We've been rosterbating quite a bit on this site, and some people are afraid they'll go blind from it. Believe me, when I see someone propose that we pick up Jermaine ONeal, my right hand goes a little numb too. Going to have throw away the napkin onto which I rosterbated that trade. :)
However, what would you say if I mentioned....Marcus Camby? If you didn't know, a) he's a player that doesn't need the ball much. b) he 's been a hell of a defensive player (his defensive rating is a mere 99 this season). C) he's averaging a career high in trb%, at 23.6% (2nd in the league, also leading the league in drb%). D) block pct% is 9th in the league, at 5.5% (dwight Howard is 8th in the league, Tim Duncan is 10th). All these things are things we need (post defense, rebounding, blocks).
So if Portland has someone like this, why would they give him away? Because Portland is about to explode. Andre miller has been rumored in the melo deal as headed to the nets....this is likely because brandon Roy and Andre, according to ESPN, have been feuding...Roy has declared that either they trade miller or Roy, because they are incompatible. There's also the issue that roys knees have been collapsing for years...its a situation, I hear, similar to yao, where its only a matter of time before Roy can't play anymore. When those two are out of the picture (forget about oden, who by not extending they have essentially sent into free agency) that team ain't be much of anything. Portland knows this, which is why if we send gortat, warrick and one first rounder they'll do it. Portland (more so under pritchard, but still relevant) loves stockpiling draft picks, gets a young super center in gortat if the oden situation doesn't work out, and they can do whatever the hell they want with warrick (they have more forwards than we have wings, and a couple first rounders they don't have any minutes for). Somebody out there is saying, "yo, but camby is 36!" A) he's playing the best basketball of his career. Does it matter? B) We have robin. He's going to probably be a beast by the time camby retires. C) if not, we still have chilly, pietrus, frye and another first rounder to trade for a younger guy. Right now, I think we are still contending, just as long as we put another big piece on our team.
