Around SBN: VIDEO: Austin Rivers' Buzzer Beater Finishes Off UNC

A little love for (Fropez?)

We need a starting center next year. Chandler for Wallace seems to be off, Amare to the Warriors too. Nash is getting an extension, so he's not getting traded. I haven't heard anything about dealing J-Rich.

While I'm sure the consensus is that Channing Frye will be our starting center, what about Robin Lopez? The case for R-Lo.

a) Defense = solid

b) .7 BLK in 10 MIN = 2.5 in 30 with start?

c) Summer league game 1: 7/10 FG, 10/12 FT, 24 PTS, 16 REB, 2 BLK. Bear in mind, this is not exactly NBA competition, but still a solid line in any scenario.

Looking forward to seeing him at Summer League

Man, it would be nice if RoLo could provide starter minutes at the 5. I’m skeptical though. Gotta see a leap and bound in his basketball IQ.

RoLo

Robin must be our starting center. We don’t have another center on the roster. Amare and Frye are power forwards. They could play center but aren’t centers. From what I hear about Frye he wanders out on the perimiter. Amare can play center but gives up bulk to a lot of the bigger guys and isn’t much of a rebounder or shot blocker.

Robin is capable of rebounding and shot blocking, he must be our center.

Rolo

I’m not sure I’d call Lopez’s D “solid” since he hasn’t proven himself to be a competent rebounder (I don’t think you can separate D from def. rebounding) and he fouls far too much (almost 6 per 36 min). But that said he does have the mobility to defend the pick and roll, does seem to be a potentially decent shot blocker, and is generally athletic enough to keep up with the Suns pace.

So I’ve thought that he was the front-runner to be our starting center, since we KNOW Frye is not a good rebounder and is a mediocre defender. At least, Robin might be better than that. Summer League isn’t much of an indicator though. Otherwise, Marco Bellineli and Jerryd Bayless would be tearing up the NBA.

But Rolo does seem like a better option than Frye but ultimately I think that speaks more to our lack of options than to his readiness. Nonetheless, he is what we’re going with so Go Lopez! You need to be good!

Don't feel bad, Channing. We can't rebound either.
