Daily Links: Mercury Beat LA! and Advance to Finals
- Mercury Advance to Finals as Leslie Graduates to Greatness - Swish Appeal
The Phoenix Mercury defeated the LA Sparks to win the WNBA Western Conference Championship by a score of 85-74. The Mercury advance to face the Indian Fever in the WNBA Finals. - I swear I want to be a Phoenix Mercury fan| Valley of the Suns
Still, a championship is a championship, and to some tiny degree the Merc are proving you can win a title in something like Seven Seconds or Less like the Suns of this decade tried so hard to do. In that vein, I promise to attend a Mercury Finals game if they are good enough to beat LA. You know, unless I find something better to do.

Goran Dragic interview from 2007...kind of interesting - Suns' Barbosa getting fresh start
The team is going to be really alive. I don't think anybody is expecting anything from our team. (center) Shaq (O'Neal) is gone, and he was the main guy. I like it this way. Nobody expects anything. "That's who we are right now with the personnel we have so that's the way we intend to play," he said. "We have a chance to be a more efficient offensive team. Our goal is to try to run on every possession and be in the attack mode. you know I love Nash as much as anyone, but Kidd has transformed the Nets as much as Nash transformed the Suns. Also, he was a year-in-year-out discussion in the Defensive Player of the year and All Defensive Team. He is also second (or maybe thrid) on NBA triple-doblue list, which is a hell of an accomplishment. during the first few years of the decade he was more improtant for his teams than Nash and from 05 on, he was almost as good as Nash. I think this is justifiable.

Jason Kidd - according to Kelly Dwyer
“Put it all together – the stifling defense, the pinpoint passing, the burgeoning shooting acumen, the scoring touch in transition, in the paint, or his staunch rebounding abilities – and you nearly have the perfect point guard.”
The burgeoning shooting acumen? is this some kind of joke? He’s the worst shooter of the entire group!

yes that is BS
but all the other are true

of course
but I’m trying to be objective here. both are very good point guards who specialise in transition game. however while Nash is a way, way superior shooter, Kidd is the better rebounder, a more vocal leader, and (excluding last year) as superior a defender as Nash is a shooter. both can (could?) be counted on to get clutch shots and hit clutch free throws… and Kidd did take NJ to the finals twice (though I’ll admit the eastern conference was lighter than the west the past few years, then again his team was worse also)

you are making far too much sense

That might possibly have been why Dwyer used the phrase “burgeoning shooting acumen.” Burgeoning shooting = B.S. Or it could just be because, as his posts suggest, Dwyer babbles.

Or is Kelly Dwyer a woman? Please excuse my presumptiousness. Kelly is a gender-neutral name.

the Amar'e Stepping it Up article
I don’t get it..she talks about Amar’e which is all cool..what he read..that’s great..
but then the end kind of baffles me.
“Part of that will mean addressing questions about his durability and ability or desire to play lockdown defense.
Leaving Phoenix is one option. He revealed that several weeks ago. When asked last week if his legacy depended on winning a championship, Stoudemire paused, again. Several seconds passed as he sat in front of the black piano in the lobby of the Ritz-Carlton.
“That definitely can help,” Stoudemire said. “That will definitely get you over the hump.”’
Leaving Phoenix is one option for winning a championship? I don’t get it.

nope
Eight years removed from a senior season at Cypress Creek High School in which Stoudemire was one of the best high school players in the country, seven years removed from an NBA rookie of the year season, Stoudemire feels the itch to take a next step in his career.
so to take the next step, leaving Phoenix might be an option

Interesting discussion Nash vs Kidd.
Almost 2 years ago I wrote an article about the subject. The final conclusion was that Kidd had been better PG than Nash.
The article is written in Spanish, if anyone understands it, or want to translate …. here is the link

I totally agree with
Kidd having more influence on his team. as for being the better passer: in a way. he is better at finding people, at creating shots for others out of nothing while Nash is better at creating something really surprising out of nothing which noone expects (sometimes including his teammates) and at handing out really flashy assits, but I still agree Kidd is better, only by very very little… as for shooting, rebounding and defense there are no real questions I guess

What Nash is is creative. I think he’s the most creative point guard in NBA history with the possible exception of Bob Cousy.

Power Rankings on ESPN
According to the Power Rankings posted, ESPN thinks the Suns are the 6th best team in the west. It’s going to be close again though, at least for the 5-8 spots in the West.
