Mercury close 4-1 road trip with huge win over Storm
This was truly a great win over the team chasing Phoenix for the Western Conference lead. Seattle's Sue Bird nailed another late three to send the game to OT but the Mercury's depth wore out Seattle's stars.
All five of the Storm starters logged over 40 minutes while 3 bench players combined for only 2 points in 21 minutes.
Shooting only 41% it wasn't pretty but the strength and depth of the Phoenix roster (which is still without Nicole Ohdle in the middle) was the difference. The Mercury bench lead by Penny Taylor's 18 combined for 33 points and allowed the team's stars to be fresh for the OT. The Mercury outscored the Storm 17 to 6 in the extra five minute period.
This win comes on the heals of Saturday's victory over the 3rd place Lynx and solidifies Phoenix's (16-6) hold on the West with a 3 game lead over Seattle (12-8).
The Mercury's next game is Saturday at home against the Indian Fever who lead the league with a 15-4 record.

The first thing I thought to myself after reading this was
“There is a team named INDIAN FEVER?”
And I feel for PhxStan for being so deligent on covering the WNBA stuff, when many of us here are giving it a polite yawn. At least you made me discover that Indiana has its own WNBA team.
According to John Hollinger's analysis,
it's possible to go 98 and -16 with Goran Dragic as your backup PG.
I'm enjoying the Mercury
they are a team in serious contention for a title which is fun at any level and they are filled with some great sports personalities. The game itself once you get used to is is also quite interesting albeit much different than the NBA.
At some point, I am going to find the time to write about those differences in more detail.
In the mean time, the season only has about 6 more weeks and 12 more games until the playoffs

I am really excited
to see Penny play with this team on Saturday vs the Fever. She’s obviously ready to make a big impact but I want to see how it all looks on the floor
