Who Is Your Favorite Sun?

I love this kid's upside and attitude. And speed. (Photo by Max "I Got Jacked by Ak and Lived to Tell the tale" Simbron)

The NBA's most watchable team has had a lot of heroes this season. Role players like Lightning Lou and Dudz bring it every night. Amare has been bringing his gorilla game for the majority of the season. Steve "Nashty" Nash has been his typical self. J-Rich has had some strong games and seems to be the key to the PHAT W's, and Fropez and the Slovenian Sniper have been huge surprises. Grant Hill has shredded his birth certificate while Channing Frye is doing his best to rid himself of his "soft" reputation.

Leandrinho has been injured for much of the season but we cannot forget his Avatar purpleness (was that purple? I'm color blind) And let us not forget Jarron Collins' amazing physique (sarc).

And don't we love the quickly balding T-Griff (even if he refuses to shave his head)?

So let's hear it-who's your favorite Sun of the 2009-10 season, and why?

I love Grant Hill

I remember when I heard we signed him. Love the guy, great person and a great athlete. He is great for this team!

I was thinking about this the other day

but I don’t actually have a favourite Sun anymore. I love the second unit guys (not in a gay way), and you gotta love Nash (in a gay way) for the way he plays the game of basketball.

I’d say on the court if I had to pick anyone it’s Hill because I miss the 90’s era and seeing him, a guy from that era, play so well right now at age 37 is amazing.

Off court I’d go for Dudley cos of his tweets.

I'm going with Lopez, followed closely by Dragic

Mainly because they’re the future of our team, so I love seeing positive development out of our youngsters. I think Lopez’s ceiling is higher, so he gets my vote for #1.

Outside of that, I like Grant Hill a lot. He’s such a smart player, and is a stand-up guy.

by jburning on Mar 8, 2010 6:34 PM MST reply actions

Gotta go Nash and Hill tied for first and the young guns

Nash simply because he is still beating the odds, and is a fierce competitor, along with being a solid around person.

Grant because of what he brings to the table. He brings it every night, and along with Nash provides a great role model for the young guys to look up too. Not just a basketball role model, but as a role model of what it is like to be a good guy.

Young guns because they are just so surprising, and playing so key. It’s great to see young guys developing in Phoenix, and makes you look ahead for a bright future. Plus watching Dragic and Lopez have beastly games this year is pretty sweet.

Trying to rep Canada on the Bright Side.

by Willman on Mar 8, 2010 6:54 PM MST reply actions

It's Nash, then Stoudemire.

I love the young guys…I really do.

But the way Nash has played through his injuries, knowing that he’s so vital to the team, and not complained about it? That’s the sign of a true professional. And every time I see a true professional in the sports world today, it’s a sight to behold.

Amare has been a true professional as well. Through the myriad of trade scenarios, the lack of security offered by the front office, hell, you name it, Amare has been great. He’s responded well to his 1 rebound/4th quarter benching, and has been absolutely on fire since. He’s been such a big reason we’ve been keeping ourselves relevant in the Western Conference.

Aside from that, I love Dragic and Lopez for their emergence, Hill for continuing to drink Sprite, and JRich for handling the pressures of having a huge contract, not playing up to par at some times, and blowing a game-tying dunk. He still comes out and plays his heart out. Gotta love it.

(Basically…I just love this team.)

Im so eager to see whether Earl will be good tho

Lopez and Dragic have just exploded with there development this year but yet earl clark looks as hopeless as he did at the start of the season. my question is y? i understand rolo and dragic have a years experience on clark but its as sif our team does not want to even try with clarks development? like is our coaching staff and players really working with clark to help him develop like they obviously have been with dragic and rolo?
Or am i to eager and should we really be waiting till next year to see some serious effort in the development of clark?

by bassy500 on Mar 9, 2010 1:38 AM MST up reply actions

you should wait till next year

Clark is ubertalented, and currently a black hole on offense by shooting 20-ft fallaway, turnaround jumpshots whenever he touches the ball. he just needs a summer to settle down and flow within the offense. Once that happens, it will be tough to take him out.

Nash

I love Nash. He’s the reason I watch basketball.

Saint Nash

I know it’s boring and normal, but i cant help but be enamored by Steve Nash in every waking moment he is on the court.

In the past few years we may have had the joy of watching one of the greatest point guards ever. He may not be a Sun to too much longer, but until then and probably long after he will remain my favorite.

1. Captain Canada

He’s just amazing. When he’s healthy, there’s not one game where he doesn’t amaze me in some way.

2. Lightning Lou

3… is a mix between JYD, Frosty, Hill, and Barbosa

This is the 1st time since the 04-05 season where I actually like everybody on the team. If Barbosa can comeback strong than we will have a very solid 10-man rotation going into the playoffs. In fact if that is the case than the only thing left for this team to improve is their focus and intensity on the defensive end. We do that and we become contenders.

As for my favorite player on the Suns. I’d have to say Nash of course. I like everyone, but Dudley is probably my #2 choice. He doesn’t have a very high ceiling like many athletes, but unlike many athletes he will reach it( if he hasn’t already) through, heart, passion, hard-work and effort.

by Beavis 25 on Mar 8, 2010 8:50 PM MST reply actions

As a favorite personality

Dudz hands down. The kid is hilarious. As a player I have to go with Nash, since he’s the engine. But Dragon is flat out electrifying at times. Of course the same can be said for STAT and Rich. But then you go tt he role players like Lou who is always there when you need him. Channing’s shot from the top of the key is gorgeous in an effortless way. Grant Hill defies logic, age, etc. The whole team gives me chills when their rolling on all cylinders.

I voted for Grant

because Steve was getting too many votes ;)

He is just amazing, considering he’s the closest to my age and I have to work to loosen my back every morning. How does he do it? I pray, pray, pray he is 100% healthy for the playoffs. In his first year, he pulled his abdomen right before they started and then last year we didn’t make it. The poor guy has never made it to the second round in his whole career.

It's so funny

How people in society always root for the underdog. I voted for Dragic for the same reason. Obvoiusly Nash is going to be the most loved player, but IMHO polls like these have to have the “Besides Nash” clause.

by SunsFTW on Mar 8, 2010 10:57 PM MST up reply actions

Yup..

I think we should do it with the besides nash to find out the 2nd fav.

I see that Lou Amundson is easily the second most popular Sun in this poll. I am proud to be one of his voters.

I voted for Dragic

Because before this season started i thought he was an NBA bust, someone who didn’t have what it takes to be a player in this league let alone backup to M.V.Steve.
But Dragic’s game has come so far since last season that he has won over all doubters and become, in my mind, a worthy sucessor to Nash and someone who i actually look forward to seeing when his rotation comes around.

Great work Goran, keep it up and you will be in the hearts of many suns fans.

by Chucko667 on Mar 8, 2010 10:07 PM MST reply actions

Aparently Dragic

Is the 2nd most popular Suns player besides the great Steve Nash. I am inclined to agree with the masses. Good for Frosty. Seth, be sure to let him know that we love him so ;)

by SunsFTW on Mar 8, 2010 10:53 PM MST reply actions

odd

I like Dragic as much as anyone (even if he’s not the new Jeff Hornacek), and expect him to be the next leader of the Suns, but I’m not sure why he’s substantially more popular than Lou Amundson.

by 8472species on Mar 9, 2010 12:08 AM MST up reply actions

because Lou has small hands?

I became a Suns' fan because of Nash

so, he’s still and always will be my number 1, but Dragic comes second (in the next 2-3 years, he’d be my 1). What are the odds my two favs are leading the poll

by jatrex4suns on Mar 9, 2010 1:06 AM MST reply actions

If

Barbosa was playing and healthy this year I have to believe he would have a lot more votes…What short memories we have. I voted for Frye….He’s not my favorite but the whole “I didn’t throw a punch” thing made me laugh. Plus, I’ve followed him his whole career and EVEN HAVE A SUBSCRIPTION TO CHANNINGFRYE.COM. Yeah…It’s about me and like 8 other people who are all of his family.

You all read this? Suns play dirty???

Finally, opponents who thrive on offensive rebounds (Al Jefferson, Nick Collison, etc.) no longer feast on the Suns’ soft underbelly. To the contrary, the Suns now are getting underneath the opposition’s skin, and the other night, members of the Pacers noticed the difference in attitude. Some even called the Suns a “dirty” team.

“That’s the biggest compliment we can (hear),” Gentry said. " . . . because God knows Grant Hill and Channing Frye, and those guys are really thuggish guys. I find it humorous."

I love that he brings a swagger, an aggressiveness, and a li’l “street cred” to this team (but not in a thuggish way)! I’ve always liked his game and now that he’s actually showing the effort to crash the boards and play d, I’m hoping he’s going to remain in the Valley!

so no surprise that dragon is no2…

It's been a long time

Since the Suns have had a big guy wreaking havoc down low. I can’t even think of anyone since Barkley. Robin could be that guy, I think. I’ve always been a fan of post players, probably because I was always a post-up type of kid when I was a grade-schooler/high schooler playing ball.

by jburning on Mar 9, 2010 8:47 AM MST up reply actions

Grant

have to appreciate his dedication and love for the game. All the injuries this guy could of walked away from the game. Celtics made an offer and Grant made his decision to come back to the Suns, I respect that.
Dragic is my second choice, I hope he turns into a solid point guard when Nash moves on.

by Grockcubs on Mar 9, 2010 9:15 AM MST reply actions

He is doing more to earn it than he used to.

Agreed.

They need to franchise the black Jesus.

The team need to become the Stoudemire-Nash Suns, instead of the Nash-Stoudemire Suns.

Lopez's "rage"

What’s this talk about Robin Lopez having rage? Someone said it here, and Bickley said in his column today that Lopez is channeling his inner rage, and suggested that this is because he was “mocked” last year for his poor rookie season (and for having a funny voice and for reading comic books—someone must have been desperate for things to make fun of). If he’s that angry, he must mave been mocked pretty badly. Or did he come from a bad background?

by 8472species on Mar 9, 2010 9:46 AM MST reply actions

Amar'e

I’m guessing all the Max stuff unfortunately turned some away from him. But like Eddie Johnson says on the broadcasts, he’s got one of the smoothest looking jump shots in the game, looks like they’re all going in. And then if you come up on him, you end up on a poster like Richard Jefferson!

GRANT HILL

I think he plays well beyond on what the suns are paying him.

sa win-win situation for hill and the suns.

he helped the suns to win a lot of games, pretty consistent. a veteran presence and a role model.

averaging almost 20pts for the last 4 games for a 37 yr-old SF is amazing. hope he will have a big game against the lakers. I’m sure he will guard kobe, and it will requires a lot energy, alot of toughness, so hopefully a 15 pt game will be a decent for him. but I’m looking for more.

ow, he still has the ups,

he just dunked against boozer,!!!!!!!!

go suns. go hill still my favorite.

J-Rich

Gotta say, J-Rich has won me over. I wasn’t a fan of the Diaw-Bell trade to start with, and after J-Rich’s run in with local law enforcement at the beginning of his stint here I was pretty down on the guy.

But, the guy has adapted his game. Evolved.

Instead of being a wing shooter / slasher type, a la last season, he’s become a reliable elbow and post passer and scorer, anchoring the second unit half-court offense (and sometimes the 1st unit). Now he’s creating shots for his teammates.

And he’s getting up and down in transition. =)
