The reason why the Suns will not compete for this years championship

Size matters, and especially at the PF position. This is the era of the Power Forward, and the best, have been the biggest.

Check the record: 4 rings for Tim Duncan, 2 for Pau Gasol (and counting), 1 for Kevin Garnett. Even that unorthodox Pistons team had the Wallace and Wallace pairing in the frontcourt. All these teams hung their hat on defense, and good team defense is achieved in large part by controlling the INSIDE.

Meanwhile, our Suns seem to have resigned themselves to playing an extra SF at the PF position all year, acquiring two players who are too small to play PF (Hakim Warrick), and too soft to play PF (Hedo Turkoglu), respectively. Boo! Boo I say!

Now, I understand that we just lost one of the premier PF's in the league, and Amare is just not that easily replaced. Finding a great athlete with the size to play PF is difficult - there's only a few such players in the world.

I suggest, that rather than trying to pick up a great athlete/finisher to essentially replace Amare', the Suns could have brought in a defensive monster to man the center. After all, finding a gorilla that's been shaved and taught to protect the rim isn't all that difficult. Guys like Joel Przbilla, DJ Mbenga, Eric Dampier, 'Sagana Diop - all could be had for reasonably cheap. For somewhat more money, a gorilla who can shoot might even be found, such as Brad Miler.

And, I believe the Suns we have another potentially great PF already on the roster: Robin Lopez. Make Lopez the centerpiece. He and Goran Dragic are the future of this team, anyway.
