Around SBN: Tiger Woods Makes His 2012 PGA Tour Debut

There's more on this rumor that first surfaced a few days ago on Sports 620 KTAR.

I've been mulling this one over since it broke and I've decided I don't like it. Dalembert is a nice guy but at $12m next season would push Robin to the bench and Frye to the PF position.

Iggy would probably end up starting at the 3 in place of Grant Hill which isn't bad but it creates a log jam for Jason Richardson and Earl Clark and that assumes LB gets shipped out as well.

Log jams aside, I am not sure I like locking up Iggy at $12-15m/yr through 2014. I don't hate it but I don't like enough to move LB and Amare.

LB should be able to bring back nice value on his own if the Suns want to trade him this summer.

All in all, I still prefer the Nets deal which could give the Suns salary flexibility to get the mid-level guy they want plus a young prospect (Lee or CDR or Yi) plus a mid-to-late 1st rd pick via the Mavs.

Seriously?

The Nets trade is probably my least favorite option. Yi is not that good and they have no one else we could use. The only way we do it is if we get their #1 unptocted pick. Otherwise, we are getting pennies on the dollar. Most likely would not make the playoffs this year either.

by Suns Fan For Life on Feb 4, 2010 4:12 PM MST reply actions

They're pennies on the dollar is

better than a) getting nothing or b) locking up the wrong guy for 4 years at $12-$15m per.

Why on earth would the 76ers want to move Iggy is he’s that good just so they can bring Amare who already plays the same position as Brand AND Speights?

by Seth Pollack on Feb 4, 2010 4:18 PM MST up reply actions

Because sometimes teams (especially corporate owned teams) make moves that have nothing to do with basketball and have more to do with financial aspects.

This is not about basketball it’s about the projected 2011 tax – the sixers are over – and their corporate owner don’t want to pay the luxury tax.

See those moves new orleans made this year – giving players away for draft picks they’ll never get – this is just that on a much bigger scale.

The sixers also WANT Amare to opt out – it’s not about him as a player it’s about him as a potential expiring contract…his public comments about NOT opting out if true are what kills this deal

by jemagee on Feb 4, 2010 4:20 PM MST up reply actions

Honestly? I think because the 76ers franchise is run by fools. It has been for years, even under different owners. Harold Katz, who owned the 76ers in 1992 and therefore approved the Charles Barkley trade, certainly came out the loser in that trade, and already had a reputation as a sap in basketball.

by species8473 on Feb 4, 2010 4:22 PM MST up reply actions

The current owners of the sixers are comcast corporation, and while poorly run i wouldn’t call them ‘saps’ – since they just bought 1/4 of your cable channels (or are trying to) :)

Contrary to popular belief, Philadephia ain’t a basketball town, not really, not if they aren’t winning…the sixers thought they could build around brand and iguodala, brand got hurt, they made a stupid hire, and then the recession hit. (Raise your hand if you predicted that after years of going up the 2010/11 luxury tax level was going to do down)

The sixers are owned by a publicly own corporation, I hate corporate ownership in sports, I hate owners who primary concern isn’t winning, the owners of the sixers are answerable to stockholder.

by jemagee on Feb 4, 2010 4:24 PM MST up reply actions

Yes, and the reason I don’t like corporate ownership of a team is because it probably will never sell.

by species8473 on Feb 4, 2010 4:26 PM MST up reply actions

Actually, it’s even more complicated when you take the sixers into account.

Comcast owns the sixers/flyers/and where they play (wachovia center) under comcast spectacor…they also (obviously) own the network that broadcasts the sixes and flyers home games.

I conservaitvely estimated that it would take a billion dollars to buy it all from comcast (and then you just fold the hockey team, cause who really cares right?:) – but if comcast sold the sixers and JUST the sixers, why would anyone buy them if they didn’t get the rest of it.

It’s a messy situation (notice the NFL has no corporate owners)

by jemagee on Feb 4, 2010 4:29 PM MST up reply actions

Well, did Comcast pay for the 76ers’ arena? If it did, then corporate ownership isn’t all bad, because I oppose public funding for sports venues.

by species8473 on Feb 4, 2010 4:31 PM MST up reply actions

I’m not that involved in it but I know comcast owns the wachovia center

Iverson is a one year rental and a waste of roster space – Iguodala is more unhappy about trade speculation and wasting his career with an idiot coach than Iverson

I mean, if we’re just throwing crap against a wall with no basis in fact or reports

by jemagee on Feb 4, 2010 4:28 PM MST up reply actions

Huh?

Its well reported that Iggy is unhappy with the role he has been relegated to since Iverson came back. Furthermore, look at his numbers. They have sharply dropped since Iverson went to Philly even though Iverson has been out quite a bit. Look it up on RealGM if you want sources.

Dont blame me for your ignorance.

by N8lol on Feb 4, 2010 4:32 PM MST up reply actions

I don’t buy it – real gm tiself is as reliable as Peter Vesscey or Sam Smith

Iguodala has never really been unhappy (seeming) until the past couple weeks which are more about trade rumors since Iverson has been here longer.

Signing Iverson was an awful move by the sixers anyway

by jemagee on Feb 4, 2010 4:37 PM MST up reply actions

Whether or not Iverson was a good move is debatable

But that is really beside the point. You have made a ton of claims on this page but haven’t backup any of your info with sources but you insist that I do so. When I do, you shut my “source” down. Sounds inconsistent to me…

I heard about Iggy’s discontent weeks before trade talks started forming. Like in early January. It is not surprising really…his numbers have dropped pretty sharply since Iverson’s return. I grant that some of his problem might be with the coaching but the fact is that he is unhappy.

Reading is good...

by N8lol on Feb 4, 2010 4:41 PM MST up reply actions

My claims are based on my own interpretation of what the sixers do and have done and I follow them on a daily basis.

There’s one semi reliable source on realgm.com sixer forums i trust – he has his own thread – he’s not as reliable as he was in the past.

There are two sixer beat writers worth their salt – one is kate fagan and one (tom moore) posts on both realgm and the blog i read primarily about the sixers.

I’ve read nothing from sources I trust that say iguodala is unahppy ABOUT IVERSON

by jemagee on Feb 4, 2010 4:44 PM MST up reply actions

Right...

A clarification, I dont mean to say that Iguodala is mad about Iverson’s signing, but that he is upset about the impact Iverson’s inclusion into the offense has had on his place. The effects are obvious. Anyone can look at the number drop. Maybe its also because of Brand’s supposed insistence on having more touches. Whatever it is, Iguodala’s numbers have dropped in the last month and a half and he is sick of it (not my interpretation).

Reading is good...

by N8lol on Feb 4, 2010 4:47 PM MST up reply actions

I don’t disagree that he’s upset – I disagree that it’s about Iverson.

And Brand ‘insistence’ for more touches (that’s a new one to me too – i have to know who your source for this stuff is) was echoed by the freaking GM on the radio who said Brand was playing good enough to start – and lo and behold – next game he was starting (as was Jrue Holiday)

Brand DESERVES touches because he’s the best offensive weapoin the sixers have – but coach Eie Joran is a moron – he runs out a back court of two guys who are ‘generously’ 6’ tall each – he makes comments like “i go with my gut” and “your best offensive players are your best defensive players”

The sixers problems on the court this year start and end with the idiot coach

by jemagee on Feb 4, 2010 4:49 PM MST up reply actions

Sounds good to me...

Again, I dont know the specifics of what goes on in the locker room. I never claimed that. But I have read that Iguodala is upset because his role has been downgraded. Be that about coaching, Brand, Iverson, Speights, Holiday, or whoever doesn’t matter.

What I take issue with is claiming that he is only upset because of the trade rumors which, I think, is patently false.

Moreover...

Look at the shot numbers. I wont do Iverson’s because the data set is skewed, but Brand went from 121 to 169 to 171. Iggy, conversely, went from 243 to 206 to 169. Thats a HUGE disparity.

ANdre Iguodala isn’t a primary scorer
He has never been a primary scorer
Asking him to be a primary scorer is contrary to the way he plays basketball

Your ‘analysis’ that he’s unhappy because his shot count went down when more talent was added to the team is something I find very suspect.

Show me something from someone connected to the team – not your extrapolation of box scores

by jemagee on Feb 4, 2010 5:22 PM MST up reply actions

Your argument does hold any bearing...

I am not saying he is unhappy because of his scoring load. What I am saying is that the statistics yield data that corresponds to some reports that he is unhappy with his role. I don’t know what he wants his role to be, what he expects it to be, or what you think it should be, or what it has been in the past.

Here we go

In November and Decembers Iggy averaged 18 and 19 pts respectively. In January, arguably around the time when Brand started putting up bigger numbers and wanting more touches, his PPG drops drastically to 13. Thats not a small drop. It tells me that where once Iguodala was a focal point of the offense, he has now taken back seat to someone else, namely, Brand who, in November averages 11ppg and in December and January averages 15 and 15 resecptively and Iverson who went from 12, to 15 and 14.

Reading is good...

by N8lol on Feb 4, 2010 5:16 PM MST up reply actions

So you don’t have an actual source?

When did the sixers sign Iverson – i believe it was before January.

I’m confused, is it because of Brand or Iverson

And just because his points per game go down doesn’t mean he’s unhappy…he’s never been the leading scorer on a team until just last year or so – did you know that – not even at ARizona.

He leads the team in scoring and assists and is second at reboudning.

Do you have a source that printed what you claim is Iguodalas unhappiness or did you extrapolate based on box scores with out any reports?

by jemagee on Feb 4, 2010 5:18 PM MST up reply actions

Part of it is extrapolation...

though I did read it in some Dime article talking about upcoming trades. This was several weeks ago. Furthermore, notes have been put in Fantasy update about it since early January. I have Iggy on my team so I know about that…

Whether you find those sources “reliable” or not is entirely up to you. I gave you the box scores. It doesn’t seem a far stretch to say that you can interpret the data, plus what some sources are saying, as Iguodala not being happy with his role in the last month or so.

Reading is good...

by N8lol on Feb 4, 2010 5:23 PM MST up reply actions

OH why didn’t you say so – your source is dime magazine

Reliability level – Peter Vescey

I can look at box scores, i read sixers blogs avidly, i know his numbers are down, but recently (hell january was only six weeks ago) and have gotten worse recently AS TRADE RUMORS TALK HAS INCREASED

by jemagee on Feb 4, 2010 5:25 PM MST up reply actions

Where's your source for that?

I mean, are you interpreting data? Have you talked to Iguodala? Or are you reading blogs like this one and parroting things?

Reading is good...

by N8lol on Feb 4, 2010 5:32 PM MST up reply actions

I can look at a calendar – read rumors and look at the numbers.

I didn’t say he was unhappy did i – i din’t say anything about his ‘mood’ or his ability – i said his numbers are down more drastically as the trade talk gets more intense…

Your the one who talked about his happiness (first with Iverson and then with brand, nice switch) – you brought it up – I never brought up his emotional state – just that as the trade talk has gotten more intense the numbers have gotten worse.

You attached it to Iverson and then found out you were wrong, and then you attached it to Brand, and somehow, giving the ball to elton brand who is the only real power forward the sixers have really had since Barkley (webber was a fraction of himself) so he can score points easily over the weak ass PF’s in the west that he’s somehow unhappy

by jemagee on Feb 4, 2010 5:35 PM MST up reply actions

Nope.

I initially said Iverson and never backed off that. I added Brand because I had forgotten that I heard the same rumors about him as well. You asked for evidence that Iguodala might be upset at his role on the offense and I gave you some. Statistics and data is evidence. Sure, you have to interpret it and my interpretation was contiguous with the rumors that I subscribed to.

Your argument is one from negation. You cant possibly prove that the trade rumors are effecting his play. All you can do is posit a correlation just like I am doing.

Sheesh...not satisfied with anything are we?

Nothing the Nets have is worth it at this point. Their supposed “youth” will likely not pan out to anything worthwhile.

I get wanting to avoid a “logjam,” but the principle of the deal is that we are trying to rebuild for the next 4-5 years. The Nets would help us out for the short term in that they would provide some cap relief but their pieces don’t fit us. Then, come the summer, who are we going to sign? Now we are missing our main rebounder (sad huh?) and primary scorer in the post.

With the 76ers trade sure we have to deal with personnel issues for half a year but come February of 2011 we are golden with nearly 25mil dollars in expiring contracts. That is HUGE. Nothing we can pull together now is for the short term is worth that. We could grab several 1st round picks for two straight years plus several mid-level players or even a really hot player from a team looking to unload. Imagine next year being able to pick up a Bynum from the Lakers, or a Mayo, or Gay from Memphis, or a Josh Smith because those teams are looking to unload contracts for the summer.

Sorry, as much as a Nets deal might help to develop our youth by way of preventing competing minutes, I prefer Iggy and a ton of prospects that directly equate to 3-5 years of prosperity over ANYTHING the Nets can package right now INCLUDING a 2010 first round pick.

From an investment standpoint Yi would be the best decision

All the increased revenue would give the suns the ability to comfortably be in the luxury tax and sign some very expensive players, if Sarver would play it that way it could provide a lot of freedom financially.

by SSOHOWARD on Feb 4, 2010 4:20 PM MST reply actions

I don't want a wek PF just to get few bucks from China.

We have to use the extra money to sign someone to make up for Yi’s weaknesses.

by Suns Fan For Life on Feb 4, 2010 8:27 PM MST up reply actions

True dat,

But at least Sarver would have no excuse to be cheap.

by SSOHOWARD on Feb 5, 2010 5:37 PM MST up reply actions

So having 25 milly in expiring contracts means what in 2011?

Remember, having the money is only half the equation. There’s no guarantees about anything regarding free agents. What if everyone that fit our needs got locked up in 2010 or now because of the impending CBA? then we got 25 mill to overpay some bum in the future.

I’m not saying we take a crappy deal just to try and win now, but we can’t make assumptions about having money = getting good players. It’s like a bad draft year where you end up taking people you normally wouldn’t even associate with because that’s all there is in the pot.

by Max Simbron on Feb 4, 2010 4:21 PM MST reply actions

Unfortunately

No trade scenario is going to appease every fan. The problem here is that Kerr and Sarver do not appear — still — to have made up their mind on if they’re going to rebuild or not and if they’re going to rebuild, if Amare is part of that or not. They really need to make a decision and make the proper move.

Half the fans are ready for the rebuild and realize a Philly trade offers the least towards achieving a proper and quick rebuild.

Half the fans want to keep trying for the playoffs and the Philly trade seems like the best return of immediate talent.

by jburning on Feb 4, 2010 4:23 PM MST reply actions

I dont know...

I actually think the Philly trade offers MORE towards a rebuild than anything else. If we assume that LB goes to Philly with Amare then we have two expirings (Daly and Rich) next year. When we lose them we instantly become one of the youngest teams in the league. If that is not a rebuild I dont know what is.

by jburning on Feb 4, 2010 4:52 PM MST up reply actions

His contract is a player option into 2011-2012....

And considering all the massive changes in salary that are supposedly going to be made by the lower tax and the new CBA, LB’s 7.3 mil is waaay to much for his production.

I also take issue with the notion that he is productive at all, even when healthy. He has only ever been a scorer for us and not a particularly good one at that. His 6th Man year was his best year but instead of getting better he steadily regresses. We shouldn’t be paying 7 mil for a guy that chucks up bad shots most of the time…

by N8lol on Feb 4, 2010 4:57 PM MST up reply actions

ANY team in the NBA would love to have Barbosa

He is dirt cheap for what he can produce, if he were a starter he’d average 20+ and put up 30+ a few times a year. He would be a starter on 90% of NBA teams right now.

Has your memory totally left you? He has been injured all year, Barbosa has solidly been the most reliable bench scorer in the league (Manu has his injury problems).

We shouldn’t be paying 7 mil for a guy that chucks up bad shots most of the time

Barbosa may be out of control some times, but if he wasn’t he wouldn’t be Barbs, those crazy drives he does have been his bread and butter his entire career (except this season)

by SSOHOWARD on Feb 4, 2010 6:40 PM MST up reply actions

I still have my memory

And I still appreciate all that Barbs did for us those years with DAntoni. But this is not SSOL Suns and it wont ever be again. Moreover, this is not a short-bench Suns that allows LB to play with starters most of the time. This is a different system that relies on defense a lot more and frankly LB has absolutely none of it. I mean seriously, if we are trading Amare then the old days are truly over. Thats cool. But it also means that defense is going to HAVE to start being a much bigger part of our game. LB hasn’t shown any signs of being a good defender.

I get that he is injured this year but it doesnt really matter to me. I was ready to see him go when DAntoni was here. The only saving grace LB had during those years was that he was still really young and you could expect him to grow a lot more. But he hasn’t developed AT ALL in the last 2 years. He is still the same LB.

And I disagree about his potential production or starting quality. LB would not start on 90% of the NBA teams. Maybe 40%. Its possible that he could be a Devin Harris type guard putting up high teens but to say that he would put up numbers akin to Kevin Martin is ludicrous. He doesn’t have the moves.

Ok, 25mil in expirings is down right ridiculous. We use that next season to go on a youth/picks spree. How is that not a rebuild? I don’t really know whether a 76ers trade is good, but it is the only one that has shown up repeatedly, so there’s probably something going on. I don’t care about the logjams it would create, because that could be solved by another trade. Forget about Earl Clark’s minutes, because he isn’t getting enough anyway, and should possibly go to the D-league. Because Grant Hill is still good whenever he’s not tired, Iguodala should play shooting guard and either replace Jason Richardson or come off the bench.

Aside from SLAM magazine (with no link) you’ve provided no actual evidence that Iguodala is unhappy aside from your illogical jump from ‘less shots’ to ‘less happy’

Interesting.

Considering I have asked you multiple times for documentation on your claims but you have given none. I have at least made an attempt at it. That you ridicule my “source” is not my problem. If you want to have a separate conversation about the accuracy of SLAM or Scoop Jackson then fine, but my logic was well within reasonable parameters of the conversation at hand.

Again, what I have done is take the facts at hand along with rumors and posit a likely scenario. You have done the same but are to arrogant enough to not admit it. That is telling on multiple levels as is your attempts at pathologically undermining my argument by focusing in on my affinity for Duke basketball and my Fantasy sports affiliations.

I think you are referring to Iggy?

I can see the issue and there is some merit to point. I do wonder if Iggy would be happier here with a more collegial atmosphere. Plus, while he might not get what he wants in the way of numbers, his defensive ability alone seem worth it.

by species8473 on Feb 4, 2010 4:42 PM MST up reply actions

Regardless

No deal will happen until after the All Star break. So the deal goes down and Amare is gone. They wouldnt want that to happen before the All Stars; they want him to represent their team with pride.

by KnowGood on Feb 4, 2010 4:51 PM MST reply actions

You somehow think the absence of a trade but all the talk of a trade floating out there makes a difference to how ‘proud’ he is to represent the West (they don’t wear team jerseys any more do they?) in the ASG (rumor is that if traded, he would still rep the west)

by jemagee on Feb 4, 2010 4:52 PM MST up reply actions

You're misinterpreting what I'm saying

I’m not saying that he has pride in the team. I’m saying that every team in the league wants a player to represent their team in the All Stars. Its simple business and marketing. Nothing to do with players specifically. Its about the team name and merchandise. They’ll look rediculous to make the trade public before the break.

by KnowGood on Feb 4, 2010 4:55 PM MST up reply actions

actually what you said was

‘they want him to represent their team with pride’ – which to me indicates they want AMare to be proud to be there as a member of the Phoenix Suns…i think that ship has sailed already.

Iguodala's Arizona connection

It’s been hinted at, but I just realized that Steve Kerr probably likes Iguodala because they both went to U of A. I wonder if Iguodala would like to return to Arizona.

would the 76ers let Stoudemire go?

Since the 76ers’ ownership doesn’t care about anything except saving money, might they let Stoudemire leave for nothing later?

by species8473 on Feb 4, 2010 5:06 PM MST reply actions

According to reliable sources, yes, the sixers WANT Amare to opt out – so his public comments about not opting out may kill a potential deal.

They don’t want to be ‘boozered’ (version 2, version 1 is what he did to cleveland)

by jemagee on Feb 4, 2010 5:07 PM MST up reply actions

What losers. They would give away two of their best players for one, and then cut the one new player loose, to save money? Why don’t they buy out all their players and fill their entire team with CBA and D-league players?

by species8473 on Feb 4, 2010 5:10 PM MST up reply actions

The suns are trading Amare because they think they’ll get better talent back than Amare can provide right?

I never said it was right or wrong, but the sixers roster is poorly assembled and it needs to be reset. It’s the Island of mismatched toys in sixer land and rebuilding has to start somewhere?

by jemagee on Feb 4, 2010 5:13 PM MST up reply actions

I’v been saying it for years now

The worst part of this season (aside from Iverson and the horrible coach) is how messed up Thaddeus Young has become

by jemagee on Feb 4, 2010 5:18 PM MST up reply actions

Thats kind of what Ive been saying all along thats why I don't think it will happen.

For Instance:

JRICH + Barbs = 19.5 mill salary

Iggy + Dally = 24 Mil salary

If that was Philly’s motive to simply cut salary why wouldn’t this work? I think that they want to get something in return and not give Iggy away for nothing.

by SSOHOWARD on Feb 4, 2010 6:54 PM MST up reply actions

5 million works if the salary cap is on the high side of projections (54/55 million) but low side (50/51) isn’t enough.

NBA contracts usually aren’t ‘equal’ amounts per year.

Barbosa and richardson are on the hook for twenty one million next year. So it’s not that huge a saving for the sixers as you might think.

Also – it’s 20 million this year according to the site i like to read (http://storytellerscontracts.com/)

Additionally, Barbosa has an option for one more year (11/12) – anyone think he’ll opt out?

by jemagee on Feb 4, 2010 6:58 PM MST up reply actions

don't trade for Dalembert

I wouldn’t trade for Samuel Dalembert unless with intent to trade him ASAP, because, as Mr. Pollack notes, the Suns don’t need Samuel Dalembert. Robin Lopez is playing probably as well as Dalembert right now, is the Suns’ best center since Mark West (unless you count Cliff Robinson as a center—I don’t), and could become one of the NBA’s best young centers is he keeps playing this well. I’d rather take a chance that the Suns medical staff can rehab Elton Brand and that he wouldn’t fit in as poorly as Shaquille O’Neal did.

by species8473 on Feb 4, 2010 5:24 PM MST reply actions

Kevin Garnett isn’t that old – but he’s basketball old, he’s maybe 65% of what he was in his prime, when healthy, and he’s hardly ever healthy any more (ah the celticspocalypse is going to be fun)…Elton Brand is basketball old :)

Don’t you? The Celtics franchise has the deepest winning tradition in the NBA, and probably longest line of legendary players. It doesn’t hurt that their winning tradition is not soiled by association with Hollywood trash (Lakers) or by crass commercialism (Michael Jordan).

And as for your insults towards Chicago and LA – most people would prefer either city over Phoenix (and boston actually) so I’m not sure why you felt the need to throw that around.

Being a celtics fan is like being a yankees fan – if it’s something you choose and aren’t born into it’s just kind of bandwagony to me

Interesting...

Region has a ton to do with it, you are right. I dont know why people like teams like that. Its odd to me too. There are some instances when I think it may be appropriate but overall, I think you are right.

I also think its equally bad to jump on teams’ wagons because you HATE another team. Like all those people who liked the Red Sox just because they wanted them to be the Yanks. Or, closer to home, those people who jumped on the Celtics bandwagon because they didn’t want the Lakes to win.

Oh no, I hate the lakers and celtics because I grew up in Lower Merion (and yes I have special hate in my heart for kobe who graduated 6 years after I did)…I hate all teams from new york for the same reason…and I revel in how much the mets stink.

However, there are oddities, the owner of the sbnation sixers blog (libertyballers) grew up in Vegas, he is a cowboys, sixers, and astros fan…

the owner of one of the other very good sixers blogs (depressedfan) is a sixers, eagles and yankees fan.

And the question was asked (by me actually) being a cowboys fan is a bigger ‘traitor’ move to phiadelphia sports fans than being a yankees fan.

My sister lived in NYC for a time and became a mets fan, but fortunately she grew out of it.

I heard of this deal a while back(about a week or two ago). One of my friends knows somebody with inside sources to the team and stated that the 76ers is a very huge possibility.

The goal of our front office is to make the team better while thinking long term at the same time. Kerr has stated this. This is also the reason why we won’t trade for a good player like Jamison who would be perfect in our system; because he’s too old. We want proven good youth and expiring contracts in return.

I believe the 76ers trade is still a possibility although Amare’s recent comments can stall this deal or keep it from happening. I’m not worried about the logjam in the rotation. Hill should be getting less minutes as it is and so should J-Rich. Clark hasn’t proven anything to earn minutes this season.

Here’s what the rotation would look like for the rest of this year.

PG Nash/Dragic
SG Iggy/J-Rich
SF Hill/Dudley
PF Dalembert/Amundson
C Lopez/Fyre

Sam won’t play as many minutes as Amare. J-Rich would really be the only guy who would have to sacrifice a lot of minutes.

by Beavis 25 on Feb 4, 2010 5:54 PM MST reply actions

Keep the team together...

If Amare opts out then oh well… we offer him a competative and fair deal but not an outrageous deal. If some stupid ass team wants to come over the top of us then let them overpay for the injury risk and inconsistent player Amare is. He is good but sorry I would rather have him walk and rebuild then have him resign for the max, blow his knee out, and then be held hostage by his contract for years to come. I don’t want this team to turn into the Knicks of a few years ago.

Obviously, if a GOOD trade is there then do it. I don’t care what position the talent comes at but we need to get back something good not just some bullshit. No big expirings, 3 million dollars, and a late first as the centerpieces to the trade. No we’ll give you 3 mid-level players for your really good guy.

Starting to really dislike the same old Amare rhetoric from everyone. Lets talk about possible J-Rich deals, or the game tomorrow night, the Suns playoff chances, Heidi Klum, Marissa Miller, the new Ghostbusters game, how much the Lakers suck balls, or really anything else. Please.

by Superelkman on Feb 4, 2010 5:56 PM MST reply actions

+1 on keeping the team together, just because breaking it apart is unpredictable. Look at the Charles Barkley trade.

by species8473 on Feb 4, 2010 6:09 PM MST up reply actions

I've posted this elsewhere but this trade is FANTASTIC.

I would argue this trade makes the Suns better immediately, and in the long term.
Short Term – Nash-J-Rich-Igoudala-Frye-Dalembert is a massive improvement defensively. Iggy is massively underrated defensively, every bit the defender Marion was. And Dalembert (while not amazing) might be the perfect 5 for the Suns – a tall, athletic shot blocker who can run the floor and slow down Pau Gasol. I have no doubt that Richardson can pick up the scoring load – he is more than reading to score 20 a game, and I think Iggy can hit that too playing with Nash. The whole offense will move better with a second facilitator like Iggy (that Hill was suppose to be). And what about how stacked the second unit gets??? Gentry can sub in hockey style – Dragic, Dudley, Hill, Amundson and Lopez.
In Iggy,we can finally slow down Kobe, Roy, Paul, D-Will, etc. In Dalembert, we can deter Gasol, Bosh, Bynum, etc. I love it.

Long Term: It kills me to see Barbosa go, but for some reason I feel like he would come back when his contract is up. Anyway, I think this trade is fine long term as well.
Dalembert is only on the hook for this year and next. as is J-Rich. Combined, the Suns would have almost $25 million in expiring contracts going into a summer when teams will be FREAKING OUT about the new CBA. It will put them in an excellent position to pilfer more talent.
After that, Lopez can fit right back into the 5 slot. I know Iggy can play four, but he is more than athletic and smart enough to play 2. Why not play Clark next to Iggy? Or even have Iggy at the 3 and put Clark in the Matrix/Odom role at the 4? Their length and movement would be devastating together. Yes, Iggy is getting paid a bit much, but $12 millon dollar contracts don’t sink teams. $17 million dollar contracts for under-achieving, reconstructed knee power forwards sink franchises

I remember watching him and swearing he was the new Dr. J. Didn’t quite come true

by UASun on Feb 4, 2010 6:17 PM MST up reply actions

I totally disagree

I know people have huge crushes on Iggy but I don’t see how he is any improvement over the pre-Suns Jason Richardson…Their numbers are pretty similar and they have similar skillsets. If we unload Amare & LB, I wan’t more than just Iggy and Dalembert (Philly Management has got to be chomping at the bit for this one)…I want a draft pick and Maurice Speights thrown in.

Sad but it’s true, hard but it’s fair. Amare can put up 30 points while sleepwalking and the rest of the league knows it. His defensive woes are only illuminated because the Suns as a whole are a poor defensive team. Put him on a team like Houston and nobody cares because they have a bunch of great defenders all over the place. Steve Kerr, now is the time to stand up and say “we will not be taken advantage of in trades anymore!”

If we want to clear up a "log-jam" wouldn't we ask that Rich be included instead of Barbosa?

Then Iggy starts at the 2, Grant keeps his spot, etc.

Steve Nash, the league's MVP, is a longhaired Canadian who spoke out against the war in Iraq and reads The Communist Manifesto. Quentin Richardson declared after a game-winning shot that it "was like Hamlet. It was a suspense thriller, and I killed them at the end." Amare Stoudemire, when asked to comment on a 22-point third quarter against the Kings, said, "I've got a tendency to jump over some guys' heads and throw it down."
