the truth (while lying to the media). Boris and Raja were upset about “the system”
Seems to me that Kerr has the leadership/character qualities to survive — maybe not the brains, though. I started grading him with this draft; he gets a “pass” on what he inherited — including D’Antoni’s request for Shaq.

sounds fine to me.
but he seems to admit too often that the bad decisions were because D’Antoni wanted something or Steve Nash wanted something.
Next we’ll here, “I moved Amar’e and Nash because Lou told me he’d sign in Europe if I didn’t do it”.
Who are these guys again?

**D**
I think there is a difference between a guy who is a lock down defender and a player that is capable of playing adequate defense:
The warriors as a team have not played good defense but they do have a few people who play adequate defensively, KB for one, AR seems committed, RT, Marco has gotten better, and Jack is our version of a lock down defender:
AB is still soft on D because he gets called for so many fouls, if he could minimize the fouls he could play a much more aggressive style of D, but until he can figure out how to stay out of fould trouble he will be soft:
