The Suns are well and truly on their way back to ludicrous speed basketball.

This suns roster doesn’t look like playoff material on appearance but it could play out differently. Though Kerr has acknowledged that the Suns are in a transitional stage.

It was interesting to read the Suns are one of the more profitable teams in the league even though they paid luxury tax last season. I see this extension more as a business move than a basketball one. Keep the fan favorite in order to keep the tickets selling.

In all honesty

Us, you guys, the thunder and maybe the clippers if baron decides to show up will all be fighting for the last spot.

in all honesty...

i have to respectfully disagree.

if baron davis is healthy, i think the clips have a shot at making the last seed. i think the suns have the potential to be somewhere in the 5-7 range. i think the warriors miiight have a shot at the last seed. but, i foresee curry struggling mightily in the NBA until he figures out how to handle bigger, tougher defenders. randolph will be good this coming year (or so you can only hope). the thunder won’t make the playoffs this year. i think they’re aiming for 2010-2011, anyway.

who do you envision in spots 1-7?

Nash is an amazing offensive player. He just can’t defend NBA players. It’s so frustrating. I’m going to start calling him Catch 22.

I respectfully disagree

I think it’s a solid playoff team – a fact that’s probably helped by the fact that Utah, Houston and maybe New Orleans are going to be taking a step back. Full season of Gentry and of course contingent on Nash-Amare staying healthy – and they could probably do as well as the 5th seed. I do agree that there is a certain business element to it, but he can certainly help “raise” (for lack of a better term) the young players on the squad.

On one hand the Suns would like to keep Nash because of his popularity as it would help their gate takings.

On the other the Suns are in Kerr’s own words “in transition”.

The Suns are also well over luxury tax even after Big Ben’s buyout and if they waive Pavlovic.

It doesn’t seem to make much sense. If they’re a team in transition. Why are they spending? Especially when they’ve got an owner who has made so many moves in the past based on financial reasons?

All the contending teams have loaded up and I doubt the remaining ones would want to eat into their 2010 cap space just for J-Rich.

Could Nash be dealt? Is this extension about giving the Suns leverage in trade talks they did not have previously have?

it’s a lot easier to pay luxury tax if you have some home playoff games for revenue. without Nash there’s no way we make the playoffs.

Plus, being slightly over the luxury tax isn’t that bad, seeing as this year the reimbursement almost covered the cost….
