CHANNING FRYE
Every player has made a very good season. But now is playoff time and is time to differentiate between good and great players.
There is a player that is failing everyone: coaches, teammates and fans in general. That player is Channing Frye.
Frye is in the last year of his contract and has announced that he will opt out of his contract. But in the way he is playing in playoff is very difficult to get a big improvement.
Against the Blazers he shoots 26.6% from 3. He improved against the Spurs (54.5%) thanks to the 2nd game( 5 of 6 ), but against the Lakers he has been an autentic disaster; we all know their %.
Pressure? Dizziness?
The question is:

If he opts out then we should NOT give a raise...
If anything we can give him a 2 year contract for maybe $2 million a year if what he wants is more security. But I don’t think that he is a player that will be worth a big contract at all. He works well in our system but it seems like he can not perform under pressure and that is what the playoffs are all about. He did well agains San Antonio because we were dominating that series so there was really no pressure.
I rather have another big man like Lopez who can defend the post and get some rebounds. I know those are hard to find but that is what we need.
Agreed. If Frye demands to much we should let him go.
I think Matt Bonner would fit in just as well as Frye, so we can use him for leverage.
Even if we get neither, we can still keep our 3pt depth by picking up Raja Bell. It may seem overkill when we have Dudley and Hill who have better all round games, but depth is always a good thing, especially when you use it to feed hot players. He’d be a good alternative to Barbosa when we need defense instead of speed while retaining an outside threat.
Unfortunately, I don’t know of any cheap centers that aren’t offensive voids like Jarron Collins. Do you?
I wouldn’t mind letting both Fyre and Amundson go for Scola. Although, Scola is a powerforward and not a center.
Channing does fit this team well and he is a great asset when he’s knocking down those threes, but he’s not worth a big contract. Lopez is somewhat Injury prone and I think it is important we try to find another defensive center.
Amundson, Fyre and Barbosa are guys I don’t mind seeing leave next season. I like them all for their own reasons, but the point of the offseason is to improve. Barbosa doesn’t really fit anymore. We need a defensive Center to back up Lopez instead of Fyre. I love what Amundson brings, but we need development time for Earl Clark who has much more potential.
At the same time I’m not really worrying about his right now. We still have a playoff series to finish. We can still win.
If we can keep him on the cheap, so be it...
There is a reason Portland tossed him away like leftover pizza…His game is limited to certain formations, and he has no desire to expand beyond that.
I say 2 years at 5 million total or else he can walk and see if he can do any better.. Judging by his performace in this years playoffs, I would say “no…”
Barbosa is gone unless something weird happens…He is overpaid, his game has regressed and he doesn’t fit in well with this current Suns team. Amundson on the other hand, is a totally different story. I don’t see why keeping him around is bad for the team. He is a great team player, has a good attitude, blocks shots, and hustles like it’s his last meal. For the peanut he gets paid, I say keep him…

Barbosa is staying whether you like it or not
Nobody is going to pick up his contract, and you can be sure that he’s not opting out in 2011/2012. Another bad contract by D’Antoni. We went through hell to get rid of Banks’ contract (IMO that was the long term positive impact of the Shaq trade), and got lucky in unloading Diaw while improving the team, but Barbosa will be hard to find a taker.
Defense is probably always going to be a problem, but I hope he can at least get back to the shooting percentages he had in previous years.
Back off Bucko, you can't have Luis.
Morey has said he Will be a Rocket.
Mint I know of guy named Clark...
Even though he did poorly this year, I rather give him a chance next year than to pay Frye $4 – $5 mill/year (which have been said by some people that he might ask for). I really wish we can keep Frye but for the right price.
I voted NO...
Because 2 mil. is just about right, which is what he makes now. His inconsistency, one dimensional offense, and soft serve defense for 6’10"player don’t really make him worth more then that. It has got to the point that teams in the playoffs are letting him shoot wide open 3s. It is one thing to get beat by a better team/player like Amundson when he is overmatched, but Frye is making it too easy for the competition. What happened to his baseline jumper or trying to get points in the paint?
It is Frye who should be giving the Suns a hometown discount for resurrecting his career. His success is a direct result of of the Suns system. His failures are the direct result of him not adjusting when the shots aren’t falling. A pure shooter can shoot himself out of a slump, but Frye is not a pure shooter.
Frye can probably make more then 2mil., but the Suns off season priorities should be:
1. Amare
2. Amundson
3. Frye (only if Amare stays)

NO
Lopez has shown why he is a starter and has no problem scoring.
Frye is basically used to stretch the floor with his three’s and he is a very soft denfsive player.
"There is No Me in MVP"
Sign and trade him to NY or GS
Both teams have young talent. Maybe LB and Frye to NYK for Gallinari and filler.
R U ORNG?
In our dreams my friend...
I know the guys at NY have done some stupid moves but not even the Geico cave man would do this move. (sorry I really like those comercials :)
A sign that Frye will start hitting some threes
Games 1-3 from beyond the arc:
Rashard Lewis – 1/13
Ray Allen – 4/14
Game 4:
Rashard Lewis – 2/3
Ray Allen – 3/5
(Hey, I gotta get hope from somewhere…)
he did...
Even though he hit the shots on the 4th game I still don’t believe he is worth much more than $2 mill/year. I really like the guy and I hope he stays but not for $4 – $5 mill / year as some people think he might be asking for. I say we give him an extention but maybe 2-3 years for $2 mill/year.
NO...
I say let him go. If he is satisfied with 2 mil a year, maybe. But keeping him because he stretches the floor is not a reason. This team can develop a 3 pt shooter, and most of our 3 pt shooters know how to drive to the hole when the shot isn’t falling. His inconsistency and poor defense doesn’t make him much more than a 2 mil a year player. IMHO
