Potential hiccups in Philly-Suns negotiations

ccording to an NBA source, the two teams have discussed this and other trade scenarios, although there are a few snags with the potential trade. Stoudemire's contract situation is chief among them.

<!-- ymaps begin 1 --> <!-- ymaps end 1 -->The NBA's trade deadline is Feb. 18.

Iguodala has four years and $56 million remaining on his contract; Dalembert will earn $12 million next season, after which his contract expires. Stoudemire's contract expires at season's end, but he has a player option to earn $17 million for the 2010-11 season.

The Suns are very interested in Iguodala, according to the source. But are the Sixers interested in acquiring Stoudemire, who may or may not remain with the team past the end of this season?

Contrary to what has become popular belief, the Sixers are not interested in expiring contracts, so this deal would make sense only if there were assurances that Stoudemire - rumored to be balking at the thought of joining the Sixers - would remain another season and then seriously consider re-signing.

This can be said about any team interested in Amare.

There are teams that are interested in him, yes. Why wouldn’t they be? Not every team can land LeBron or D-Wade. But the fact of the matter is, why would you trade away young talent and/or draft picks for a player you’re not even sure will resign with your team?

That’s the reason why we haven’t moved Stoudemire yet. If he still had 3 years left on his contract, at the price he’s being paid now, we would have found a suitor in a heartbeat. But, due to the fact that he can opt out this season, teams are wary.

Alright, so first we hear that the 76ers want him so he can opt out and leave them with a ton of cap room and now we hear that they want Amare to sign with them? Whats going on?

If the 76ers are willing to pay him what Kerr won’t than I believe Amare stays with the 76ers. Just remember, they can give him that extension any time.

Now if Amare does decide to stay with the 76ers than shouldn’t Speights be a part of the deal because how is he going to be their future if Amare is there?

All in all if Amar’e doesn’t except the offer he will be receiving soon from Kerr and Sarver I expect a trade. This means that a potential deal with the 76ers should include Amare and Barbosa for Iggy, Sam and Speights. The problem is Sam. He has a big contract and doesn’t really fit with this team. Just look at the possible rotations.

PG Nash\Dragic
SG J-Rich\Dudley
SF Iggy\Hill
PF Speights\Amundson\Frye
C Lopez\Frye\Dally

We become an 11 man deep team for the rest of the season and possibly next or half of next if we can’t trade him in the off-season. Obviously Dally would have to sacrifice his minutes. Perhaps we could include Frye or Amundson in the deal, so there wouldn’t be so much of a log-jam?

Trade Lou Amundson? That would be ill-advised.

Yea, I’d rather trade Fyre.

logjam?

There would be no log-jam. Dalembert is much better than Frye and Lopez. He plays solid D, is great off the glass, and if he plays within himself, he is solid on offense too.

Lou Amundson has already been a sixers, let him continue to fool Suns fans for a while and get over paid in the off season.

The sixers are spinning crap based on potential PR moves – they are using the term ‘basketball sense’ but as one astute writer in philly writes today you can spin ANY move to make basketball sense.

It’s 11 days away, that’s the biggest hold up in most trade discussions.

Lou can actually play. He was still learning the ropes of the NBA when he was with the 76ers. He’s been good for us for nearly 2 years. He’s a shorter version of Birdman pretty much and would average stats similar to his if he got more time. He’s averaging 4 and 4 in 14mpg this season. I think we will pay him about 2m$ next season. Its the same amount of cash that Birdman got.

Also the amount that we threw at the "project" for the year: Frye

Though, Channing is a better player than Amundson, and Frye will likely be making more than he is now, come contract extension time (unless the new CBA effs everything up), he’ll be making more.

I agree, I’d say that for what Amundson does on this team, right now, he warrants about a $2mil contract. Why not?

Is there really a market for Frye?

A jump shooting big man who don’t provide much of a presence in the paint?

If he was that good, Lopez wouldn’t start instead of him.

Btw, I like Lopex playing beside Amare. They feed off each other’s energies defensively and offensively.

Iggy for Amare

First of all Im a die hard Sixers fan and I have alwaysand i have always loved the Suns from their Tom chambers days. I would love for this trade to happen only if Amare stays in philly next season. Take Iggy hes a good defender and can score and he is young enough to build a team around. Also you get one of the Sixers big men to help fill the void. So this is a win win for both teams Do it……

You can’t build a team around ANdre Iguodala – if you could the sixers wouldn’t be trying to trade him.
I have no idea why a sixer fan would want Amare on the court with Elton Brand (and speights) and Dalembert.

There’s not enough minutes to go around and Amare plays less defense than Speights…
