Ben Wallace: What's up?

Ben Wallace:  Phoenix Sun?

Star-divide

It's been dead silent quiet on the Ben Wallace front since he was traded to the Suns.   I haven't seen anything about him even coming by the valley.

Was there a press conference introducing him? Yes, we've heard the rumors that he may retire even prior to the trade (this is what probably led the Banker to trade for him to begin with).   But since he's become a Phoenix Sun, at least in name, we haven't heard a peep from him or his camp.

Usually in these situations, they say "yeah it's great to be here" speech B.S. even if you know he's going to be gone.  Steve Kerr said anything about this?   Has he said what the heck he's planning on doing?

Basically, has any real indications been given by the Suns or the Wallace camp on what the heck he's going to be doing next year?

Actually...

If our trainers (I have to admit that I’m starting to take them for granted) can get Big Ben back to something like 65-70% DPOY Big Ben, I totally wouldn’t mind if he’s playing for the Suns.

Among all the centres who have played for us in the recent years, the one who worked best with Amar’e was Kurt Thomas, ‘cause he doesn’t demand the ball, is mobile, and plays good/smart defense.

Wallace can’t hit the open 18 footers like Kurt, but he’s a good leader who can chew into Amar’e’s ass when he has his lapses.

And while we might be able to flip Big Ben for Tyson Chandler, if we can actually get him to play (I’m looking at you again, Suns trainers), he may even have some trade value. It’s not like Fropez is ready to play 40mins a night anyways.

So yeah, I think we should have welcomed Wallace in open arms and play it like we intend to play him, since that may actually be a good thing. I guess it’s a little too late now.

With the 14th pick of the 2009 NBA draft, the Pheonix Suns select... 3 million dollars!

Well..

My thinking is a lot probably has to do with Amare. For example, if he’s traded for multiple players, like in the proposed GS trade, then the Suns probably try to buy out Wallace to keep the roster down to 13.

However, is Amare stays for now, then maybe Kerr tries to flip Wallace to NOLA for Chandler to play alongside Amare.

Of course, there’s a chance that neither of these happen, in which case we could do a lot worse than have Wallace on the bench, so maybe they should have made at least some attempt to introduce the guy etc and make him feel like he could have a bit of a future should he want it.

I felt though last week that the Shaq trade wouldn’t have happened though unless they knew ahead of time what Wallace’s intentions were – eg if he was thinking about retiring and was prepared to accept a reduced buy out. But still.
