Brotha, can you spare 6 mil? (poll)

Channing Frye is worth more than 2 million a year.

At least that's what HE thinks, and apparently the Suns feel the same.   But how much more?  3 mil a year? 4 mil?  6 mil?

I don't know about you, but this quote rubs me the wrong way.

"We're definitely tearing that up and getting me something new," Frye said of the contract he signed in July. "I can not come back on that. It was awesome and it was a lovely amount of money. It's probably been the best year of my career and, go figure, it's my contract year. I wasn't playing for a contract but, go figure, it is."

The first thing that came to my mind: Tim freakin' Thomas

(a quick poll below)

Remember the spring of 2006, when the Suns were rumbling through the playoffs and all 3pt-shooting C Tim Thomas could talk about was much he wanted to stay with the Suns, and that he'd sign a reasonable contract to do so.

Next thing you know, the Clippers are offering $24 million.  Guess what the Suns offered?  3-yrs, 12 mill.  Which was about right.  In fact, maybe even a little high.  So he leaves the best thing that EVER happened to him, to sign with the Clippers.  The Clippers?  Really?  And that's the last anyone heard of ol' TT.  I mean, come on.  Did you know that Thomas is actually on the Mavs roster this year?  I'll bet half the guys on the Mavs don't know this.  And what were his stats in ANY year since he left the Suns?  Hmm?

Why am I comparing Frye to Thomas, anyway?

Frye's vitals: 6'11", 248 lbs, position for other teams: PF, position for Suns: C

Thomas' vitals: 6'10", 230 lbs, position for other teams: PF, position for Suns: C

Frye's stats this season: 11.2 pts, 5.3 rebs and 2.1 3ptrs/game on 43% shooting

Thomas' stats in 2006: 11.0 pts, 4.9 rebs,  and 1.7 3ptrs/game on 43% shooting

Channing is younger, slightly bigger, slightly better in each category.  But basically the same player.  And this summer, someone is likely going to offer him a full midlevel deal because they want his versatility, and they see he has a future.  Hopefully Channing doesn't take that bait.

3 yrs, 3-4 mil each.  That's Channing's value ceiling, IMO.

But if someone offers 6 mil a yr?  Goodbye Channing.  Enjoy the money.

Before you go though, hit us a game-tying 3ptr against the Lakers ok?
