NBA Playoff Nightcap: May 17th Edition

FINALLY we have a game.  If you had to press me for an answer, I'd have guessed the last Suns game was in October against the Warriors or something.  Get it?  It's been a long time.  It really has felt a bit like a mini-off-season.  I don't know how much hype and BS you guys can take, but my tolerance is relatively low.  No more talking -- time for the Suns and Lakers to lace 'em up.

In case you forgot what basketball looked like at all, the Celtics and Magicians began their Eastern Conference Finals series yesterday afternoon.  Yet there wasn't enough basketball on to keep me from having to see Just Wright last night with my girlfriend (Note to the youngsters reading this ... very good to stash up all the goodwill you can during off-seasons or mini-off-seasons.  Trust me).  If you're looking for a review I'll say this: it was definitely a movie with actors and everything.  I believe it even had a plot.  Though getting to see Dwight Howard, Dwyane Wade, Elton Brand, and Rajon Rondo "act" was pretty awesome, by far the highlight was a voice message towards the end of the movie from someone purporting to be Aaron Nelson of the Phoenix Suns (it was part of the plot since Queen Latifah was a physical therapist... don't ask).  I didn't stay for the credits, so I don't know if it was actually him, but why wouldn't it be ... right?  I've now decided Seth should ask him this question since the Google machine proved fruitless (unless one of you knows and I've just missed this note).

Thursday May 13th Playoff Results:

Boston Celtics 92 Orlando Magicians 88 (Recap)Unblemished no more.  Call it rust on the part of the Magic or whatever you like, but Boston absolutely dominated Orlando for three quarters on their way to a victory that looks closer with its final score than it actually was.  Orlando has played just 8 games in the last month but I doubt they are going to be big on excuses for their Game 1 loss.  Although most had written the Celtics off for dead (from a championship contender standpoint), they knocked off the top-seeded Cavs and have now stolen home court advantage from Orlando.  Boston led by 9 at half and although the Magic cut the lead to 3 early in the third quarter, the Celtics used a 22-5 run to take a 20-point lead -- which would dip to just 16 going into the fourth.  Though Orlando battled back in the final quarter, they couldn't complete the comeback.  Ray Allen led Boston with 25 points while Paul Pierce chipped in 22.  Rasheed Wallace was the only other Celtic in double figures, with 13.  Vince Carter had 23 for the Magic who also got 20 from Jameer Nelson.  Yet, Rashard Lewis hit for just 6 points -- including 0/6 from long range -- and though Dwight Howard had a double-double (13/12), he got the points on just 3/10 shooting.  The loss snapped a 14-game winning streak for the Magic which stretched all the way back to April 2nd.

Conference Finals Series Standings:

(1) Lakers v. (3) Suns: 0-0

(2) Magic v. (4) Celtics: 1-0 Celtics

Monday May 17th Playoff Game:

Game 1  - Suns @ Lakers:  The Suns haven't won at Staples against the Lakers since January 17, 2008 (2 weeks before Pau Gasol arrived). It's only been 4 games, but three of them were decided by 19 or more points.  No time like the present to stop that streak, eh?

Check out some Grant Hill in his prime dunking on people's faces.  Good times.
