Trade possibilities: Richardson for Redd

As I looked over other trades that would possibly make the Suns a better team I realized that Jason Richardson's contract paired with the partially guaranteed contract of Sasha Pavlovic would be a trade commodity that would allow us to get someone of a high caliber someone like Michael Redd.

No he's not a great defensive presence but neither is Richardson and we get in return a consistent scorer and gain a player who gives us a big three again. Save for last year he has been quite healthy playing no less than 53 games every year not including his rookie season. If the Suns want to invest in their future or want to try to compete as Dallas, San Antonio, and Los Angeles have done they could also add in a piece they've missed since they traded him for almost literally nothing Mr. Kurt Thomas.

Now the first thing to remember is that the Bucks are looking to lower their payroll and what a perfect way to do it allow me to explain.

Suns get-

Michael Redd- 2yr- $17,040,000

Kurt Thomas- 1yr- $3,800,000

Bucks get-

Jason Richardson- 2-yr $13,333,334

Sasha Pavlovic- 1-yr $4,946,250

Alando Tucker- 1-yr $1,071,720

Now in order for the Bucks to take the bait they would have to save a substantial amount, this deal would help them do just that, their payroll stands at $71M and change if this deal were to go through there payroll would drop to about $66M assuming they buyout Pavlovic. The Suns have a payroll of roughly $71M if this deal is done they would have a payroll of $73M and change raising the payroll up from what could have been $69M with the buyout of Pavlovic. I think it would be quite worth it for this to happen they could start either Frye or Thomas at the C position and designate Thomas as the defensive big man. This deal couldn't happen until mid August when both Pavlovic and Thomas will be allowed to be traded with other players but a nice thought in my mind.

Pavolivic can't be packaged with another guy

Supposedly Pavlovic can’t be packaged with another contract. If anyone knows for sure pipe up.

True

He cannot be packaged with another player until mid aug which is what the past says.

only

if you add dudley and some cash considerations we can get back Redd and the rights to Session or he can sign with us then i am all for that.
payroll we be like $77m but with the 8% players give back in their wage it will be down to $72m and the teams escrow payment there will only like a few hundredthousand to pay for in tax.

than again i might be wrong.

i still think sessions should be our point guard when nash retires and dragic be sessions backup

THAT would be a very un Sarver like move

I was thinking this exact thing, but I was saying sign him as a restricted, or trade pavlovic for the rights or something, but not renew Nash. There is no way we have potential and two guards that the team wants to play behind Nash for 3 years.

BTW

Lol at getting back Kurt Thomas. Maybe we’ll cut him again and he’ll sign with the Spurs again and help beat us in the playoffs if we make the playoffs.

Lol, tragic irony

That’s likely to be a realistic scenario =(

http://themeanderingtruth.evony.com/ ve watched, loved, and rooted for the Suns for half my life! I hate smug and hypocritical Laker fans.

We're fine as is...

What we need is a solid center. I don’t know if Lopez is ready to start, and am hoping Frye will be able to give us solid play and minutes. He was a star at Arizona, and has great attitude and work ethic. So, we may be alright at the 5 spot. Maybe we should pick up another low cost big guy to come off bench just to give us some more depth at center.
Anyway, I like Richardson and think we should give this team one more season to play together. He’s a high energy player and can put up points fast when he’s on his game. Plus, with Nash feeding him the ball, Hill keeping defenders honest with his perimeter shooting, and Stoudamire back with something to prove, I think this will be a potent team capable of putting up points on anyone. My only concern is the 5-spot and us getting killed at the boards. Hopefully, Amar’e will rebound this year and Frye/Lopez will be okay to.

Here’s to sticking with what we got.

They're trying to take my tortillas!

The point is

They already tampered with the team so much why not make this trade happen. The numbers in this post are as accurate as they could be from espn and az republic sources.

Redd's shooting percentages have dropped steadily

And he’s paid more than Richardson, who is more athletic, younger, and somehow a better defender when you look at their DRTNG stats.

Steve Nash, the league's MVP, is a longhaired Canadian who spoke out against the war in Iraq and reads The Communist Manifesto. Quentin Richardson declared after a game-winning shot that it "was like Hamlet. It was a suspense thriller, and I killed them at the end." Amare Stoudemire, when asked to comment on a 22-point third quarter against the Kings, said, "I've got a tendency to jump over some guys' heads and throw it down."

The problem with that trade is only age. Thomas is very old, and I thin, Redd is somewhat old.

AND..

You have to remember that every dollar over the luxury tax line is doubled. By taking on $2 million, the Suns actually pay $4 million ($2M in salary, $2M in tax). I don’t think Redd is worth it.

Plus...

Redd was injured last year with torn ligaments or something. I wouldn’t want to take any chances with a player coming back an injury year. Richardson is younger and healthy as far as I know.

JJ

JJ ain’t coming back. Why would he come back here after he soured on us the first time?

Are you aware of the two year salary dispute with $arver that led JJ to be so fed up and sign with the lowly (at the time) Atlanta Hawks? He made it very clear he was done with the Suns at the time.

As for now, yes we’re more attractive than the Clippers, Twolves and Grizzlies. But there are a lot of other teams JJ can go to.

by eagleheart on Jul 22, 2009 2:00 PM MDT up reply actions

Yea i know but he also said he had a lot of love for Phx..will he come back you’re right prolly not but I cant think a shooting guard thats young that fits our system better

by Lebrontophx2010 on Jul 22, 2009 7:30 PM MDT up reply actions

Maybe it's just me

but I don’t like Micheal Redd at all. Terrible, TERRIBLE defender. And he can’t stay healthy to save his life. When was the last time he had a good season?

I wouldn’t trade JRich for him straight up, let alone paying all that extra cash. It’s arguable that even LB is a better player than Micheal Redd at this point.

We really can’t further downgrade our defense at the 2, given who our PG is…
