Phoenix Mercury suspend Diana Taurasi 2 games for DUI
The Mercury announced today that they have suspended Diana Taurasi two games without pay for "conduct detrimental to the team". Diana will miss the Detroit game on Saturday and the Minnesota Lynx game on Wednesday the 22nd.
This is the right move and seems like a fair and consistent response. I am not in Phoenix so I can't really say with any certainty but my guess would be that the team will rally around DT and this will have little impact on the court beyond the two missed games.
On the bright side of the Mercury, ESPN's Nancy Lieberman tweeted that Penny Taylor is going to sign with the Mercury and will play after the all star game. The Mercury play in New York the day after the ASG in New York. The Mercury waives guard Allie Quigley to make room on the roster.

Taurasi can't apologize
For posts calling for Diana Taurasi to apologize, we have to remember that she’s involved in a legal matter. Like any US citizen, she has the right to mount a defense. Like any sane person accused of a crime (a class 1 misdemeanor in this case, not a felony as some people are saying), she undoubtedly hired the best lawyer she could find and afford. And that lawyer will have to approve everything she says. Her lawyer might even write out a script for her comments.
If any of us got cited and accused of a criminal act, we’d do the same thing, whether we were innocent or guilty. And despite the police reports, Diana is not guilty until the final judgment gets made by a judge and/or jury. We must safeguard everyone’s rights or we are all in jeopardy.
