Seeing as how I've failed to follow through on my word on being more active on this site, I find it appropriate that I break my silence at this point in time. The loss to Denver tonight was a cold slap to the nether-regions. I truthfully don't know what to think of this team anymore. There is potential oozing out the seams of this ball club, but unfortunately potential doesn't win games. I'm stubborn in the fact that I still don't believe that the season is truly over for us. Despite our deficiencies, it's hard not to look at the talent the team has and still see slightest ray of hope. This blog is appropriately named "Bright Side" for a reason, I'm sure. So in the spirit of broken spirits, I figured I'd throw out some whimsical nonsense of some potential options moving forward.
Option # 1: Stand Pat -
Lets be honest here. This should be the last thing this team does. The level of anxiety and stress around here seems to be reaching maximum capacity. Change is the one constant in this world, so I highly doubt this is a possibility. Why list it at all, you ask? Basically cause I'm a guy who likes to cover all avenues. Also because Banks, Babby, and Co. might not want to do anything too drastic in their first year. However with the amount of pressure that it is likely being put on them from seemingly everyone with the lack of any type of consistent performance from this team, it's likely peer-pressure will win out.
Option # 2: Another Shake-Up -
I use the term "shake-up" loosely here. I consider the Orlando trade to follow under this category. It wasn't terribly drastic in it's effect as we are still faced with a severe overstock at the wing, but It definitely changed the caliber of the team greatly. This would most likely consist of getting rid of one of our new additions from the year. Clear up the wing and find consistency. However this DOES NOT include Dudley. He is by far the the one positive (outside of Hill and Nash obviously), and one of those rare guys that isn't defined by any one skill. He's just a baller. That said, Pietrus or Childress has to go. Its tragic that Chilly hasn't really had a chance to prove himself, and Pietrus hasn't been here long enough to truly gauge where he might fit, but we don't have room for both. I'm not gonna go all crazy with the trade machine and come up with some ridiculous deals that could work out. Mostly that's because that's a job more qualified for you lovely people. The reason a Shake-Up could be in the cards will be the result of Sarver. I don't know where he stands on the issue now, but I recall his words about still being able to be competitive, whilst building a team. So if Sarver refuses to throw away the season to rebuild, a few smaller trades are in order.
Option # 3: Rebuild..
This is probably the most tender of subjects at the moment. I can just hear (read?) the disappointment in everyone's comments in just about every post, preview, game thread. Everything. It's a shame to even have to consider it at all, but whatever this team is, its broke. And we need to fix it. What does that entail? The moving of our franchise cornerstone, Steve Nash. He is by far our most valuable asset, and it's highly unlikely to get a great player without giving him up. I wish it didn't have to happen in all honesty. It would be too weird to see Nash in something other than a Suns Uniform. Same goes for Grant. It just plain sucks to see these guys unable to succeed and get to the promise land despite being some of the classiest and most dedicated individuals I've ever had the pleasure to watch. It'll be tough if it happens. Next years free agency class is by far the least star studded its been in a while. Combine that with the new CBA and it's unlikely that there will be any building blocks to be signed, as they'll likely extend instead in order to get guaranteed cash. I wish I could expand some further possibilities at the moment for the rebuilding stage, but I'm unable to truly consider it at the moment.
I'm not a frequent contributor but I'm a hardcore fan who can't stand to see my beloved Suns in this situation. I'll add some scenarios tomorrow, simply because I'm too tired to process more than what I've said so far. Looking forward to seeing some ideas and such in the comment section.
