Thoughts, Observations, and Audio (Soon) From Suns Media Day 2009
Today was certainly the Bright Side of the Sun. Steve Nash called his mood "joyous," Amare was singing and pounding a basketball playfully. J-Rich was all smiles. He even talked about playing defense, and Steve Kerr was, Steve Kerr.
2009 Suns media Day was enough to send me home with a smile on my face. The talk from everyone was positive. Of course it would be, they haven't played a game. But when Steve Nash says he's very comfortable with the Centers on the team, you believe him. Then later you think about it-Frye really? Lopez, really? Then you think, "well maybe we will be ok."
Stan and I picked up some awesome interviews. They will be up tomorrow. In the meantime, here are some tidbits of interviews I remember off the top of my head:
- Lou Amundson wants to be called Louis.
- Steve Nash is pretty thick in person, not frail and skinny as he looks going up against Chris Paul and Barron Davis
- Dan Dickau is indeed a Sun. And unlike Steve Nash, he is very short and with the exception of his arms, very skinny.
- Alvin Gentry stated Amare Stoudemire will be playing the 5 even though Mr. Tzu may not know it at the time (SHHHH Don't tell him).
- Steve Kerr believes Channing Frye will be shooting "a lot of threes."
- Louis Amundson is not relieved his bike is safe now that Shaq is gone. In fact he had nothing negative to say about Shaquille.
- Amare Stoudemire likes to be the center of attention, or: Amare is just naturally wired, very vocal and full of joy because he was jumping around, bouncing a ball all over the place, smiling ear to ear talkin' this and that all over the joint.
- Jared Dudley is still working the tweet and all over the NBA street rags doing interviews. The man can talk, and his personality is more than cordial.
- Leandro Barbosa doesn't care if he's starting or not so we shouldn't care either.
- Earl Clark wants a piece of Kobe and Carmello Anthony
Stay tuned, more to follow!

I guess Louis Amundson doesn’t care to be retro, because that’s what “Lou” is—retro.

He'll be Lou whether he likes it or not

The important thing is:
He has nothing bad to say about Shaq. And neither should you!

You know Shaq is the scapegoat, its the ignorant analysts' go-to move
Heaven forbid anyone actually look at what the rest of the roster is. Only in Phoenix could the lone dominant force and All-Star on the team (for the entire year, mind you) who shoots 60% be the scapegoat.
Well, it should be easier on the Suns players this year. They won’t be getting the national media attention…nor will anyone be expecting the team to accomplish anything significant (and rightfully so).

It wasn’t his stats. It was his self-centered attitude. He wanted the same things Amare Stoudemire wanted.

Amare also wasn't complaining about Shaq.
Amare wishes Shaq was still here.
If there’s one blemish on Steve Nash’s record, it’s that he couldn’t play well with Shaq.

Shaq padded his stats
against inferior opponents and didn’t do what was necessary for the Suns to win. Oh, I already covered that.

I can give my total support
to any kid who says they want their piece of Kobe…

If he plays defense like Raja Bell
at 6’10 and crazy athletic, we really have a find on our hands.

I’ll tell you something about Clark-I haven’t seen him play, but he is very very tall and very very long. When we put 15 more pounds of muscle on the kid, look out-he’s an absolute freak of nature.

we just might find
the next Matrix/Granger lurking in him. I’d even accept the next Rudy Gay as long as he doesn’t just focus on scoring as Gay does (who has all the abilities to be a multi-category contributor as evidenced by his rookie year)

I thought he's closer to Anthony Randolph
But maybe Matrix is a good comparison too.
I don’t know that much about Clark. Can he pass the ball and run a little point-forward?
by gadogry on Sep 29, 2009 9:10 AM MDT up reply actions 0 recs
He is a very good passer
for his size…I think he’s one of these tall guys that grew late and started playing basketball as a guard.
He has the potential to have pretty much all the tools. Remains to be seen if he’s got the desire and b-ball IQ to put it all together. High upside but also by no means a sure thing

I love this quote!
Leandro Barbosa doesn’t care if he’s starting or not so we shouldn’t care either.

Yes but does he care if he's finishing, too?
by Mike Lisboa on Sep 29, 2009 11:21 AM MDT up reply actions 0 recs
Nah, he’s just simply happy. Gotta new wife, baby on the way, gold medal, and he is very happy Alvin Gentry is coach and the team is the way he likes it.

I don't think so
You know, we really make out Barbosa to be this happy savage, but his play says he likes to start, even if he denies it.

good point.
must NOT care if we START, but MIGHT care if we FINISH with LB, since LB didn’t say whether or NOT he cares about FINISHING. LET’S GO SUNS!!!!
