Risk and Reward
It would be very easy to be a GM having all the money in the world and with the great players wanting to play on your team. But usually the reality is just the opposite. So you have 2 options: be quiet or risk.
Let's play to be a GM. I would make a risky change: JRich x Eddy Curry. I must say that I looked at the ESPN trade machine and the trade doesn’t work, but only for 100.000 $, so I guess that this problem could be solved.
Arguments in favour of the trade:
- We have good scorers in the roster and SG & SF position are well covered.
- We need big players.
- This trade involves changes in the starting lineup; Hill can play at SG and Dudley at SF, keeping LB as 6th man. This team: Nash-Hill-Dudley-Amare-Frye is better defensively and keep scoring capacity.
- Coming off the bench: PG: Dragic-Barbosa SG: Barbosa-Tucker SF: Clark PF: Lou-Curry C: López
- It seems that this season Curry is better physically. He has always been a good scorer in the low post. With the duo López-Curry we can emulate the duo Chander-Curry. One is the rebounder and the other the scorer.
- Looking at the financial aspect of the operation, you can save 2,8 m$ in salary and other 2,8 m$ in luxury tax the 1st. year and 3 m$ in salary and other 3 m$ in luxury tax the 2nd. year.
To end: I know JRich is an asset for the team and Curry is an ( ? ). But, do we have anything to lose? I think not because we aren’t a championship contender team, simply we are a team that can make a good season.

Won't happen
Knicks are looking to save money.
They won’t take JRich back simply because they won’t want his salary. They want to shed as much money as possible for free agency next year. They have made that clear and are sticking to it. That is why Nate Robinson and David Lee only got 1 year qualifying deals.
Now if you had a big expiring or non guaranteed contract and some dirt, Knicks would give you Curry
Take JRich back?
They never had him. You’re thinking of Q.

Curry is a black hole
the ball’s never coming back. No real defense, and 6 boards a game for a 6’11", 300 pounder is just not right.

+1
Curry’s a toned down Zach Randolph… and anything remotely related to Zach Randolph can’t be good.
Plus, we already have our scoring C in Amare. I bet he doesn’t like the idea of a buffet table clogging the lane.
And as RGreyslak mentioned, NY aren’t taking on $. And they have their own 5’7" JRich already.
Although the idea of flipping JRich for a big is good, I think this is a trade that neither team would be willing to do.

By the way
Very coincidentally, I made the following comment on watdogg’s most recent comic strip:

But I said that before matrix7 posted this. Just want to clarify that I didn’t make that comment to mock you or something.
Does anyone mind a question about another center who used to be Curry’s teammate? Will Jerome James ever become a usable player again? I swear, Hollinger had the best basketball putdown I’ve ever read for Jerome James when he was with the Knicks: that they should eat his contract, but he might have done it already.
Jerome James has never been a good player because he never had the attitude to play. Throughout his career has only played well in 04/05 PO

Old School James
James did make a difference on the court when he was in his last year in Seattle. He had a “presence” you could tell when he was out there he had confidence and he had an impact.
Seeing him in New York… Not so much, pretty much invisible out there as regards to affecting the game.

Yeah
I was just sayin he was effective for one post season. He could be a decent 3rd (2nd?) center to take up space on the bench. If they can sign him for peanuts, I’d rather have him then Blake Griffin’s baby brother. That way we can get him in the game if we need someone to get in Shaq’s way or foul out or something. Whatever I guess.
Oops. I knew it, but didn’t think of it. Well, Taylor Griffin should perhaps wish some other team had drafted him. Someone who has room for him, because the Suns sure don’t.
Not really...
…because Griffin’s not even big enough to pretend to be a center, is he? Unless the Suns either play small lineups all the time, or say to hell with the center position and sign no replacement center.
play STAT at 5 and Griff
at the 3. Clark plays the 4. No big deal.

Forgot about those guys
play Hill at the 2 guard. Frye? Let him play point.

Well, if position doesn’t matter, why don’t you just say so? I’m not the most knowledgeable basketball follower—it took me years to understand what a pick-and-roll was and to understand that a screen-and-roll is the same thing.
You're right
Hill would be a nice point guard. Play Frye at the two.

I like the lineup as is
Nash
JRich
Hill
Amare
Frye
Off the bench, I can see Lou playing a bit at the 4 & 5, Amare playing a bit of 5 as well. I can see Clark playing the 3 and 4, and for pre-season purposes, I see TGriff playing the 3 and that’s it. He’s too slow for the 2 and too small for the 4.
