Game Thread: Suns vs Timberwolves

Minnesota Timberwolves at Phoenix Suns, Mar 16, 2010 8:00 PM MDT

Final - 3.16.2010 1 2 3 4 Total
Minnesota Timberwolves 33 28 27 26 114
Phoenix Suns 38 41 35 38 152

Coaches Notes:

  • After missed a few games with "flu", Darko Milicic will play and should start
  • Kevin Love will also play - he's had a sprained right foot. Love is backing up Jefferson because obviously the T-wolves have decided they can't play Love and Jefferson together. Fun times
  • Rambis said the Tucker has some good NBA skills and is a good inside playing 2/3 but his shot is off balance and he has some weaknesses in his game. He doesn't see him breaking their rotation
  • Gentry said the T-wolves do a good job in the pinch post (makes sense since Love and Jeff are both good passers) and they are good finding cutters for layups. They also like to push the ball with Flynn and Sessions when they can
  • Gentry wasn't aware that Amare had lost 28lb since the start of the season. When pressed to explain his recent high-level of play, Gentry said that they don't care "why" he's playing well as long as he continues
  • Gentry likes fried food - doesn't partake in the health food craze sweeping the Suns locker room
  • LB and Hill will play. Grant should play his normal rotation/minutes with LB trying to pick up some minutes where he can (unless it's a blow out)

Stat of the night

Only 5 teams have a winning record in every season since 04-05.

Suns, Cavs, Spurs, Mavs and Nuggets

Suns will secure their winning season w/ a W tonight

The T-wolves are a sneaky

scary team who I really think are not THAT far off from being good. If they can add a true scoring guard I think this team could contend for a playoff spot. Flynn is a jet out there and is going to blow by Mr. Nash on a few occasions. Corey Brewer is a big athletic guy who is an all around stat stuffer who may give Hill some problems and also Love and Jefferson are a handful to say the last down low…Amare will do just fine as he is much more athletic and quicker than the two but I think Lopez is going to be bossed around tonight in the post.

Also...

before the Goran Dragic experiment succeeded I was really hoping the Suns would of made a run at Sessions for there back up PG and maybe even PG of the future…He had some great games in Milwaukee last season and is a really fun player to watch run the floor.

I was thinking that as well.

I like Sessions a lot…it’s too bad he’s gone to a team that drafted two point guards in last year’s draft.

Well...

Do you ever think Rubio is ever actually going to wear a Minnesota jersey? he doesn’t want to be there and I have to imagine the fans feel disrespected by him. I think Flynn will develop into a damn good PG…maybe Jameer Nelson but a little better?

Brewer

Isn’t Corey Brewer a defensive specialist? If I thought he could shoot, I’d want him. I’ll find out whether he’s a FA this summer.

by 8472species on Mar 16, 2010 8:01 PM MDT reply actions

Brewer...

was a brick specialist when he first entered the league but his shot has defiantly improved by a lot. 13 PPG, 42% FG, 35% three…That’s not bad considering at times he is expected to burden the scoring load on a pretty horrible, young, inexperienced team.

Lopez will fair against Jefferson? Another big bodied strong post guy…It seems like every since Lopez dominated the Clippers in the first game since then people have him scouted pretty well…In that second game Kaman seemed to have his way with him.

Amundson is having a good night. From the vague descriptions of former Sun Kurt Rambis that I have heard (he left the Suns just before I became a fan), Amundson sounds like Kurt Rambis—doesn’t usually score much, but plays hard and worked his way up from obscurity.

We all want to fall in love. Why? Because that experience makes us feel completely alive, where every sense is heightened, and every emotion is magnified. Our everyday reality is shattered and we are flying into the heavens. It may only last a moment, an hour, or an afternoon, but that doesn't diminish its value, because we are left with memoriesthat we treasure for the rest of our lives.

And they played at a much higher pace

Steve Nash, the league's MVP, is a longhaired Canadian who spoke out against the war in Iraq and reads The Communist Manifesto. Quentin Richardson declared after a game-winning shot that it "was like Hamlet. It was a suspense thriller, and I killed them at the end." Damn Griffin is good

Ooh, pretty turnaround from TGriff.

And a nice blocked ’oop attempt!

Minnesota makes me sick.

Their fans must be mortified at how this game is going. We’re on for 155-160.

by keify34 on Mar 16, 2010 10:16 PM MDT reply actions

you know...

they aren’t that far off from being a decent NBA team…If they can get a true scoring number 2 to pair along with Flynn Brewer and Jefferson…and Also Rambis needs to figure out how to play Love and Jefferson together…I don’t know how he can’t get that to work.

Jefferson possibly won't be there past this year so that is another problem they'll have.

If Kahn didn’t screw up the draft so badly, there was a possibility this team could have 15-20 more wins. But that’s what happens when you employ David Kahn.

Wow! Lou Amundson might reach 20!

I hope Tucker gets at least 10
