Around SBN: Jeremy Lin And How The Pac-12 Missed Him

Western Conference Playoff Report: April 1

Tonight every WC playoff squad won with the exception of the Los Angeles Lakers and the idle Denver Nuggets. The Suns kept pace with a win in New Jersey. Memphis all but had it sewn up against the Mavericks in the 4th but blew the lead and later the game in OT. The Mavs must face the Orlando Magic at home on the second night of back to backs Thursday.

Wednesday Western Conference Results:

Atlanta Hawks 109 Los Angeles Lakers 92-The Lakers lose their second straight on the road. They finished out a 5 game trip 2-3. LA shot 45%, the Hawks 54% and Atlanta's bench outscored the Lakers 48-22. (Game Recap)

Oklahoma City Thunder 109 Boston Celtics 104-Kevin Durant tossed in 37 points and 8 boards while Russell Westbrook dropped in 21 and 10 as the Thunder won despite allowing Boston to shoot 59% from the field. (Game Recap)

Dallas Mavericks 106 Memphis Grizzlies 102 (OT)- The Grizz blew a 13 point lead with 4 minutes left and Dirk Nowitzki made 6 of his last 8 shots to lead the Mavs. One more Grizz loss or Spurs win eliminates Memphis from the playoff hunt. (Game Recap)

Portland Trail Blazers 118 New York Knicks 90-  The Blazers balanced attack destroyed the Knicks. No surprises here. LaMarcus Aldridge shot 10-12 from the field for 21 points. (Game Recap)

San Antonio Spurs 119 Houston Rockets 102- George Hill scored 30, and the Rockets shot an impressively awful 41% from the field. Ginobili came back to add 18 and 10 assists, and Timmay added 17 and 10 boards.  (Game Recap)

Phoenix Suns 115 New Jersey Nets 105- Steve Nash went 24 and 14, Jason Richardson scored 23, and Jared Dudley anchored the bench with a perfect 5 of 5 from the field. The Notorious ITP has your recap right here.

Utah Jazz 128 Golden State Warriors 104- This was over before the tip. Boozer had 25 and Deron Williams went crazy with 19 assists. (Game Recap)

Can't wait for this road trip to be over

111-105, 112-105 and 115-105. Playing just enough defense to outscore the other team by a couple possessions, nursing Nash through injury and such.

These 3 teams were some of the worst offensive teams in the entire league, and we let each score 105 points. I think that’s a fail of concentration as much as anything.

Once we’re back to games of import and potential loss (starting Saturday in Mil), then the team will fire itself back up again. Til then, I expect a 113-105 win over Detroit, just to be consistent.

(please don’t think I’m complaining at all – everyone needs a breather schedule sometimes, and a potential 10-game win streak is awesome)

Nash looked great last night

Or better than great. I think his cold was the worst thing going on, until he rolled his ankle with 20 secs left. It didn’t look too bad but you know how those things go…

Can we just leave the standings as they are right now?

Am I the only one who wants that? I think Denver is def beatable without K-Mart and they’re struggling overall, plus we’d get home court. Also I want to avoid the Lakers in the second round, even though they never looked more beatable than now. Of the 7 WC foes Denver is definetely the weakest one right now. Freeze the standings please!

yeah, I'd rather have the 2 or 3

On second thought...

I’d like to get the 2nd seed, even if it means getting the Blazers. I just want to avoid the Lakers as much as possible. The 2nd seed allows that and it gives us home court until the potential WC finals against the fakers. I say go for it!

Thinking im going to stop hoping for anything

playoff seeding related. No point in it. If the Suns surpass Dallas, then they deserve the 2 and whoever they face in the first round.

What I will hope for, however is a healthy, prompt return of Robin Lopez. Things will be awful difficult without him (obviously)

Deron Williams is a total beast. I don’t know how one defends him.

Yeah, you are probably right

At this point seeding doesn’t matter much. The WC is just crazy right now and all the 8 playoff teams will have a chance at beating each other. Let’s keep winning and we’ll see what happens.

Obviously withotu Robin it will be really tough…hope he gets back in time.

Same with the 3rd seed.

3rd seed avoids the 1st seed until then as well

I know what you’re saying—it’s all a question of which round we want the Suns to face the Lakers in. I’ve just been afraid that the further the Lakers go, the more fired up they’ll get and the less slothful and arrogant they will be. I want them to face the Suns playing as poorly as they are recently.

Portland/Den should be a good game tonight

Only because its in Den and PTL played last night, albeit total destruction of the Knicks.

Portland is starting to play up to their potential lately...

While Denver is playing like an Eastern Conference 7th seed…I like Portland in this game…

Prediction = No George Karl, No Kenyon Martin & No Chance for the Nugs… Portland 109-94…

Say…I was thinking about Steve Nash’s strengths and weaknesses, and had an idea. He and Jeff Hornacek, my favorite player and the second-best shooter in Suns history after Nash as far as I can tell, should have a charity shooting contest sometime.

(I forgot about Walter Davis, who retired before I became a fan. He’d probably also be in this shooting duel.)

At least the Suns are clutch without him.

If only because we have been playing contenders for the Toilet Bowl Trophy recently...

We need him for any success in the playoffs..

I like that! Give the first Toilet Bowl Trophy to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Then give the second to David Stern.

I like playing ESPN's playoff simulator

Out of like 30 tries, 2 of them have come up with the Suns being the NBA champs.

by jburning on Apr 1, 2010 12:54 PM MDT reply actions

And oddly enough

The simulator has us upsetting the Lakers in the conference finals and/or second round a lot of the time.

by jburning on Apr 1, 2010 12:56 PM MDT up reply actions

Maybe it knows the Suns are clutch and are hungrier than the Lakers.

by 8472species on Apr 1, 2010 1:36 PM MDT up reply actions

That's funny...

Every time I run my simulator, the Lakers – Suns first playoff game gets postponed becuse the refs can’t get David Stern to stop swinging off Kobe’s nuts…

They say it is a medical condition…..
