Amare Extension Talks Open Again
"We want to keep him," Kerr told FanHouse at Suns practice Friday. "I don't ever talk about specifics of contract negotiations, but I can tell you that we'd like to keep him. We're working on that, and we're hopeful that he's going to be here a long time."
Stoudemire's agent, Happy Walters, acknowledged the talks as well.
"We've been having ongoing discussions and talks for a while, but it's the playoffs," he told FanHouse by phone. "Everyone is trying to focus on that. The team is the most important thing."

No-brainer
All projections I’ve seen. point to a precipitous drop in Suns fortunes if Amare’s services are not retained.
Not to mention that there are no teams out there with money to pay him that have better championship chances than the Suns.
Can’t you see a team with
C Lopez
PF Amare
SF Clark
SG JRich
PG Dragic
in about 3 years?

Sadly, no
I don’t think JRich will be resigned honestly. He may even be traded this offseason.
R U ORNG?
I was one
that wanted him traded. We should see this kind of play more often. If he goes back to 15 ppg, and one or two bonehead plays a game, then yeah, trade him.

I say we keep him if we could sign him for 6-8 per year. He is worth that.

JRich is probalby going to command a salary of around 10 million a year...especially with his performance in this years playoffs,,

I'd love to have J-Rich back
For a 3-year extension that started at $10m and declined by a mil each year, or, if push came to shove, stayed static.

It really is a no brainer to bring back Amare; between Stat and Lopez we have a good, relatively young front court that can help carry a team for years to come. If Earl continues to develop I can see him stepping in to fill Hill“s shoes.
That being said, we need to shift our focus to the back court. J-Rich is getting older and is not the answer at SG. Honestly, I could see Barbs taking over if we get a strong defensive PG. With Nash back there, an undersized 2 is way too big of a liability, but it we had a stopper at point, we could afford to give up size.
I see signing Sergio Rodriguez to be the answer there. Give him a year to develop moreu nder Nash and I think he could be special. Replacing Nash will be impossible, but we msut take proactive steps to help ease the transition.
Sergio Rodriguez is not the answer
the man can’t even play regular minutes for D’Antoni, who had NO PGs worth starting on his team. Dragic is the answer. Not saying Dragic is all-star quality (he’s not), but that he’s a good playmaker who can shoot and run a team when given the chance (which LB does not give him a chance to do). We need a multi-talented SG next to him, all-star quality (like Iguodala?). With that, along with Dragic, Clark, Amare and Lopez we could beat anyone.

I like Sergio quite a bit
Steve Nash, the league's MVP, is a longhaired Canadian who spoke out against the war in Iraq and reads The Communist Manifesto. Quentin Richardson declared after a game-winning shot that it "was like Hamlet. It was a suspense thriller, and I killed them at the end." Amare Stoudemire, when asked to comment on a 22-point third quarter against the Kings, said, "I've got a tendency to jump over some guys' heads and throw it down."
Amare's best chance for max money and a championship is here
Robin is a great pairing with Amare. Almost custom-made.

It's a no-brainer for most of us...
THe question is will the Suns management fork out the money???

I think at this point, there's no other choice
I was an Amare-hater, so to speak, and even I think they have to get it done now.
Of course I want to keep Amare... I've been saying that all along.
Of course you need to pay him. That being said, I am a little superstitious about the timing.
We are playing well right now and I just have this fear (rational or not) that if he signs during the playoffs that it could disrupt the team mojo. I’d prefer to wait till end of playoffs — of course Amare’s agent is probably going to be working Kerr while the going is good.
lightning striking twice
remember the last time we signed Amare to a big money contract? Maybe they should do some MRIs and get a good opinion on how the microfracture is holding up.

good point

I don't want to even consider this...
THe Suns are looking good for next year.. real good!! To sign Amare to a lengthy (and costly) extension and have his knee fold up like a house of cards would definitely set us back…

If this goes through
And it’s look more and more likely the Suns will extend him, then Pat Riley and Dwyane Wade will be two very unhappy people. Both of them are unhappy with Beasley right now and want to ship him out of town. Back around trade deadline time, they could have shipped him to AZ for Stoudemire, but NOOOO that was too much to ask. Now, Beasley’s dead weight and STAT might re-sign here instead of Miami.
they will prob get Bosh
who is not as good as Amare, but still is all-star quality

I can see Bosh going to the Thunder
If that happens … wow. Durant, Westbrook, Green, Harden, Bosh … yikes.
I don't see Bosh going to OKC
They like Jeff Green as their four…

Bosh sees himself as a #1
He’d be #2 to Durant in OKC. I actually think he is going to Chicago. He would be perfect next to Noah and with Rose. Whereas in Miami, Wade is the king. Bosh doesn’t work with Wade for the same reason Amare wouldn’t work with him.

thats too logical from the outside looking in
but I don’t see it happening. After committing so hard to their current team… if any big free agents were signed, I think it would be a defensive center

An interesting quote I found:
http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/04/nba-playoffs-saturday-is-the-last-stand.php
One sentence in particular stands out:
A loss tonight would mean three in a row, headed back to Phoenix for an elimination game, potentially coinciding with the announcement of an extension for Amar’e Stoudemire.
i wanted Amare traded, but now I want him signed
I’ve decided that a 5-yr extension is worth it, even if he only plays 3.5 of those years. When he IS healthy, he’s perfect next to Robin.

In the grand scheme of things is a 5 year 90 mil contract that out of whack for Amare..
With the good news on the projected salary cap, he will get that kind of money on the open market…Wo else can we get for less that could play so comlimentary next to Lopez???
"The art of war is simple enough. Find out where your enemy is. Get at him as soon as you can. Strike him as hard as you can, and keep moving."

I know this is stupid
but is there any correlation, maybe, to the extension talks and Amare’s declining rebounding numbers in the first round? I know he’s playing really good defense otherwise, but…

I think that has more to do with the absence of Robin...
Lopez boxes out and tips a lot of balls which enabled Amare to get those greater board numbers…
At least I hope that is the case and not him getting complacent because he figures a deal is imminent..That would definitely suck…
