David Stern Suspends Gilbert Arenas Indefinitely

My take: Gilbert gave Stern no choice. He admitted to the "crime" of bringing 4 unlicensed guns into the locker room in violation of league rules and the law in Washington, DC.

While the details are still under investigation, including his dispute with his teammate that involved the guns in some way, Gilbert mocked the incident with his tweets and this amazingly stupid move before last night's Wizards game.

The league couldn't wait for the investigation to finish before acting with Gil playing the fool and disrespecting the league and showing no real understanding or remorse for his admitted actions.

Also, no question in my mind that the Wizards are jumping all over this to save money and perhaps void what many consider the worst contract in the NBA (4 yrs left, over $90m). Gilbert couldn't have helped the team more in that if he tried.

what a cool thing for the wizards, to be able to void that contract! I’m happy for them, and won’t miss arenas at all…

guess he didn’t realize he was under David Stern’s microscope.

my guess is that his contract is voided, and he’s suspended the rest of the season (50 games). That would put his offense (and remember no-one was physically assaulted or hurt) as being less serious than Ron Artest or Latrell Sprewell’s, but more serious than Kermit Washington, or Stephen Jackson’s & Jermaine O’Neal’s contributions to the “Malice at the Palace”.
