In regard to Alex's previous fanpost, I was thinking that it is becoming more and more evident that Josh Smith will be a Phoenix Sun by February. He is on and 11 million dollar contract, and with that trade exception, we have enough cash to make the deal possible. This is just a quick recap to refresh one of the looming possibilities.
Gortat is older than Lopez but he is also much healthier than him, and unlike Lopez he actually rebounds. Now that doesn't mean Lopez boxing out is a bad thing, but when Lopez secures a board he brings it down. By bringing the rock down, it leaves him in a vulnerable position to get it stolen. Then again, Lopez was our draft pick (So was Gortat) and still has plenty of potential. Gortat on the other hand is about to enter his prime, which means he is probably going to give the Suns 4-5 fantastic years, followed up with several solid seasons.
For the Hawks, I think they would want Lopez, but they would also be taking a risk as their trainers don't have magical hands. Say that the Hawks receive Lopez. Then they will have replaced a good rebounder with another good rebounder, added height, and better interior defense. The prospect of having Al Horford and Robin Lopez as part pf your frontline is something to salivate over. On the other hand, Marcin Gortat also provides more of the same that Lopez does, but without the running risk of injury.
This was a short fanpost for a reason, and maybe I should have just reduced this to a poll, but you guys are such a fantastic audience.
