Tyson Chandler to be Traded
According to SI.com, the Hornets are about to complete a deal to send Tyson Chandler to the Bobcats for Emeka Okafor. I'm sure this will be pending exams for both players, which is a sure thing for Okafor but not necessarily for Chandler. I guess I have two questions:
(1) Is this a deal we should have made ourselves (i.e., trading, instead of buying out Ben Wallace)? Or was the decision as made correct? I'm split on this one.
(2) Who really is getting the best of this deal? Frankly, here I think there's little doubt: the Hornets are getting by far the better end of the bargain, regardless of whether Chandler is fully recovered or not. Okafor is a better center than a fully healthy Chandler has ever been. And frankly, if this deal was being discussed a month ago, then I really doubt the veracity of all the rumors that were flying around then.

I was eager to get Tyson Chandler, and sorry it didn’t happen.

I wanted Tyson Chandler too but from what I was reading that foot was pretty messed up..I thought we should of went after Marcus Camby can do a lot of the same things as Chandler(not as much dunking) and is a expiring contract…

Chandler's toe
allows for some pause here. As highly as I think of Chandler, being that he would be an almost perfect fit in PHX given his skill-set (specifically being both mobile and a good PnR defender who doesn’t need the ball consistently to contribute to the flow of the game), I wonder exactly how healthy he is. For example, a 7 footer is dependent on their toes, and as we’ve seen with Yao, foot injuries can be deletrious to a center’s career.
As much as I may hate to admit it, I think that the Suns brain trust did the right thing here in going after Frye and not Chandler (yes, i even threw up a little in my mouth when I typed that)

Chandler had 1 good year
And that is mostly due to the fact that he played in a good system in NH with one of the best point guards in the league. Now that he is injured, I don’t think he is worth the risk/investment.

On another note...
Why didn’t we try trading Wallace for Emeka?

We need some muscle...
We already have tall, athletic, lanky guys with Amar’e/Lopez/Frye. Another 7 footer is not a necessity. We made the playoffs and did fairly well a few years ago with Amar’e playing center. What we need is some muscle to solidify the front court. Perhaps we should’ve kept Wallace instead of buying him out? Anyway, I understand the business decision. If we could get a fairly inexpensive big guy, then let’s go for it. Otherwise, we’re alright with what we have. I think this will be an athletic team and will put up lots of points. We’ll give up points as well, but as long as our key players stay healthy and play well, we should be very competitive as is and maybe even suprise some people in the playoffs.

Yeah…I think Steve Nash is underestimating this group. It’s not lottery-bound; it’s a question mark.

Another dumb move most likely orchestrated by Michael Jordan.

Lateral move for both teams
And neither will make much of a difference.
My question is: How does trading Chandler for a player making more money help the cost-cutting Hornets?? I mean, Jeff Bower was ready to trade Chandler for scrap to OKC, then there was all this talk of Chandler for scrap from PHX (Wallace/Pav), but then he eventually trades for someone making MORE PER YEAR FOR MORE YEARS? What the hell is going on in OKC???? Does anyone else see this as insane? Did George Shinn win a few hundred million in the lottery that I didn’t hear abotu??

Guess
It seems they thinks Okafor is going to flourish in New Orleans.
