Great Analysis on Suns' Earl Clark
Clark has a lot more talent than Gani Lawal, but a lot less desire to bang inside. That's a problem when you're 6'10" and 240 pounds. How can you play without contact? Check out this NBA Playbook analysis on Clark in Summer League.

I am hoping that putting him out on the floor with some leadership and playmakers...
Will get Clark going. Like the article showsa, he does show some flashes of his potential every now and then. I really think a concerted partnership with Grant and Steve will start to crack that shell and let out some of that potential.
If it comes out, We might have a 6’10" nightmarish version of Scottie Pippen…If it doesn’t …well…what you see is what you get…
STAT may be gone but the Suns will rise....!
But there isn't much time left for him to play at PF and SF spots

Scottie needed Jordan to become Scottie
we don’t have a bully on this team, the way Jordan was for the Bulls… someone who wanted to win, by every means necessary, each time he stepped on a court, practice or otherwise.

My biggest concern is his avoidance of contact
he really thinks of himself as a little 6-footer, and a wimpy one at that. he needs to find that agression to play in traffic.

The Suns need Earl -
I know minutes for everybody are a concern, but Earl needs to at least be turned into a trade-able asset, if not a future star. I believe Gentry will get him some minutes early in the season, and will play him as long as he performs well. You’ve said it yourself, Alex – he needs to have an epiphany. (I don’t know if that’s the word you used, but…)
I also believe that training camp for the Suns is going to be very physical and very competitive. Lot of guys playing for relatively few minutes. Should be good for everybody – especially the Suns.

So he's an Armon Gilliam?
Seriously, someone should give this guy extra kneepads, goggles, freakin body armor, and tell him his job is to go FIND CONTACT and earn FTs.
Mosh, Earl, mosh!
I thought the sled dog command was "mush".
I thought he was commanding him to throw some people around at a concert.

Oh. I thought mushing was what the Dionysian wannabes do at concerts.
Gotta go now…hi-so, Silva! Mosh! Mosh!

He reminds me of LaMarcus Aldridge in his avoidance of contact aspect.
He also reminds me of LMA in that Clark seems like he might have a fragile ego. I hope I’m wrong, but I seriously don’t want to see some of the coddling given to Clark that the Blazers gave LMA. That was flat out disgusting. I mean, when you have a player that talented, you do what you can to keep him happy, but sometimes too much is just too much…

I know I'm not alone...
when I say that I really, really, really hope Earl can develop into the type of player his potential shows he can be. This time last year, I thought he was just a little raw and needed playing time and coaching. However, after what I saw in summer league, showing very little progress, I would be lying if I said I wasn’t both disappointed and concerned.
I realize he may look like a completely different player once he steps on the floor with better talent around him, and I will reserve judgment until then…but from what I’ve seen thus far, I am beginning to get a little worried if he has what it takes to put it all together.
The thing that jumped out to me in that article is...
… Steve Nash.
How many times have this been said? “Yeah this guy may not be so good but he’ll be ok because he’s playing with Steve Nash”?
How sad would it be when one day we could no longer say that?
Grant Hill is totally the next MJ!!
Very, very sad - but better, because of Dragic.

Dragic better be good
or we’ll have to call back Marcus Banks and DJ Strawberry to be our PGs. Maybe Smush Parker too.

We can always bring back Elliot Perry
Or maybe Kyle Macy.

I don’t see how you can ever make a player aggressive enough. I think he either decides to be aggressive, or it’s hopeless. Are we not talking about training a player’s personality?

sure you can...
contact is about physical confidence… if he decided to lift some weights, and put on some muscle, the contact would follow.
Marcus Camby used to have that rep of being contact shy… don’t think that’s true anymore

boxing
I have long had an idea that a player who is wimpy about banging should take up boxing in the summer or in his spare time. I know it’s much too dangerous as far as one’s NBA career being harmed by boxing injuries, but maybe if a player wore that plastic thingy that shields most of the face, it might be safe enough. I figure that if boxing can’t draw out a player’s aggressiveness, nothing can. (Not that I’ve boxed.) Ask Calvin Murphy, who was a boxer at some point (before basketball, I assume).
