Rumor Central
So, as we have all noticed, there have been quite the slew of trade rumors being tossed around sites, most of which involve Amaré and Shaq. This thread is being started so as to (try to) keep track of the various rumors being thrown out. Time to get down to business!
The Wizards:
They give: Antawn Jamison, Mike James, and the #5 pick.
We give: Amaré Stoudemire.
While I echo the words of Stan in saying that this trade doesn't make a ton of sense, adding salary in a time when it's been stated that we're trying to cut expenses, I like this trade overall. Read more about this trade here.
The Bulls:
So, there have been a few trade rumors (or variations on a rumor) discussed, but I'm going to stick with the two that seem to actually have more roots than typical blog banter.
Trade 1:
They give: Luol Deng, Tim Thomas, and Jerome James.
We give: Shaquille O'Neal.
I like this trade, minus the obvious hole it leaves at starting C. Lopez isn't ready for that kind of responsibility, and pushing Amaré to the 5 and sliding a SF into the PF spot won't work. Remember what happened to Matt Barnes? Read more about the possible modifications to this trade here.
Trade 2:
They give: Tyrus Thomas, Tim Thomas, and John Salmons.
We give: Amaré Stoudemire and Alando Tucker.
I think I like this trade even more, but only if we can somehow get rid of Jason Richardson. We already have a logjam at the 2, and having to split minutes between Richardson, Salmons, and Barbosa would be a nightmare. Read the in depth analysis of this here.
The Celtics:
They give: Rajon Rondo and Ray Allen.
We give: Amaré Stoudemire and (maybe?) Leandro Barbosa.
This trade has made the least sense out of any of the many that have arisen in recent days. Yet, for some reason, it's still being talked about in Phoenix. Say the trade does happen...who are we left with at the 4? Try to make a free agent signing? Lou Amundson? And then we pick up Rondo...that basically leaves Goran Dragic as dead space. Then, at the 2, we have Ray Allen (who is an All Star and should be starting) and Jason Richardson, who would probably throw a fit if he wasn't starting. This makes no sense to me. Read more about it here.
The Cavaliers:
They give: Ben Wallace and Sasha Pavlovic.
We give: Shaquille O'Neal.
With Ben Wallace considering retirement (and the slim chance that he says, "Sure, I'll retire and not take any money from you, when I could just as easily make you pay me") and the fact that I am already biased against players whose names start with "Sasha" and end with "-ic" (ahem, this guy), I think this trade isn't good for the Suns. If Ben Wallace were healthy and not considering retirement, I might be a little higher on this trade, as it would fill the void left by Shaq at the 5, but...that doesn't seem to be the case. It makes complete sense for the Cavaliers, but no sense for the Suns. We don't even save that much money. More on this here.
Let me know if I've forgotten any major trade proposals, but I think I covered most of the more recent ones. I could be mistaken, though. And, for fun...here's a poll.

hmmmm
I would definitely do the Amare for Tim, Tyrus and Salmons. That gives us exactly what we need in the post and a bunch of depth. The problem is rotation!!
Go read a book!

I definitely like Ty Thomas and John Salmons coming back, but yeah, it would mean having to get rid of J. Rich.

Gambo's throwing out Butler+5 for Amare
http://ktar.com/?sid=1175731&nid=624
Which I would do ASAP
Steve Nash, the league's MVP, is a longhaired Canadian who spoke out against the war in Iraq and reads The Communist Manifesto. Quentin Richardson declared after a game-winning shot that it "was like Hamlet. It was a suspense thriller, and I killed them at the end." Amare Stoudemire, when asked to comment on a 22-point third quarter against the Kings, said, "I've got a tendency to jump over some guys' heads and throw it down."

I second that
If that’s on the table, they should take it in half a second.

Agreed ...
… if this one’s on the table, take it. I’m a big fan of Caron Butler.

Do you play
JRich and Butler together and forget about Hill?

Or do you then
try and dump JRich which I am still very much in favor of doing

I'm not so sure about that
Hill won’t be around forever, it seems odd to dump J-Rich just because of him.
I know Hill struggled of the bench earlier in the season, but that was under Porter- whose to say he won’t do great off the bench when it’s more up-tempo?
I just don’t see Butler as a 2- I don’t think he has the lateral quickness. But I do love the idea of Hill taking him under his wing.

"throwing out" being the operative term.
That would be a steal for the Suns. The Wiz better hire Don Nelson because an Arenas, Young, Blatche, Jamison, Amare will need to outscore everyone since they sure as hell aren’t defending anyone.

What happen to that Shaq deal to the Hornets I’m a big fan of Tyson Chandler and our medical staff is superunderated..I bet you we got Chandler and he plays about 75-80 games

I voted for the Amare to WAS deal, but I don’t really like any of them the way they are currently put together. Any trade needs to net an immediate cap savings. I voted for the 1st deal because it makes a lot of sense if you put Stevenson in the deal in place of James, since Stevenson makes more than 2.5 mil less than James in 2009/10 and has only one extra year on his deal for a relatively affordable 4 mil. That is a huge advantage. On top of that I don’t see James getting on the court for the Suns; they would probably be trying to buy him out to save money. (I guess if that sort of buyout was in place the original deal makes sense.) Stevenson, besides being cheaper, has a better chance of being useful as a player at some point.

Shaq for Deng=my first choice
Or Shaq for Chandler.
Or Richardson for Dalembert.
Or Richardson for Hinrich.
Or Richardson for a bag of chips.
Richardson and Dudley for Boris and Raja sounds like a swell deal to me.

Golden State trade
not sure if it still has legs but it’s the best trade idea still.
Warriors send- Anthony Randolph
Andris Biendrins
#7 pick
Suns send- Amare Stoudemire
would immediately bring back size, defense, and youth
by Funky Flapsack on Jun 4, 2009 11:28 AM MDT reply actions 0 recs
I do still like this one the best. Hopefully the Suns pursue it, then worry about trading Shaq to provide financial relief.
by jburning on Jun 4, 2009 11:39 AM MDT up reply actions 0 recs
That would be awesome for the Suns...
No way I could see the Warriors agreeing to that though. A good young starting big guy, and their top prospect, and a top 10 pick? Knowing that Amare has only 1 year left on his contract and has been all over the media talking about going somewhere he can compete for a title? What are the chances GS could actually get him to sign long term? They’d have to be very very confident in being able to get that new contract done before they agreed to give up so much talent for him
by manphibian on Jun 4, 2009 11:46 AM MDT up reply actions 0 recs
I guess it would have to be sign-and-trade
If youre the Warriors, you do it, because it immediately makes you a playoff contender. Steven Jackson is a badass. Monta Ellis is a scorer. They might need to trade for an actual PG though. They might be little thinner on the front line, but im sure they could pick up someone via free agency or trade. I think it would work for both teams
by Funky Flapsack on Jun 4, 2009 12:07 PM MDT up reply actions 0 recs
Combine this trade
With the Shaq trade for Deng.
Then package Richardson and the #7 ( I imagine we would need to include the 14 in the trade with GS) to the Kings or Thunder for their pick, and pick up Rubio ( I head him going to Memphis is not an option), Holliday or Flynn and get the following lineup
Nash/Rubio
Barbosa
Deng
Randolph
Biedrins
And you might have one of the best SSOL lineups ever, as well as a great nucleus to build around

Are you kidding?
Golden State is somking a ton of weed? They would laugh you off the phone, That is absolute steal for the Suns. Maybe Randolph and the 7, maybe.

This is the same thing Kobe did a couple yrs ago and look where they are now..im up for trading amare if need be..but not in the off-season..I’d wait til the deadline because with a full season of our old system the rumors and talk will go away..I just remember watching phx with amare and without and as much as nash makes him better he makes nash better..Shaq and J-rich should be our first priority to trade…Plus phx gave up 10 more ppg after amare got injured hes no defensive specialist but better than given credit for
by Lebrontophx2010 on Jun 4, 2009 1:18 PM MDT reply actions 0 recs
The problem with trading him at the deadline would be that instead of getting Amare for the year, they would only be trading for 1/2 a season (and playoffs) before having to compete with everyone else if he opts for free agency.
by Chucko667 on Jun 4, 2009 5:11 PM MDT up reply actions 0 recs
Or...
we could even pull what the Pistons/Nuggets did, and do a trade mid-November
by Funky Flapsack on Jun 4, 2009 2:20 PM MDT reply actions 0 recs
Another option:
We do the Rondo/Allen trade for Amar’e/Barbosa, and find a trade with Nash to bring back young player and a top draft pick. Then trade J-Rich for whatever we can get hopefully a first rounder next year to replace the one we trade a couple years ago. Hold on to Shaq to get the Salary cap space for next season and go after 1 or 2 big name free agents.
It gives us the ability to start rebuilding without it taking 3-4 years like normal. This year would probably be a wasted year but next year we would be able to get instantly.

Shaquille O’Neal/Jason Richardson/Robin Lopez/Alando Tucker
to Chicago for
Luol Deng/Tyrus Thomas/Brad Miller/Jerome James(80% covered by insurance) or substitute Kirk Hinrich in for Luol Deng still works financially
If not possibly trading J-Rich to the clippers for Camby. The Clippers are loaded in the front court and pairing Baron Davis and J-Rich would improve the Clippers. And Phoenix gets a good big man who can defend and rebound.
If we are going to trade Amare and he wants to go to Atlanta trade him for Joe Johnson it works evenly. Or Amare for Josh Smith/Acie Law/Speedy Claxton.I like the Johnson deal better.
Or finally Nash and Amare/14th pick
to the clippers for
Marcus Camby/Baron Davis/1st Pick
by Lebrontophx2010 on Jun 4, 2009 7:38 PM MDT reply actions 0 recs
I like the idea behind this deal;
“Amare for Josh Smith/Acie Law/Speedy Claxton”
An Amare for Josh Smith trade could make sense for both teams, but having both Law and Claxton in there makes no sense from any angle for the Suns. This trade would have to happen during the Free Agency period, after salaries switch to 09/10 and Smith is no longer a BYC. Make it Smith, Mo Evans, and a future 1st; that is just enough salary to make it work, at 13.3 mil combined for Smith and Evans in 09/10. That’s an immediate 3+ mil savings against the cap compared to Amare’s 16.3+ mil. We get an immediate borderline all-star level replacement starter at PF for both the short and long term, and we add a 1st in the 2010 draft. Evans could even be useful as a backup wing player and he has a very affordable contract with only one year plus a player option in 10/11, both for 2.5 mil.

Kerr shot everything down on AZcentral
Not that that means anything, they don’t want people to know they are contemplating trades.

Yes
of course all of this is just wild chit chat…but hey, what else is there to do? Watch the Lakers?
