Suns Trade Rumor: Hedo On His Way Back to Orlando?
The word on the street is that the Suns could be part of the Gilbert Arenas to Orlando Magic trade.
From Ken Berger, CBS Sports:
UPDATE: League sources say a third team is involved, with the Suns possibly contributing Hedo Turkoglu to the equation. The Magic, trying to make a bold move to close the gap with Boston and Miami, would wind up with Arenas and Turkoglu, who would return to the team he led to the NBA Finals before a frustrating year in Toronto. Magic center Marcin Gortat is "100 percent involved," though it's unclear whether the Magic would be sending out Rashard Lewis, Vince Carter, or both.
From Evan Dunlap at Orlando Pinstripes Reporting On Alex Kennedy's Story (Hoopsworld):
Kennedy says Orlando has engaged teams including the Denver Nuggets, Phoenix Suns, and Portland Trail Blazers to make a second deal, perhaps involving the aforementioned package of Carter and Gortat. Among the players discussed is Phoenix forward Hedo Turkoglu, who spent five seasons with Orlando, only to sign with the Toronto Raptors in the 2009 free-agency period. "Lon Babby, the president of basketball operations in Phoenix, allegedly didn't make the trip to Dallas recently so that he could continue working the phones," according to Kennedy.
Turkoglu's stock has fallen inside the Suns organization with questions arising about his fit on the team. He wasn't able to adapt to playing the power forward position which took him out of the starting lineup and between Steve Nash's propensity to dominate the ball and Turkoglu's free-lancing plays with the second unit, he's not been able to find a role. There is also a perception that he doesn't play with enough consistent passion or energy although at times he's been very impressive on the defensive end but mostly only late in games.
Obviously the Hedo experiment did not work out as planned, so Turk seems to be an obvious choice to send packing among the other players with any trade value that wouldn't cripple the team. The question now remains, who or what do the Suns get in return.
The other piece in the discussion is Jason Richardson. Rich will be a FA after the season, and judging by the numbers this season, would be commanding a pretty big contract. Vince Carter is making $17 mil and change and has a team option for next season at 18 million. I don't see much sense to trade one potential FA for another right now unless it yielded a combination of a high draft pick, Bass and Gortat. The Suns won't take on any expensive long term contracts obviously.
Assuming the Suns are involved in this deal, it would seem Bass and Gortat would be the main desirable pieces. Bass is in the second year of an 18 million dollar 4 year deal and could fill in at PF while Gortat hits the backup C role. With Frye starting at PF, Bass could come off the bench at the 4, move Warrick to the 3 and send Dudley to the 2, which is not necessarily ideal for the slow footed Dudley.
Keep close to BSOTS for updates as they are reported.

If we get one of these three players for Hedo being Gortat, Pietrus and even Bass I’d be a little happier. I’m really not afraid to take Vince Carter if it comes down to that. He’s on an expiring deal right? Plus, we could use another SG because it will probably be a while until Josh heals up and adjust to the NBA.
Don't trade Dudley!
He is not on an expiring deal, I think you can terminate it before a certain date, but I'm 100% certain he is not under an expiring

team option next season
something like 4mil guaranteed 2011-12, basically an expiring deal if teams want it to be.
if we got bass
this would be a solid deal for us…can’t believe we would be able to get rid of turk’s contract
yahoo says
we would also get a 1st round pick
Yahoo says that the deal is complete; clark, turk, and rich are on their way to orlando

Rich is
being discussed as well. I don’t know that I’d rather have Vince than JRich. But it’s making sense if the Suns dont want to pay JRich what he’d be worth after this season. Vince would be a rental obviously…Next season, barring another signing, Chill is the only 2 on the roster which scares me because he’s never going to score like Rich.

Wow,
this sounds like a huge trade. First real test for our FO. I hope we don’t blow it. But Hedo for Gortat + something sounds totally awesome. But J-Rich for VC doesn’t sound like a great deal.
Things have hit rock bottom.
We’re seriously excited about the prospect of getting Marcian Gortat? A player who is simply big and nothing else? I’ve watched him, I don’t rate him and I don’t want him on the Suns.
And if Vince Carter joins us, I will centre all my hatred on him. He is terrible. He’s already thinking about retiring and he’s weak.
Okay, so the only bonus of getting VC is clearing capspace after his contract ends in two years and with the lockout coming, I guess that’s kinda helpful.
But we need to do better than this. We can’t accept this.
I imagine Lewis would go to Washington but if he even thinks about coming to Phoenix, I will gouge my own eyes out.
And rash rumours about getting rid of JRich are hurtful. He’s been our third best player this year and he’s expiring.
Hedo Turkoglu is my new favourite.
Disagree.
If you say that about Gortat, the same thing can be said for Fropez.
Who would start at center? Gortat or Lopez?
Marcian currently has a 4 year contract at 6mil per…we want that do we?
Hedo Turkoglu is my new favourite.
Considering Lopez is injury prone...
Also, we do need size to match up with the Lakers, playing one of them at the 4 and the other at the 5 doesn’t seem like too bad of an idea.
I like Turtles!
We're not gonna be meeting the lakers in the playoffs unless it's the first round.
I agree that we need size but is Gortat really the best we can do?
This is hugely disappointing. And premature.
Hedo Turkoglu is my new favourite.
Off the top of my head, no.
As a franchise, the decision needs to be made whether the team is going to be rebuilding or trying to patch things up.
I can’t believe that less than a year after making the WCF, we’re in this position.
Hedo Turkoglu is my new favourite.
its been the domino affect of losing STAT
which isnt entirely our fault. We would not be in this position if Amare had stayed. I feel that losing pony tail was bigger than we thought.

Uh, you mean...
…if Suns FO had given STAT a vote of confidence and been able to see that he was going to still be a beast like he’s showing in NY, and just paid the man??
Imagine for a second, what this team would be like having STAT back. So maybe we don’t have Hakim, or JChill. But I would be perfectly happy with the team that finished the season last year.
And now we’re going to possibly unload the only true scorer we have left? So are we trying to even sniff the post season in the next few years, or is this just about unloading dollars and building an average team for years to come??

Amar'e has a 5 year contract
we were perfectly willing to pay him the same as he got from new York 20 games into the season. Its 3-4 years down the line when his knee is hanging off and his retina is falling out that we were concerned about.
He was originally going to start with the Mavs last season, but the Magic declined the trade and that pissed him off because he’s stuck backing up Howard who gets like 60 minutes a night. The guy is good. He may or may not start if he came to us, but he would get more minutes. I’m curious to see how he and Warrick could do next to each other because I think Hakim needs to play next to someone big.
Don't trade Dudley!
Yea, I don’t want to lose J-Rich, however I’ve always like Gortat.
The 08-09 trade was kind of risky as no one was really sure how J-Rich would fit, plus we didn’t even know who Dudley was and thought he was just a throw in. Giving up Bell was difficult and for some Diaw was too.
Don't trade Dudley!
Gortat's advanced stats are pretty promising

We haven’t given Hedo enough of a chance! Look at that picture of him up there smiling! He’s happy here!
It’s not exactly like Hakim and J-Chill have fit into their roles perfectly. They have all had their moments, including Hedo.
He needs more time. I don’t want to trade him or anyone else on the team right now. Obviously, this year wil be slightly above average at best, but I just can’t bear to lose anyone right now, just as I was getting used to the way this team played! Hedo deserves a chance!!!!!

Who ever thought Hedo would be an acceptable power forward?
Nothing he has done in his career should have led anyone to believe that, and this was a huge miscalculation by…..Sarver? Steve Kerr with one foot out the door? If we deal him, not only will it unburden us of the weight of his contract for a player who has no role on our team, it will allow us to see what the new front office can do. If we exchange him for an equally overpaid player, at least maybe it can be an overpaid player that fits a need.

The season at the 1/3 pole
The Suns realize that Hedo must move on.
I think Gorat and another piece would be fine.
Suns have to do something.
While Bass certainly isn't great he is atleast athletic and does things a prototypical PF shoud be able to do...
Also would give us a guy who is atleast a little bit intimidating
Couple things to point out (though I'm not making any "we should/we shouldn't" claims based on such)
Vince Carter is being paid $17,522,375 this year, and $18,300,000 next, but the second year is not guaranteed. I don’t know if that’s fully or partially, but if it’s fully non then he’s really just this year at $17.5.
Rashard Lewis is being paid $19,573,711 this year, $21,136,631 next year, and $22,699,551 the third, the third being also not guaranteed. So his contract might just be two more years.
Additionally, if there is a lockout next year (and all sad signs point to yes), no one will have to pay next years salary, making both terrible contracts slightly less terrible, as they’re both probably just six month (god-awful) rentals.
Boll.
What is the most likely trade scenario here in your opinion?
I don’t think we could get Bass and Gortat in a deal for Turkey and his ginormous contract
I would normally agree, but Orlando seems to be a special situation
as their game plan top 5 lineup is to essentially surround Dwight Howard with four three-point shooters, making other PF’s and C’s less valuable in their system – as long as Howard is healthy.
Boll.

Duhon wouldn't be a terrible idea
If it saves us from having to swap Rich/Vince(like Seth’s article points out).
Also, he gives us a 3rd PG. Watching Dudley play “backup PG” when Dragic was starting in place of an injured Nash a few weeks ago was vomit-inducing. Duhon looked amazing for a while in D’Antoni’s system. I mean, I prefer Bass, but I doubt they give up Bass AND Gortat strictly for Hedo.

no way they give up Gortat, Bass and Lewis for Arenas and Hedo….
I am not thrilled w/ Dohon or his contract but I think it would be worth it to get Gortat. Dragic can still play the 2 at times and $14m isn’t horrible for Duhon (but not great either).
What I wouldn’t want to do is swap JRich for Carter. I think that sinks this team totally and basically is a blow up move at which point you also start shopping Nash.

One things for sure after seeing these trade rumors....
This team was built embarrassingly bad. Somehow actually worse than the Terry Porter hire.
I agree that something has to be done…but I like Hedo and would actually be sad to see him go. Also now we’ll get to see more late game situations where Steve Nash has no concept of time and dribbles around until passing it off with too little time for Jared Dudley/Grant Hill/Jason Richardson to attempt a shot.

If he dislodges JRich, we’re replacing a perfectly complimentary player to nash (catch and shoot rich) with a guy who is a big turd. He catches, waits for 15 seconds, tries to create his own and then takes an off balance jump.

I'm for it
Although I’d feel bad for Hedo. Sure the experiment didn’t work out, but it wasn’t like the guy never tried. He hit some big shots for us too. I remember a decent lineup that had Nash, Richardson, Turkoglu, Warrick, and Frye that they used at the end of the home game against Denver that worked very well. But that lineup obviously wouldn’t work against everyone.

He has been insanely clutch

I'd buy that for a dollar
Obv the only pieces we WONT move are Nash, Hill, Dragic, and Lopez. I will admit that I favored strongly trading JRich the entire time he’s been a Sun. However, that was when we still had scorers on our team (ie: Amare).
I cant fathom getting rid of JRich unless we get a serious scorer. I dont think VC will be a bad fit for this team at all. Actually, just thinking about the possibility of a Nash-VC Alley-Oop kinda gets me antsy in the pantsy.
Gortat is a must have for the Suns. If we dont get him in any deal with Orlando, then the whole deal is a bust. If they throw in JJ, I think we might have ourselves some serious firepower. I’ve always wanted JJ in a Suns uni. I think he fits perfectly in our system.

Like many of you said, we’re fixing a problem, but as well as creating another. I think we’ll be creating two more problems IMO because we’re losing scoring in J-Rich AND we’re messing up the team chemistry.
I dont think its a bad deal. Gortat would really help this team’s center deph, so when lopez hurtts his back again were got playing frye on other teams 5s anymore. VC is prob about the same talent as JRICH, VCs 3 pointer prob isnt as good, but he is a much better ball handler and can create shots in mid range much better. I dont think this trade would make the suns elite again, but i think we will be better. In essence, it all depends on Nash and his health, without Nash, this team wins 25 games a year?
i wouldn't be surprised if Nash wants out of this mess

I do think its an ok deal to swap J-rich for Carter in order to dump Hedo and get Gortat/Pietrus
They’re both athletic 2 guards on the downswing of their careers with little defensive ability but able to fill up the box score on any given night.
and if u notice, J Rich really cant get his own shot very well. When nash is not in, J Rich is often not very good. Look at all the games nash has missed this year including last night. VC is a little more crafty and will not need to rely on nash for production
Well if VC was able to play with Jason Kidd, I doubt he'll struggle with Nash.
I’m sure he’d be happy being our main scorer. As long as he’s hustling and doing what he needs to do, I’m fine with him.
"Yes the game threads have more mood swings than a coked up pregnant woman but you have to admit, it’s always a fun ride." - NashMV3
Carter is also a better playmaker for others than Richardson
when his heads in the game. It could actually work out to be an improvement for us at the 2 guard if Carter comes to play. One has to hope his respect for Nash would make him work hard here.
I'm glad we're getting a big in Gortat and we're moving Hedo
But why do we need Pietrus? We already have Hill, Chilly, and Dudley. Dudley, Chilly or maybe Pietrus will have to go.

HOW ABOUT GETTING ONE MORE DRIBBLING GUARD??
The Suns have exactly TWO players who can dribble and pass, Nash and Dragic!
It wouldn’t hurt having another player who can go one on one and beat his man to the hoop, drawing defense and feeding others for shots. Losing the speed of Barbosa left Dragic all alone as the sole mobile penetrating ball handler on the team w/o Nash.
It is clear, whoever broke up last years team was a fool!
That would be Amar'e Stoudemire.

Deal Dudley if anyone will take him....
The guy is as immobile on offense as a statue, he hit one big shot against the TWolves and acted like he hit the lottery, he sits at the 3-point line like a potted plant, can’t pass, can’t penetrate, has no moves to the hoop, can’t jump, and has no ball handling smarts or finesse and a lifetime average of ONE assist per game.
Aren't you the Dudley hater that Omaha was arguing with?
"Yes the game threads have more mood swings than a coked up pregnant woman but you have to admit, it’s always a fun ride." - NashMV3

"Yes the game threads have more mood swings than a coked up pregnant woman but you have to admit, it’s always a fun ride." - NashMV3
dudley..
The Dudz looks like that Chinese guy in the shoe ad with Howard around the hoop. Guys like Dudley who can’t jump, if they are any good close in, are like Nash with spinning moves, fall away jumpers, or hook shots, Dudz can’t do either, and doesn’t look like he cares to learn.
Pass?
A lot of 7-footers pass better, Dudz has a lifetime 1 assist per game, that means he can’t pass, not good for a guy his size who should be able to create some plays. He needs to do something other than wait at the 3-point line for Nash/Dragic to feed him for an open shot.
If you think he's that bad, why is he playing for the NBA

Wow thats Sound logic
If the Lakers are not trying to take said player, obviously they are turrrible.
What isn't true?
Dudley can pass, he can penetrate to a degree, dudley can defend, dudley can box out well, dudley has fast hands – steals…soooo….whats the problem? Not everyone plays everything well…case in point:
“Dear Nash if anyone will take him…”
This guys is as belabored as they come. He has a bad back, he passes too much when he should shoot, he is too short and can’t rebound, doesn’t play defense (as evidenced by his .7 steals a game) and turns the ball over waaaay too much. Anyone want to take him off our hands for a decent price?"

So it’s understandable.
"Yes the game threads have more mood swings than a coked up pregnant woman but you have to admit, it’s always a fun ride." - NashMV3
I didn't say he couldn't defend!!!
Why he can’t use those fast hands to develop passing/ball handling skills on offense is the question. Suns need more ball handlers, the Turk and Childress both have (some) penetrating offensive moves, Dudley has none.

Now that he has proven to be healthy and the Wizards are proven to suck, they will take anything.
The Magic get to compete this year. Their deep bench has not proven enough to be best in the East. Jrich>VC, Hedo>Rashard.
Suns get…um, fleeced, plus save money in 2011! Woohoo an NBA coupon for 2011.
Suns and Magic also get the PR bonus of avoiding the issue of resigning fan favorites, Jrich and VC.

Can't the Suns just trade Hedo for Bass, Gortat?
If would give them that inside presence they lack. Exchanging J-rich for Vince Carter’s corpse is going backwards. Cutting Carter in 2011 is the same as not extending a contract to J-rich. How excitied will VC be leaving a contender in his hometown to a team that has no chance of resigning him that is battling for an 8th seed?
I also want to point out the Gortat was exposed for his lack of skills last playoffs and is not some diamond in the rough everybody thought he was in 2009. He’s a backup and quite overpaid. Apparently the Suns only update their scouting every 2 years (see Hedo).

"Da Suns’ Bench. Call them Victoria’s Secret — all kinds of wonderful support."
It's now time to trade Nash to a contender
As much as I love his play and what he has meant to the franchise, it’s time to get max value for the future. This trade means rebuilding and cutting costs, the Suns office shouldn’t be foolish and hold on to him for marketing reasons. It’s time to look for draft picks and youth with high ceilings.

I would really love Nash. Could you send him to the Lakers? For... Steve Blake and Lamar Odom?
The RaiderLaker
Since Andrew Bynum is so fragile
There’s really nothing the Suns want from them

No offense
but seeing Nash in purple and gold would make me never watch an NBA game ever again.

WE NEED ONE MORE REC!
Steve Nash, the league's MVP, is a longhaired Canadian who spoke out against the war in Iraq and reads The Communist Manifesto. Quentin Richardson declared after a game-winning shot that it "was like Hamlet. It was a suspense thriller, and I killed them at the end." Amare Stoudemire, when asked to comment on a 22-point third quarter against the Kings, said, "I've got a tendency to jump over some guys' heads and throw it down."
Let's start the rebuild.
Get Nash the eff outta here and let him win a championship.

I don't like the idea of losing J-Rich...
I wonder how this trade is going to work out.

I can't stand fair-weather/bandwagon fans, stick with your team(s), throughout the good and the bad. And don't switch to whichever team wins the Super Bowl each year.
so......barron gets cut??? still a logjam at SF
C Gortat/Barron
PF Lopez/Frye
SF Grant/Chil/Dudz/Warrick
SG VC/Pietrus
PG Nash/Dragic
I think it's
C Robin/Gortat
PF Frye/Warrick

SG VC/Childress/Pietrus
PG Nash/Dragic
I AM DEPRESSED

Everyone wish @jrich23 the best in Orlando. Great player and great teammate! He will be missed. Damn.

yeah, but that “damn” at the end just shows his sorrow

If there was ever a time I wanted a player to fail a physical...
This would be that time Vince Carter.
Just take the Jrich for VC out of the equation and the Suns get better. Otherwise they are getting worse. Nice rebuilding!

I like the deal
Hedo just did not fit. We get some salary help, get a number 1, get more length, strength with Gorat, Vince should be ok. The team needed a jolt.
Hate to see JRich go, he will be missed. I think the team will be better. And the team will be better in the future.
I believe that I suggested some of this trade last week.
Magic receiving calls about Gortat. “Maybe they’ll take …….
Hedo back. I think that maybe his need to handle the ball so much just might not fit as well as we had hoped.” I hate to see J-Rich leave, Carter is kind of streaky but I think maybe a wash in that area. Pietrus can play….way better than Clark. And Clark ….well maybe this will light the fire in him that is needed in the NBA. Throw in a 2011 first round pick, some cash,…..and I truly believe that we come out BIG winners in this one. Don’t be surprised if a couple more moves aren’t coming…..still a little crowded at SF/SG. IMHO.( In My Humble Opinion)
