Without Steve on the floor, the Suns are just running around the floor like sparkly, arcing lights, but the team isn’t making the jump to lightspeed. Nobody (with the exception of GHill) really knows how to plug in to the source of power. Guys go out on the 3 pt line and stand around. Dragic does a great job of blowing by defenders and slapping something off the board, but we don’t know how to interact to another w/o Steve— we’re just any other team; we’re not the Suns.
Nash is that little random neutron that’s the catalyst to the nuclear explosion that is the fast-breaking, three-bombing freak-show fusion that is the PHX Suns!!
Other PGs try to be like Nash; they pass and set up shots. Nash’s ball movement MAKES you hit the shot; you have to dunk it, or hit the three. I don’t care bout Hollinger’s PER. Nash causes every teammate on the court with him to increase 5 levels— suddenly, they’re leaping over defenders, and fast-breaking faster than they ever thought possible, and scorching the nets with shots they didn’t believe they could make!
Nash leads the league in TVE (Teammate Value Elevation). Normal men become supermen around him. Suddenly, the Matrix thinks he’s superstar caliber. Suddenly, Stoudemire is worth $100 million.
With Nash on the floor, the DeLorean is revving and clicking at 88 mph, raring to go anywhere in time and space. Without Steve, the Suns look like that old electric football game that buzzes as the players randomly circle about.
