Talked to Amare Lastnight

I know it doesn't mean much, but I workout at the same gym as Amare. Lifetime fitness in Tempe. I have talked to Amare before at his summer pro am for the past couple years. Nothing major but he is a cool guy to talk to. Nevertheless, I was working out and he was on the machine next to me, he asked why I wasn't at the pro am the previous weekend. We get to talking, and I just had to know, even though its probably not the time or place, but I wanted to know what his thoughts were about the trade chatter. Now I have always liked Amare but whatever is best for the team is what i want. He tells me he really wants to stay in Phoenix, Loves the fans, City, Nightlife(ha), etc.

Star-divide

I had to sympathize with him, because I don't know how I would feel if my name were getting thrown around like that, But he said he understands the NBA is a business, and no one is untouchable, that everyone has their price. I didn't want to start talking about contracts but he assured me he is working really hard this summer and wants to make it work in Phoenix with Nash. For all that I know this all could have been lip service, and in the back of his mind he could just be thinking "show me the money." His agent seems to think he is worth 20 mill a year, I don't think we can do that. I wanted so badly to just say that if you showed some responsibly and leadership, this team and this town would be yours. But the fact of the matter is that I don't know if it is in him. Its always been someone else when it comes to Amare.

Remember him saying that if the Suns get a center then Amare can really tear it up because we wont have to guard centers and go to work on the offensive end. Ok we get shaq, and now Shaq clogs the lane and he cant get it going offensively. The Suns would give you the world, you're 26 with limitless talent, great hands, and one of games best finishers next to Lebron. but he needs to realize that he needs to earn it, Look at his Olympic counterparts that really stepped it up on the defensive end. Lebron and Melo to be more specific.

This got me to thinking that if the Suns do extend him and really show how committed we are to him, what could all these trade rumors do to his confidence? Is he going to be the cornerstone of our franchise? Or is he going to turn into Tmac like so many others have compared him too.

Honestly I have a hard time giving anyway such talent like that for some spare parts, Nothing we are getting in these trades are proven. Here is the fact Im getting to, You trade Amare, you lose Nash, you lose Nash, Grant Hill is gone as well. That leaves you with a young team where Biendris, Leandro and Jrich are your best players. Please no, I'm not ready to enter the Jon Wall sweepstakes before the season even starts. The worst part about that is, we don't even have our pick for 2010, the ONLY thing that rewards a bad season.

I think we should give it one more run, Get Tyson Chandler, and ball. I dont think there a is a reason to blow it up now if we dont have to just yet.

Main problem with keeping him is he wants the max

Like you said, we can’t do that…he’s not worth that.

Steve Nash, the league's MVP, is a longhaired Canadian who spoke out against the war in Iraq and reads The Communist Manifesto. Quentin Richardson declared after a game-winning shot that it "was like Hamlet. It was a suspense thriller, and I killed them at the end." Amare Stoudemire, when asked to comment on a 22-point third quarter against the Kings, said, "I've got a tendency to jump over some guys' heads and throw it down."

He may not be worth that, but someone will pay him. It just won’t be Robert Sarver.

don’t know about the reliability, but Broussard says they are talking extension with him.

Thats a cool story, ty Ryan

I have enormous respect for Amare as a person, wish mgmt could make it work. They’ve been so willing to push people out.

Who are these guys again?

by ZonaFlash on Jun 30, 2009 3:51 PM MDT reply actions   0 recs

that gets me back to my point in some sense that I didnt really elude too, He had a twitter that said he is going to the Lakers and would take less money to get a Champoinship. The funny thing is I dont think he cares about winning as much as he just wants to be the “guy” not just the guy on a team. Because Joe Johnson is the guy in ATL but the the level of the one name guys. Kobe, Lebron, Dwade, CP3, etc. and that is where Amare wants to be, Its just sad because he should want to take less money to make it work in Phoenix.

Amare is cool

I was sitting next to him at a light in traffic. He looked over and gave me a head nod. Just to be like “what’s up bro?”. It was pretty cool

+1

Season was never the same after he took them off. I think they also helped him see clearly with his mind, as protect his eyes.

I see it like this

When Amare went down with the knee surgery, we went into draft the next season saying we’re drafting him again. We put him on the pedestal as our franchise player. The team straight up said it was his team. Right now, he still is our franchise player. Nash is still here but not for long, same with Hill. The closest player to being the main guy of the franchise is LB. As much as I love him, he’s not THE dude. We put so much into Amare already and it would be completely ridiculous to get rid of him, especially right now.

I think we should give it one more run, Get Tyson Chandler, and ball

I agree 100%. We’re not done and arent ready to blow-up. We took the gamble on Shaq, but it wasnt an “all-in” gamble. We may have folded and took a loss, but we have enough chips to play another hand or two. Amare, Nash, Chandler, Hill, LB sounds like a royal flush to me.

by KnowGood on Jun 30, 2009 4:25 PM MDT reply actions   0 recs

it does

but for some reason Kerr, Sarver, Local Sports Radio; they all think the opposite. They all want Amare gone. On KTAR they even make it sound like the Suns might send Amare to GS w/out Curry or Randolph

Me? Was in Phoenix last year looking at houses in an upscale area and who did I meet. Larry Fitzgerald.

Larry was great, invited me in his house, met his lady, showed me his garage full of toys…. as far a s Amare great guy but The team is hemmoraging cash and will not be signing him.

by Crab Ddribble Cocktail on Jun 30, 2009 4:26 PM MDT reply actions   0 recs

Okay...

Why don’t we just keep Amare…have him and Nash together in the uptempo system…run the Pick ‘n’ Roll. Let’s give it one more year. If it doesn’t work, let Nash and Amare walk next season and then we can rebuild. But as long as Nash is on our team, we are not really rebuilding. I say we make that move for Tyson Chandler. He won’t clog the lane the way Shaq does, so Amare will have room to play face up in the paint. Chandler won’t demand the touches either. He can do the dirty work, and let Amare be the offensive beast he is. Everyone is concerned about his health, but I think taking an injured Shaq in February of 2008 was much much more of a gamble than taking on Chandler at this point.

Also, I say we keep Richardson. He thrives in the uptempo system, he can get to the rim, has a good handle, creates his own shot, and can bust the three. With Shaq gone, we can give him the ball more…I am cool with that. Especially while Amare is on the bench. I don’t think we’re too loaded on the wings…consider how inconsistent Matt Barnes is…and we might not have Grant Hill as healthy as we had him last year. So that gives us Barbosa and Richardson as our reliable guys on the wing…I know you guys all make a big deal about Alando Tucker…but that guy is not NBA starting lineup material. Barbosa does not need to start, keeping him coming off the bench…he’s a perfect 6 man. Dragic and Lopez are only going to get better.

Let’s learn from our mistakes from last year: Too many changes in one year, not enough time to find a groove, let alone compete. Let’s make that move for Chandler and keep it simple…and let Alvin Gentry have a full year of SSOL. If it works, great, it it doesn’t, no problem…everyone walks and we start over. But we might as well give it one more go. No big mid-season trades, no changes in philosophy, lets just run and see where it takes us.

by DaMax85 on Jun 30, 2009 5:33 PM MDT reply actions   0 recs

Agreed

I think we’re still well off enough to compete again. Well enough to win a title? Probably not. But I think if we can show we still have some resiliency this year, 2010-11 could be a great year for us. More movement is just gonna cause more harm than good.

Wanna know why Amare cant go to GSW

Because then we’ll be the old warriors. They’re talking 3-5 players from them coming here, to go along with the 2 we already have (and dont want). Did the warriors win then? No! Will they win here as a different named team? HELL NO!

by KnowGood on Jun 30, 2009 6:06 PM MDT reply actions   0 recs

Also We should look to get

Channing Frye in free agency a pretty good defender thats athletic and can knock down open jumpshots and would be welcomed to Arizona where he played college ball..

Bruce Bowen-a lockdown defender and someone who can knockdown the 3 we havent had a go to defender since we lost Bell and Marion

Shaun Livingston- had a bad injury he’s recovering from but is only 22 and showed signs of being good in the clippers playoff run also will probably only seek the minimum

by Lebrontophx2010 on Jun 30, 2009 8:16 PM MDT reply actions   0 recs

Yes to all three of them. My only concerns are if Bowens can play, as he is getting old, and if our training staff can fix Livingston, and if we didn’t go after him last season why would we go after Livingston now?

Take care of the little things, and the big things will take care of themselves.

by SunDolphin on Jun 30, 2009 9:55 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yes on Frye, No on Bowen, he is going to go back to the s*urs, and I feel so bad for Shaun, That injury was horrible, I still cant watch it to this day.

Amare news

Looks like the Amare deal is dead, two sources said he had little interest in the Bay Area: If that’s true GSW’s out of the hunt:

The other PF we will go after is Bosh next year, with the big bucks:

Can’t figure it out, is it Don Nellie Ball Nelson, or is it all these beautiful vineyards and restaurants, along with all the sail boats in the bay on the warm day ? maybe all the hip villages great music beautifull climate year around?

I just can;t figure it out ;)

Ya what is that going to do with Monta Ellis attitude?

Nelson maybe part of the reason but it’s most likely ’ the culture of losing’ that hangs over your franchise.

This means that you are always living in the future (this guys a future star) not taking a position on how you get competative and following this plan. Most players at the Amare level want the money but hope to win as well so they are not interested in just trying to get into the playoffs.

From all the reports coming out of Toronto Bosh gets pushed around alot and isn’t a team player. I wouldn’t want him. He will probably get an offer from someone closer to a title.

Keep Amare

It is time for the Suns to encourage Amare to come into his own. Steve Kerr and his band of bumbling managers need to stop the backbiting and the sniping by making a commitment to Amare as our top dog.
Combined with Grant Hill, Jason Richardson, Matt Barnes, Steve Nash, Leandra Barbossa, young Lopez and the new draft choice Earl Clark an Amare-led team can be one of the most exciting in the NBA.
This requires a longterm commitment to a rapid fire, fast paced style of play and some real professional athletes. The Suns can overtake Utah and a Dallas franchise struggling with internal issues to grab a play-off berth but we need to stick by our guys on the court and not let Steve Kerr make another series of decimating trades.

by fedres on Jun 30, 2009 11:03 PM MDT reply actions   0 recs

I’m starting to embrace AMARE as the man. Knowing that the Golden State deal was probably the best we can find, and having that apparently fall through the floor, I think we should hold on to him, and if plays lights out like I know he can (if he makes attitude adjustments) we can give him that max….maybe….and if he does as poorly as last season let someone else give him the money he wants/doesn’t deserve. I guess it’s not the end of the world if he walks. We will still have all that new cap room.

I have faith we can get into the playoffs. But to win a championship (or even get to the finals) we need to play defense. Stat needs to play defense. So does Nash. It’s got to be a team effort. Play fast offense, but play defense just as hard.

Take care of the little things, and the big things will take care of themselves.

Right?

Its going to make our four games with Golden State this year actually mean something.

Amar’e is super cool man i was jogging down the middle of Indian School last night(naked and high on PCP of course) and just for fun he screamed something unintelligible at me and hit me in the face with a bottle of beer(super good aim for a guy going 90 on the sidewalk)
