Amar’e is Not the Suns

Amarerebound2_medium

As a very wise, fictional man once said, "You're not your job. You're not how much money you have in the bank. You're not the car you drive. You're not the contents of your wallet. You're not your f***ing khakis. You're the all-singing, all-dancing crap of the world."

Amar’e is not the Suns, nor is he Phoenix, Arizona, nor basketball personified. He is a man, and men must make some tough decisions. To stay or go, to play or grow…after eight years of (mostly) loyal service with a lot of ups and downs, Amar’e can hardly be called the "crap of the world" or of the team at this point. His decisions from here on out will effectively control the second half of his career, so careful research will be required (demanded!). Money vs championship – it is quite possibly the oldest sports argument, or dilemma, in the book (random link for ya).

Of course we won’t know anything official until July 1st, but everyone is speculating. A recent poll had 62.57% of voters stating that they believe Amar’e has played his last game with the Suns.

Ugh…I don’t know. I am right in the middle, although I must admit I have a little sick feeling in the pit of my stomach that reminds me of a time when Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks were just about to dash away for Kazaam. But that turned out okay, right? Yeah, AFTER they sent Shaq packing. I was nervous after the farewell to Boris Diaw and Raja Bell for Jason Richardson, too, but that worked out well. You just never know what will happen and there is NO REASON yet to forecast a cloud of negativity over the Suns (you’re loving the metaphors, just admit it) relating to Amar’e and the future.

All of my opinions aside, I really enjoyed reading the fanpost by dking97 this morning – it really shed some light on actual options and the breaks down each of the free agents’ current situations (in language the BBGF can understand *twirls hair*).

So…Amar’e, right?

Captain Obvious would like to point out that it’s really very hot outside, so aside from having yourself a good day, don’t forget to wear that SPF. Suns fans don’t like to call it "sunscreen"…or maybe that’s just me.
