Say it with me. Suns are the 3rd most bloody profitable NBA franchise
Fantastic article by Doug Thonus on the Bulls:
2000-2009 Chicago Bulls, a dynasty of profits
If there was a world championship for money making, the city of Chicago would bankrupt itself throwing parades for our Chicago Bulls. The Bulls may not have put all the winning pieces together on the court, but the business side is crushing the competition.
In the NBA, the Bulls are #1 over the past decade. The second place team? The Lakers. Trailing by 100 million in profits.
Bare in mind, over this stretch the Bulls made the playoffs four times and got past the first round once, while never getting past the second round. The Lakers, in a bigger market, won four titles and made it to the NBA finals two other times over this stretch. Yet, they fell 100 million short of the profit levels the Bulls achieved. How is that even possible?
| Team | 10 Year Profit | 3 Year Profit | 1 Year Profit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bulls | 474 | 165 | 51 |
| Lakers | 373 | 131 | 51 |

| Clippers | 140 | 31 | 10 |
| Cavaliers | 127 | 50 | 5 |

======
The ways the management puts it, we seem to be bleeding money and our Suns franchise is not profitable. Evidently Sarver and Kerr seems to be more interested in raising their profit margins by selling picks, dumping salary and refusing to sign our proven marque players like JJ and Amare.
How long will Suns fans put up with such nonsense?
Our window to win is this season and next season when Nash is still around with Amare.
So no more trade talks.
No more salary dumps.
And no more selling of picks.
We need to win. After all, you lucky fans in US have been paying for success for a long long time.
Anything else is not acceptable from the players and the management!

Yeah the WSJ had something similar a year ago
I emailed this to Gambo(basically in a similar “WTF?”! sort of way) and he said that these numbers don’t take into account all of the debt that Sarver took on when he bought the team from Jerry. Who knows what’s really going on.
Steve Nash, the league's MVP, is a longhaired Canadian who spoke out against the war in Iraq and reads The Communist Manifesto. Quentin Richardson declared after a game-winning shot that it "was like Hamlet. It was a suspense thriller, and I killed them at the end." Amare Stoudemire, when asked to comment on a 22-point third quarter against the Kings, said, "I've got a tendency to jump over some guys' heads and throw it down."
the Suns have had
a top 5-10 payroll ever since Sarver took over. How can you call him cheap? Sure, he hasn’t been Mark Cuban. But he’s not cheap.
lets see
what he does this offseason. If he lets the team sign a good free agent then he isn’t, but if he insist on this same team, then……………

by "good"
do you mean “expensive”? The Suns won’t be allowed to sign anyone over mid-level ($5 mill) because they’ve already spent all their money. Same as last summer, in which they used that $5 mill to sign 2 players: Grant Hill and Channing Frye. Given the production and minutes these two offer, would you agree those are “good” free agent signings?
On the other hand, trades are a better way to improve the overall talent on the team, but that’s more Kerr’s job than Sarver’s because the money would have to be even.

Too late to change the stupid twitter name. Did it as a joke to my teenager, but now I'm hooked on the news-feed aspect of twitter.
Funny.
That kind of thinking led to selling draft picks and other “cheap” behaviors. Most of the Suns major upgrades and downgrades in the Sarver administration have been via trade.

I've looked at these numbers before
there’s a lot not accounted for in their accounting…

Not calling Sarver cheap. I'm asking why we need to sell picks, dump salary, trying to go cheap
if our franchise is not loss making…
Not calling him cheap in that I am questioning why is he constantly trying to cut corners
with this team.
very much in agreeance with your concern!

Yes, we aren't that deep. Will be good if we have a proven wing defender or a vet 6-man...
Drew Gooden or Marcus Camby would have been nice…
Marcus Camby makes 9 million
Who would you trade from the Suns for that amount of salary, whose minutes would you give him, and still believe we are a better team (an actual trade that fits the salary cap)?
And then Gooden: there’s a reason he’s on his 985th team in the last 3 years.

If Sarver lost money with his finance business, he should be cutting pay roll with that business
Rather than screwing around with a successful franchise like the Suns.
The Suns has a 10-year profit of 275 million. How much debt did Sarver has to bear?
Anyone has any articles or research on this?
As a fan....
I don’t care if Sarver loses the shirt off his back, or makes billions of dollars, Just WIN A DAMN CHAMPIONSHIP!
I don’t care about the contract, the luxury tax, the new CBA, or any of that “Owner” stuff, it’s not important to me. What is important is the Suns on the basketball court and getting W’s. That is all.
/rant over.
