Suns still have a shot...
Folks...I've been reading all the blogs from the past few weeks and must chime in and express my own POV. I definately don't agree with the stupid idea of scrapping the team and starting over. I feel we can be competitive and even have a run as long as we do a few necessary things, such as:
I think keeping Nash, Hill and Amar'e is a must. How else can we be competitive? Now if we want to win and have a shot to advance in the plays, I say let's go out and get Chandler...if his toe can hold up. I mean, if he can play effectively, imagine the possibilities with Nash creating plays and leading the team. Forget about it....it would be exciting basketball....and competitive. Also, I believe we have some of the other pieces already in place. We should definately keep Barbosa...and I'd like to see us keep Richardson and Barnes. Richardson can play well in this up-tempo offense and is a legitamate scoring threat. Not to mention he can shoot the 3-pointer. And, let's not forget he was once the slam-dunk champion of the league. What I'm saying is that he can put up points when his game is on. When it's not, well we have Amar'e, Hill, Nash and hopefully Chandler. I mean, I think this would be a very competitive and potent starting five.
Now the bench with the young guys is pretty good to. Dragic and Lopez showed signs of improvement towards the end of last season. Lopez can play defense, rebound the ball and can pick and roll to the basket. If we get Chandler, that can only help Lopez's game. Dragic reportedly has been hitting the weightroom and is stronger now going into his second season. He also showed signs at the end of last season of perhaps being a Nash protege. Dragic and Lopez should be better this season. We also have Tucker and Dudley who I believe can both help coming off the bench. They just need some playing time. I'm excited to see what rookies Clark and Griffin can do. Especially Clark. I think he will be good at PF giving Amar'e some rest and also developing his game. If we keep Barnes, which I hope we do, he'll give our young second squad some veteran leadership. He too can shoot the 3-ball and can play some defense as well. And, let's not forget the Brazilian Blurr. Barbosa can put up twenty points off the bench just as fast as anyone in the league. I mean he's up there with J.R. Smith and Jason Terry. Oh, and I forgot Amundson. That guys a warrior. He'll play well and be valuable for us off the bench as well. He has shown he can rebound and score off of rebounds as well.
Okay, so our second unit can be competetive and exciting as well. To me, it's simple....keep all the guys I mentioned above....get rid of what's left over, and get Chandler...or another center(possibley Camby) with similar game. I mean guys, if we do all these things....we can be competitve, make a run, and be exciting. This team I mention above is built for speed and scoring. We should definately be the number one scoring team in the league. I mean, we were last season with Amar'e out at the end and the whole bad start with trying to change styles. I mean, we are who we are. Forget defense. If we're outscoring everyone, who care's about defense? The defination of winning is the team that has the most points at the end of the game....DAH. Let's go and kick some.....We can do it!!!!! Hopefully the team's owner and management will feel the same way. That's it from me...hope someone agrees with my humble opinions. I'm looking forward to reading any feedback.....Keep it coming Sun's fans!

I actually agree with you!
Winning a Championship is tough, only one team can do it each season. With our fiscal constraints (and I don’t excuse Sarver, I just empathize with him) we just can’t go out and get an A+ type player to get us over the hump. What we CAN do is compete! Once we’re in the Playoffs, we can give any team out there a good scare, if not beat them outright. Earl Clark could turn out to be The Matrix Reloaded for us, so even if we don’t get a Camby type we can still run teams out of the gym, and that’s all we need to do. That’s Suns Basketball.

Yeah, I agree
I know I’m a little long winded…but yeah, I agree. Let’s keep the team as is and get a center like Chandler or Camby. Actually, Frye might be alright. But I still feel if we really want to compete, it would be good to try to make one more move. Anyway, let’s run everyone out of the gym…Sun’s all the way!

No doubt
I think we have one of those teams that’ll shock you really. Are bench can be downright explosive at times and you know what you’re getting with our starting PG-PF (Center not so much).
Look at these playoff teams from this past season. Not many people outside of Denver knew Birdman Andersen now everyone does. Anyone expect that from Courtney lee in Orlando?
I think we’ll be one of next seasons surprise teams

Not really
Phoenix signed GHill for two more seasons. They’re rumored to be letting go of Barnes, but this might not work out so badly with Dudley, Tucker, or Griffin. The problem with that is you cant keep ‘em all. There’s no solid reasoning behind having 4 SFs on one team. That said they already have young depth to learn from their experienced players. Clark will follow Stoudemire, Dragic will follow Nash. What Phoenix really needs to be a contender is to play two sides of the ball. Its great to average more points than any other team in the league, but if you allow more points than any other team it kind-of defeats the purpose… If they could put up a few more stops they would be champions. WORK ON D NOT ON A STAR STUDDED CAST!
Oh yeah, they signed Channing Frye. Looks like they’re moving away from the whole Chandler trade…
Wallace will probably be retiring, and it looks like Pavs will be staying along as well. That makes 5 SFs, good luck with that.

confusing
it seems like everyones leaving out almunson for clark and robin. lous going to play more minutes than the both of them and may play more than frye when its all said and done. i just dont see fry doing much at the center position he shoots and is soft. at least almunson gets put backs and play D. oh and i agree we have to many sf, not enough guards

What do you mean not really or confusing?
The Suns had an identity before, that was to score and put up points fast. They did very well and were close. What they needed was some size to go along with Amar’e scoring ability. Shaq was good for us, but took too much space. But now, Amar’e’s the only big man on the court and will miss Shaq. Frye is good off the bench to give us depth. I think we should get a legit center that can move, play defense and rebound, or start Lopez at Center and Amar’e at PF. I mentioned Almundson and Clark already. I think Almundson is a warrior and I’m excited to see what Clark can do. I’m excited to see what the Sun’s will do with Alvin Gentry coaching the team the entire season, and a healthy Stoudamire. Also, will Nash and Hill back….and if we keep Richardson….should be potent offense. All we need is a decent center that can move, play defense and rebound.
