He's very tradable

but it would cost the Suns a lot of money. Right now, he’s under contract for $4.75m but only $1.5m is guaranteed so if they waive him they only pay the $1.5 which is a savings of $3.25m in salary + and equal amount in lux tax so you are talking about $6.5m in savings.

Williams is only making $1.6m so the trade doesn’t really work. Where is works well is a guy making up to about $6m on a team that is seriously looking to dump salary and otherwise wouldn’t want to move a guy. New Orleans for example would love to trade Mo Pete or Antonio Daniels (both at about $6m) for Sasha but we wouldn’t want those guys.

Now, one the other hand look at the Wizards who are over the lux tax and don’t want to be. They have two bigs I would be interested in Blatche at $3m and Haywood at $6m, Haywood is expiring while Andre has about $9m owed over the next three years.

Lets say the Suns trade Sasha for Haywood (I would prefer Blatche but whatever). Suddenly the Suns add about $4m in extra salary which costs them $8m w/ the tax.

With Blathe costs $3m total but they have him on the books for two more years. Now I like Andre Blatche and think he’s a good fit on the Suns so I would love that move. I am not sure the Wiz would do it without some other sweetner but maybe….If I were GM that’s a call I would make

I honestly think we can get Williams without having to give up much..I say we put Pavlovic Richardson and see what we could get out of it

Marc Stein of ESPN...

said that there could be a deal involving Utah’s Boozer and Phoenix b/c we have the Pavlovic contract. Utah is looking to cut payroll.

we wouldn't get boozer

pavlovic would go to the Jazz, but Boozer would go to team #3, and we would players from team #3.

Teams to trade with

I think this is an interesting idea. But what you’d need here is a third team that is
(a) well under the salary cap,
(b) willing to do business, and
© has players the suns and Jazz would want.

IMHO, the teams that fill that bill most are Sacramento and Washington. Here’s two ideas that work, according to the trade machine:

Utah: trades Boozer, gets Pavlovic, DeShaun Stevenson and Javaris Crittenton
Phoenix: trades Pavlovic, gets Andray Blatche and Nick Young
Washington: trades Stevenson, Crittenton, Blatche and Young, gets Boozer

Utah: trades Boozer, gets Pavlovic, Nocioni
Phoenix: trades Pavlovic, gets Garcia
Sacramento: trades Nocioni, Garcia, gets Boozer

Of the two, I’d actually prefer dealing with Sacramento … I really like Garcia. One thing we have to remember though is that Pavlovic has to be dealt alone — we can’t package him with another player.

Interesting Scenarios

Interesting scenarios, I hope Kerr can match one of those trades. If he can then the trade of Shaq for scraps would be somewhat worthwhile.

Let's Get Boozer or Bosh

Let’s look at using Lopez, Tucker and Sasha as pieces in a trade that will bring at least one very strong player onboard the Suns. I’m a big Boozer fan – not as strong as I am for Amare – and Carlos Boozer would be a valuable addition to the roster that’s shaping up (Amare, Frye, Hill, Nash, J-Rich)
if we’re looking at defensive toughness and offensive efficiency, I can see Boozer doing some duty as a center with Frye starting in that role. And then plugging Carlos in at forward as well.
But if we really want to get creative – could the Suns package Lopez, Tucker, Wallace and Sasha together and make a deal with Toronto for Chris Bosh?
What do you think?

by fedres on Jul 19, 2009 1:22 PM MDT reply actions

If we can get Chris Bosh, I’m all for it. In fact I wish bryan colangelo would just take a straight up Amare for Bosh trade, but we would have to see how Amare looks this season when he comes back. Is Sasha Pavlovic any good? Is he worth keeping on the team?

by Rishmo on Jul 19, 2009 3:15 PM MDT up reply actions

No way Toronto

Trades Chris Bosh for our garbage. Besides, Wallace is already bought out … no longer a Sun.

by jburning on Jul 19, 2009 4:39 PM MDT up reply actions

Why would Toronto want “Lopez, Tucker, Wallace and Sasha together” for their team? If this trade happens then clearly Bryan Colangelo would be called out as someone who has the Suns best interest at heart and not his own team. Beside we wouldn’t have a bench at all to speak of if we traded all those players…

How about Pavlovic plus

combination of any of Lopez/Dudley/ Amundson/ Tucker to Jazz; Boozer to NY; Lee to Phoenix ???

NY gets a 2010 expiring contract who’s also a star and possible extension for the “lebron era” theyre dreaming of. Utah gets some savings now w/ pavlovic and 2010 ending contracts of Lopez et al. Plus Lopez or Duds or Lou are also serviceable players who work hard – which Sloan likes. Phoenix gets David Lee – a rebounding big man who wont compete with Amare for ball possesions.

can't be done

Pavlovic cannot be packaged with any other player. And any deal that includes him cannot become final for another 5 weeks (Aug 25).

by blazar on Jul 20, 2009 1:18 PM MDT up reply actions

Aug 25

After that date can he be packaged with another dude?

by eagleheart on Jul 21, 2009 5:05 AM MDT up reply actions

Suns save $3.25 million if they waive Pavlovic.

Nash, Barbosa
J-Rich, Dragic, Tucker
Hill ($3 million), Clark, Dudley
Amare, Amundson
Lopez, Frye ($2 million)

That’s 12 players after Wallace’s $10 million buyout @ $74,519,006.

Not Lopez -Ugh!

The notion that Lopez is anywhere near servicable as an NBA center – let alone as a starter – is not anywhere close to realistic. Did you see him during the first half of the Summer League game against the Clippers? He had absolutely no presence on the court, showed no leadership and only minimal skills.Sadly that has been the story of his pro career.
Let’s move Mr.Lopez out and get someone valuable who knows how to play the game at an NBA level.

by fedres on Jul 19, 2009 9:53 PM MDT reply actions

There isn't much choice...

Frye could beat out Lopez for the starting C position but it’d only be a matter of time before he gets injured or goes through a playing slump…

The Suns could play Amare at the 5 and have either Amundson or Clark starting at PF.

I doubt the Suns can trade for a servicable C. They don’t really have the pieces to land someone worthwhile.

Valuable Contract

Kerr’s said how valuable Pav’s contract is.

He’s also said he doesn’t want to leave Sasha hanging all Summer in limbo so that he can’t get another job.
