[Podcast] SMOL: Why the Suns want Portland, and previewing Denver at Phoenix

Portland was already without Greg Oden and Joel Pryzbilla, and now Brandon Roy (torn meniscus) might not be available for the playoffs. That has Matt wanting a 3-6 matchup between Phoenix and Portland in the worst way.

The Suns need to look to their own games, though, and that means beating a Denver team on the second night of a back-to-back. While 'Melo is back this time, Matt will be watching the battle of backups (Goran Dragic vs. Ty Lawson).

Who has the better backup point guard? Can the Suns win out tonight and tomorrow in Salt Lake City? And should Robin Lopez come back in the middle of a series if he's not in top shape? E-mail your input to sevenminutesorless@fanster.com, or comment below, and hear it addressed this week.

Seven Minutes or Less is a Phoenix Suns podcast for the fans, by the fans, in seven minutes or less. Saturday features a full 24-minute shot-clock for the show, with a more in-depth look at the Suns, including responses to e-mail questions/comments from fans and listeners. If your comment/question is good, you could be asked to make an appearance on the show.

Collison would've had my vote...

but since he wasn’t included, I voted for Goran…(deja vu!)

Sorry for being difficult on your polls today man, this is the same scenario that happened in your “Nash-or-nothing” thread…LOL

The only reason I would vote Darren Collison right now, is he was able to step in for CHRIS PAUL while he was injured much of this season, and fill his shoes quite well! That is a tremendous task for a rookie back-up that is certainly worthy of mention. Collison doesn’t play like a rookie whatsoever with his court presence, and he’s a great athlete as well. He’s a special player and a very talented back-up who could easily take over the reigns as a starting point guard for most of the teams in the league

However, I do think Goran may have more upside than Collison, and he would be my second pick overall as it stands right now. Goran is still developing, and when it’s all said and done, he may turn out to be the best one in the group.

very biased..

haha, i’m a big Suns fan, but the poll is wayyyy biased. you omitted a LOT of good back up PGs. not great, but good.

orlando – jason williams
boston – nate
wizards – livingston (though he’s starting nowadays)
twolves – sessions
spurs – george hill
cavs – delonte (can play point)
warriors – watson

Lol

Trust me, I know I could’ve put more. That would’ve made an huge poll though. Plus, other than Jason Williams, I think your other nominees aren’t as good as the ones already listed.

haha

Sessions is a backup on the worst team in the west, Livingston was ok until the incident with his knee, and Hill is a shooting guard handling the ball. That’s my take on it, anyway

actually, I would have liked

a poll that listed all the backups the fans have been begging the Suns to sign and/or keep for years, compared to Goran

Tyronn Lue
Anthony Johnson
Sean Singletary
DJ Strawberry
Jason Williams

I know there’s more, but I can’t think of them at this time…
