Around SBN: Jeremy Lin Continues Rampage, New York Wins On Road

Nash and Richardson for...

Let me start out by stating that I'm a big Steve Nash fan. I also think the team as it's presently built can make some noise in the playoffs. But it's not going to win it all. So...with that said and with Boston trying to move Rondo earlier...how about....

Nash and Richardson

for

Rondo and Allen

The Celts would be a much better team w/Nash this year and possibly next year, whch is what they are looking for. Could you imagine Nash, Richardson, Pierce, Garnett, and Wallace all in the same lineup?

The Suns would still have two veterans this year (Allen and Hill) and do reasonably well. This is Allen's last year so we could let him walk after the season. We'd have dumped Richardson's contract and we'd have our new starting PG. Sarver would love it b/c he could lower payroll by $5 mil this year and a whole bunch more next season (the Celts would have to throw in another small salary....like $200K).

2010 Starting Lineup for the Suns

Rondo

Barbosa

Clark

Amare

Lopez

Talk about cap flexibility and a great young starting 5 (plus Lou, Dragic, Dudley, Frye, etc).

What do you think?

BTW....

I wouldn’t be upset if Kerr read this and stole my idea :-)

I’d do it in a minute

Won't happen

In order to move Rondo, Ainge certainly requires some future talent in the trade. They are looking to win one/two more titles, but they aren’t that crazy to trade their best young for more old guys.

Not true

I don’t agree. Ainge and the Celts are in the ‘win it now’ mind frame.

Consider this...

How about team chemistry? Identity? Come on guys, let’s give the run and gun system on more try with Nash at the helm. I’ve got a good feeling about this season. Especially since Hill turned down the money and championship possibility to play here. That’s a good sign. These guys really want to play here. I’m telling you, with a healthy Amar’e Stoudamire set to have a monster season, Hill as productive as last year, Richardson and Nash scoring 30-40 points or more between them, Lopez and Frye averaging 20 pts or more and 12-16 rebounds or more between them, and a solid bench led by Barbosa, we’ll be alright this season. Better than alright. Let’s give these guys a chance!

So, if we hypothetically could do this ...

You would rather us take a chance on a nice hunch and keep an aging team with the potential of a mid-level playoff team, over a newly created team with most of the said major pieces, an upgrade in youth and versatility at point, and a proven, if aging player at sg. Not only would this maintain, and probably improve our chances now, it would also give us a much brighter future. Both Rondo and Allen can play fast or slow, in fact Rondo EXCELS in chaotic fast-paced games – his physical game aids him in transition, where he does not have to shoot as many jumpers. We would still be able to run, and with Allen basically a push with regards to Richardson, we would have a very versatile and dangerous team. Additionally, it would save us (as said in the post) a good chunk of money. Finally, it might give Nash, who is the most deserving player outside of Grant Hill that you can find to win a championship, a legitimate shot at a ring.
All of that said, there would be no way that Boston would do it, unless the whole Celtics organization collectively incurred major brain damage.

+1

couldn’t have said it better. I love Nash, but rondo is solid and he and stat would be a star duo for years to come…..don’t see ainge doin it though-but i wish he would

Identity

Galvara, Our identity would be as an up and coming, running team that could actually now play defense. Up and coming = young

Sounds good

Nash is great but ripe old man now. Rondo is a triple double machine or close to it. Yes a bit of a headcase, but we’d be giving up a headcase too.

I’d do it, Kerr won’t.

Oh yeah,

because I’m sure that the front offices of other teams in the NBA would just bow down to you and your ridiculously one-sided trade proposals…

by Silkster on Jul 17, 2009 4:09 PM MDT up reply actions

No...because...

You have the understand the mind set of the organizations. Boston is in the “win it now” mind set. They are one year removed from a championship and are looking to repeat before the opportunity passes. Does Rondo today (not yet in his prime) or Nash give them a better chance. I’d say it’s Nash. They would be acquiring a 2 time MVP with awesome distribution skills to match with their already allstar cast. They would become the instant favorite to win it all again.

For the Suns, as many have agreed, it’s a no brainer :-)

I think Kerr would...

I’m not sure if they’ve considered this particular deal, but I would think Kerr would be all for it. It would #1 put his stamp on the organization (he’d have revamped an older team to a younger one in 2 seasons). #2 It would save Sarver money…

by Sc413 on Jul 17, 2009 7:24 PM MDT up reply actions

Sad

What’s sad is we could have rondo on our roster already but sold our draft pick that year.

by eagleheart on Jul 18, 2009 3:57 AM MDT reply actions

I agree

That does suck…but there’s lot of people that could have had Jordan, Kobe, etc through the draft

by Sc413 on Jul 19, 2009 12:26 PM MDT up reply actions

Nash to the Celtics?

The Celtics play slow, defense oriented ball. Nash plays quick, not-defense-oriented ball. Nash would not work the Celtics’ system well. That said, anything we can do to pry Rondo would be welcome.

When fictionally asked to comment on the state of the Phoenix Suns, GM Steve Kerr said, "Arizona."

by hookedonphoenix on Jul 18, 2009 7:43 PM MDT reply actions

This sounds like

your a Celtics fan. That trade is somewhat fair if you throw in a 1 round draft pick or two from Boston, but only cause of age. Basically you have given up contending the next 2 or 3 years with this trade. We arent there yet. While we are at it throw in Stat for ’Sheed. This is dumb and even worse that some of you even think its a good deal. They have a site for Celtics fans. Are you all that desperate because your window closed just as fast as it opened? Dont think we are as desperate as you are. I personally think we have the best of both worlds. We have the talent to contend now as well as some very good young pieces in place for the future. When you really break it down, we get one upgrade where BOS gets two. And our upgrade only upgrades our second unit. Rondo isnt close to Nash. Allen is washed up. Richardson is not. Richardson can still dunk on anyone and has a good 3-5 years left. So this is giving you a championship and making yet another dumb trade that backfires. While I cant say we dont do that, even this we wouldnt do. I threw up in my mouth when I read the original post and then saw that some of you idiots even agreed with it.

by NSU Stud on Jul 19, 2009 1:59 AM MDT reply actions

Are you kidding?
  1. 1 Richardson’s contract is horrible…Allen’s is only for one year.
  1. 2 Also, while I think Nash is great, he’s near the end of his career. Rondo hasn’t reached his prime.

As someone said earlier, we’d be giving Nash the chance to win a title and we’d all the sudden have one of the league’s youngest and most exciting teams as of 2010.

by Sc413 on Jul 19, 2009 12:32 PM MDT up reply actions

J Rich>Allen

Nash>Rondo…..we already will have a good young team when Nash and Hill are done….And we could get the same out of Barbosa that we would get out of Rondo….Meaning erratic play sprinkled with good moments….Go blow smoke up someone else’s skirt….You just want that window to open back up and you know ’Sheed aint going to do it…Dont think for a second you have a chance this year….Crazy as it may sound our Suns still have a better shot than your Celtics….Be happy….Ainge was a genius for a year…

by NSU Stud on Jul 20, 2009 12:32 PM MDT reply actions

Dont get me wrong

I wouldnt mind acquiring Rondo somehow but not by giving up Nash….If he is so promising why is BOS shopping him so much….And I even like the guy, I liked him even better when WE drafted him in the first place….But he isnt anywhere close to worth giving up Nash…..and Allen isnt worth giving up J Rich….Who do you think this team will run through when Nash retires a Sun? If Stat stays, it will be him and Richardson’s team along with our young talent….I’m sorry your Celtics havent built thier bench in thier haste to win a title but thats the sacrifice you make to win now…..like i said as much as kerr has been an idiot he has actually put together a team built for both now and the future….
