J-Rich for AK47 trade proposal Redux
Editor's Note: I made the title of this post a little more informative, and note that this has been an ongoing discussion. Check out this post as well for more comments. - ZF

Sometimes you have to make a bold move to make your team better even if you have to pay a bit more for it.
My trade proposal is this. We trade Jason Richardson to Utah along with Pavlovic for Andrei Kirilenko and Either Eric Maynor or Kostas Koufos.
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=lauoxm
Why Phoenix should do it.
A) We get a super athletic wingman who in our system can play the 4. He can guard anyone from Lebron and Bryant to Garnett and Nowitzki succesfully. He is a block shooter and can run with anyone.
B) Eric Maynor seems to be a poised player that could blossom behind Nash and Kostas Koufos is a solid Center that will get better in his second year(He's looking real good with the Greek National team this Month). Both help in the rotation. And they are young!!
C) Barbosa gets to start. Maybe the most important reason to do this trade.
Why Utah does it.
A) They get rid of Kirilenko's pretty big contract and with Pavlovic they get to save some more money.
B) Jason Richardson will be a huge improvement at the Sg Position and although everyone will say that he is not a Jerry Sloan Type of player,i believe Coach Sloan can implement him well in his old reliable system.
Why they don't do it.
Although Utah is need of financial relief they may like Kirilenko too much do this type of trade that doesn't give them back a larger expiring contract. Also They are pretty high on their Young guys esspecially Maynor who they believe was a steal that late in the Draft. Let's not forget the JRich is not a Sloan type player...
For the Suns it's also a money thing. The Front office will basically see this as getting ride of one big contract for an even bigger one. Basically adding 3 millions + 3 millions in tax.
Basically the Suns get an intangibles guy that does a lot of the dirty work and can really play DEFENSE.
Looking forward to your ideas guys. If my trade needs some tweaking it would great to hear about it.
P.S I Believe that Utah is getting a bit more in salary cap relief with this deal so maybe we should try and get their first round draft pick for next year as well : ).

One reason why this would never happen and you hit the nail right on the head:
“JRich is not a Sloan type player.”

YES!
Ive been pushing a j-rich for AK trade since the end of the season! He is crazy good put is being marginalized by a very controlled offense as well as being pushed to an unnatural position of a small forward.

Utah would not do this.
Great deal for you, but they want someone who can creat there own offense. ask them at slc dunk though
Rookie: "Why did you bench me?"
Nellie: "Your a rookie"

VERY good idea.
Some of the Suns (particularly the dads) may not have liked the way J-Rich does his personal life. Made 4 limitations in the chemistry of the team. LB has VERY GOOD chemistry with Nash. Last year, LB suffered his mom’s loss. That was very hard. LB missed a good part of the year, between that loss and later getting hurt. This year, he is a new dad. They (LB and his girl friend) have a baby girl. If we only show our support by starting him, he will make us winners this year. Remember how he took the MVP of the FIBA Americas tourney over such players as Luis Scola (who I would love 2c on the Suns) and Manu.
What if we did make a pass at Luis? What if we brought another team into either trade that would value a J-Rich? What about a losing team like the Grizzlies, Hornets, T-Wolves or Nets? They may have cap space 2 burn. Jazz would love to get Love. Even Raja Bell could find a home in Utah. Jazz would love 2 get the right Lopez twin. Most we should look 2 get back would b 2 players. Your trade is lopsided and would mean expanding our roster which, in turn, expands our overhead. But if we give up either of the other brothers and take back less (only AK and Eric), our cost will have come down. Will make this an economical deal.. They like Maynor so we may have 2 toss in a future draft pick. Sarver will save the salary of the future pick. He will like that. AK will help STAT. We won’t need so many picks with a VERY young, smart, and athletic team..

I think this is an interesting trade suggestion
JRich isn’t a Sloan player? AK47 DEFINITELY isn’t a Sloan player. Sloan doesn’t respect eurowussies that he can make cry.
Anything bad you can say about JRich, you can say 2x about AK. JRich’s contract is bad? AK’s is worse. AK’s teammates rip on his work ethic. Anyone rip on J-Rich’s work ethic? Nope. AK complains about shots as much as Shawn Marion. Does JRich complain about shots? Nope. AK cries like a baby. No one has ever ripped on J-Rich for being soft. JRich has off-court problems? AK’s wife is a bit too progressive for Utah. Plus there’s photos.
J Rich step in and immediately provide them with the three point threat they’ve been sadly depending on Kyle Korver for.
The Jazz would love to ease their current financial burdens, even if it means taking a phat contract back for 1 extra year, because they wouldn’t necessarily have to go over the tax in that extra year.
I’m intrigued by AK because he is a scrappy defender like Marion that we miss. I wish he could also be more like Boris Diaw offensively rather than just a awful jump shooter. We need some front court help and to free up the SG spot.
AK for J Rich is a trade heavily in Utah’s favor, so it would come down to the other pieces to make this trade worthwhile. Not sure what they would be willing to part with. I’m interested in what Utah fans think.
Who are these guys again?

also, here's why AK should come here...
his wife gives him a “one per year” allowance.
all’s i’m sayin’ is…arizona > utah, in that regard.

Like the team we have.
Don’t need new problems.
Just that we have a 2 and 3 glut. What about the Nets? J-Rich plus Griffen 4 the other Lopez twin? Plus a back up point. Plus a future pick? Back 2 the Hornets along with our twin 4 Augustin plus 3-D (Diaw) back? What about the Bucks 4 Sessions plus get Kurt (#40) back plus a 1st round pick? What about the T-Wolves 4 Flynn plus Love plus a future pick? Got another idea?
MUST start LB. Let’s go Suns!!!!
by BCrayZ on Aug 27, 2009 11:57 PM MDT reply actions 0 recs
jrich and griffin for lopez won't work.
lopez is on a rookie contract, and you have to make the numbers work somehow. and the nets won’t give up their extremely promising young center.

also, it's back to the bobcats.
just had to point that out, ha.

What about Bobcats?
Bucks 2 get Kurt (#40) back?
Got another idea?
MUST start LB at the very least as an experiment. What if it continues 2 work? Give it a shot. Let’s go SUNS!!!!

When (I hope) we actually give starting LB a shot, whether or not it is as successful as it has been in the past, I will give up this crusade.
Lots of wins should ensue.
This is what I’m shooting 4: LOTS OF WINS.
Then, you won’t have 2 read it from me any more. Until then…MUST start LB. Let’s go SUNS!!!!

Very nice of you and Stan.
Unfortunately, when it comes to joining the 21st century in I.T. stuff, I’m very dumb and I’m more than likely to trip over my own feet.
Just know how 2 play the hoop game.

jason richardsons trouble with the law is killing his trade value
by Lebrontophx2010 on Aug 28, 2009 11:17 PM MDT reply actions 0 recs
I dont think so - it's the fact that he has a franchise player contract and he's only a solid starter.
despite his run-ins with the law, no one says he’s a knucklehead or that he doesn’t play hard and take care of himself on or off the court.
Stop blamin' Sarver/Kerr/Shaq/Amare/Stern for a bit. It gets old =D

Hello. I almost feel no need to say this, because most people probably realize it. Of course getting Kirilenko for Richardson would be great. But Utah would of course be stupid to make the trade. Does anyone remember Al McCoy and his partner saying that you usually don’t trade a big for a small? (I think it was in 2003, when in preseason the Suns traded Brevin Knight to Washington for center Jahidi White. I wonder why White didn’t stick.)
We would be absolutely playing the Jazz for suckers.
Also, there is little room in the Suns’ frontcourt for Kirilenko. He can’t steal Amare Stoudemire’s position, and isn’t really a center, so that leaves small forward. Grant Hill doesn’t deserve to be benched.

Check out Zona’s post above, AK is not what everybody makes him out to be.

Sorry, I didn’t look up that far. Okay, so getting Andrei Kirilenko would not clearly be a steal. (I knew he was oversensitive, but I had no idea Jerry Sloan made him cry. Pathetic.)
I still don’t think we would be on the losing side, because a tall forward who can play good defense is harder to find than a 6’5" (6’6"?) gunner who can play defense if he feels like it.
Ehh. This is all hypothetical to me, anyway, because I don’t suppose Jerry Sloan likes Andrei Kirilenko, but there is no reason to think he would like Jason Richardson any better. As has been observed, Richardson is not a Jerry Sloan player. He’s a classic run-n-gun Suns player.
He would have fit like a glove, in particular, on the 2004-05 team. He shares more than a surname with Quentin Richardson; Jason is like a superior and higher-paid version of Quentin.

I don't understand this "Richardson is not a Sloan player" bit
I think J Rich is tough enough and smart enough to succeed in Sloan’s system. J Rich is a decent upgrade over Kyle Korver.
Next you’ll try and tell me Jeff Hornacek wasn’t a Sloan player, because he was a run-and-gun Sun.

I have the impression Jerry Sloan, my favorite coach (for being the best at getting something from nothing), has little use for gunners unless they play defense and do as they’re told. Of course Jason Richardson would be an upgrade over Kyle Korver, if an awfully expensive one. Hey, if Jerry Sloan and whoever the Jazz GM is could be suckered into trading a high-strung tall forward who plays defense for a shooting guard who takes a lot of shots and is not a good defender, I would be all for this, okay? I’d be delighted if Andrei Kirilenko were a Sun.
And no, I hadn’t planned to say anything about Jeff Hornacek. I might mention that he’s my all-time favorite player, but that has nothing to do with this. Because I became a fan a season after he left, I have no idea whether his Suns teams were run-and-gun, only that they they scored a lot (which makes it unlikely that they played a slow game).
by lonesomepoint on Aug 29, 2009 7:56 PM MDT up reply actions 0 recs
P.S.
Although Jeff Hornacek remains my favorite player, he had the worst NBA nickname I’ve ever heard.

=D I agree and I liked Jeff, I still think of him as a Sun and not as a Jazz player

I’d like to think of him as a Suns player, but the Spazz have at least as much claim on him; I think he played there as long or longer. In the 1993-94 season, the Republic had a sports news article suggesting Hornacek wanted to come back. I sometimes wonder what things would have been like if the 76ers had taken Dan Majerle instead of Hornacek, not that I didn’t love Majerle as much as anyone.
