Hello everyone. The key matchup will be Gasol versus Amar'e. Gasol is one of the best pick 'n roll defenders so it will be difficult for the Suns to get easy scores like they did against the Spurs. Phoenix has to put on a shooting exhibition to have a chance in this series. They have to play like the Golden State Warriors a few years back when they upset Dallas in six games. Incidentally, J-Rich was on that team. I actually prefer Steve running pick 'n rolls with Frye since he'll probably be defended by Bynum who is not a strong pick 'n roll defender but Frye really has to have the perimeter game working to force one of the bigs out of the lane so there's room to operate inside. Problem the Suns will have is that when Odom is in the game, it will be difficult to get anything done inside with three bigs in there. Here are some suggested matchups:
Nash on Fisher
Amar'e on Bynum
Frye on Gasol
J-Rich on Artest
When Odom enters the game for Artest, Gentry needs to counter by bringing Lopez in so he can guard Bynum and switch Frye to Odom since Frye can guard Odom more effectively than Lopez or Amar'e. I prefer the Suns to have guys out there who can shoot so perhaps if Lopez is not utilized, Gentry can put Dudley or Hill on Odom. Either way, Suns need to pack it inside and force LA into jumpshots to have a chance. They also need to team rebound since Gasol, Bynum, and Odom are all very good offensive rebounders, especially Gasol (just ask OKC). The key is for Coach Gentry to put in place the matchups that give the Suns the best chance to be successful. Hope the Suns can steal game 1 since that's the easiest game to take for the road team. Suns need to take advantage of early offense to get high percentage looks. Go Suns!
