I can not imagine a better way to exorcise past demons against the Spurs than the way the Suns just did. All of us Suns fan would have been happy with just a series win, but the way the Suns did it seemed like the perfect revenge. Every game in this series would have been won by the Spurs in the past. They were always the team that would hang around and hang around until they finally would just out-execute the Suns down the stretch. This time it was the Suns showing poise in the 4th Quarter, not letting early leads get them down. They were truly the better team and it showed.
The past is filled with a laundry list of excuses and it seems like the Suns crossed every one off the list: Duncan hits a three, Steve Nash is forced to sit out because of a bloody face, Popovich always killing momentum with timely time outs and hack-a-shaq tactics, a questionable Donaghy-reffed Game 3 in 2007. WEll you know what?? Duncan hits his three, Steve Nash gets cut up like a boxer and his eye is swollen shut, Popovich tries to hack-a-lou (The Spurs poor FT shooting was karma from the basketball gods for those tactics)...None of it mattered! Even when officiating seemed questionable at times, Nash would be there to calm his teammates down. I imagine he told them "Shake it off, we're better than them, we don't need calls." Gentry outcoached Popovich. Our Big 3 outclutched their Big 3. The Suns just simply outplayed them.
Revenge is always sweet, but I can't even imagine a better way to obtain it than the Suns just did.
