Here's a new contest I just made up in honor of Steve Nash playing his 1000th game this Sunday.

After Suns practice today, I asked Steve Nash a question. The person that comes the closest to his actual answer wins two tickets to an upcoming Suns game.

How's that for a contest!

Here's the question:

"Do you think people appreciate how hard you work to get your body in this shape to be playing at this level?"

[Note by Seth Pollack, 03/15/10 9:07 AM MST ]

Here's the actual answer:

"I don't know. It's not really important to me. I don't think it's their job to necessarily care what it takes. For example, if it was just completely natural and I could play, that would just be my advantage. Since I have to do so much I'm not sure it is really anyone's job to care too much. But it is a lot. It is a lot."

[Note by Seth Pollack, 03/15/10 3:15 PM MST ]

After careful dilberation (and several adult beverages) the winner is numersguy70 with this entry:

“I really don’t think anyone cares.”

Congrats! I will contact him directly to work out the details.

Thanks to everyone who played.

Star-divide

Rules are simple:

1. One entry per person. No exceptions. If you post more than one response it will be deleted

2. Entries in the comments below.

3. Contest ends when tomorrow's game against the Hornets is over and Nash has finished his 1000th career game.

4. Closest to his actual quote wins as judged by panel of judges.

“you know, I don’t really know. I think it’s important that people realize the importance of health, and if my conditioning helps them to that end then I think it’s a good thing.”

My answer

“I don’t know. I just want to keep playing basketball and help my team. You know it’s the sugar diet that helped me achieve that.”

Steve Nash plays D!!

“How could anyone NOT appreciate this body?!”

my post

It’s tough, you know. As you age, it gets harder and harder to maintain your body, and I don’t think many people understand that. I’ve just been taking it year by year, watching the foods I eat, and going out there to try and play some great basketball.

I think to an extent they do but they really don’t understand what it takes to make a body look this good…

Steve Nash:

“hahaha. i think they do. there’s a reason i’m the only one using the diet and workout regimen that i do. im sure at one point in time people have tried the latest diet or workout or whatever, so they probably got a small taste of what i need to do every season.”

My teammates and the other players in the league understand what it takes to compete at this level. The fans appreciate the effort and thats rewarding to me.

quote

(most likely)
That’s not something I think about. I’d be happier if people that aren’t healthy learn from my example and others and get the most out of life.

(goofiest)
I think they do, it’s why I’m going into film after basketball. So more people can experience my awesomeness. I know dudley has the most athletic hands in the world, but I have most athletic body. I just don’t like jumping 4 feet high, I don’t want anyone to feel bad. In fact, my body is so amazing, that the nba is coming out with their first 3d poster, and yours truly will be on it!! I was going to be without a shirt, but it’s like looking at the sun, it could really damage your eyes. When I go home to my wife, she always greets me with the same statement…“Oh yeah…it’s business time”

My prediction

“I don’t know. It’s not really important to me. I don’t think it’s their job to necessarily care what it takes. For example, if it was just completely natural and I could play, that would just be my advantage. Since I have to do so much I’m not sure it is really anyone’s job to care too much. But it is a lot. It is a lot.”

Oh wait…am I too late? Bummer…

Steve Nash, the league's MVP, is a longhaired Canadian who spoke out against the war in Iraq and reads The Communist Manifesto. Quentin Richardson declared after a game-winning shot that it "was like Hamlet. It was a suspense thriller, and I killed them at the end." Amare Stoudemire, when asked to comment on a 22-point third quarter against the Kings, said, "I've got a tendency to jump over some guys' heads and throw it down."
