It seems to me that no single Suns player polarizes the fan base more.
And I just can't understand why anybody likes this guy.
I wrote slightly off-topic in another post that Frye lacks strength of the mind. He will play well in a handful of games and make everybody think he could be a solid member of the rotation, but then he'll sprinkle a bunch of threes over a lot of otherwise poor games and yet people still oooh and aaah because a 7 footer is hitting 3s. Well that 7 footer isn't doing anything else, and that's a huge problem for somebody you expect 30 minutes from.
Frye plays to shoot 3s. He has no passion for any other part of the game. He is consistently a step slow in rotations, constantly fouls when good defense could have sufficed, and never closes out hard on shooters.
And for every 3 he makes there are 3 boneheaded plays he will make. Why he isn't immediately benched everytime he puts the ball on the floor and puts up a Kobe-fader or dribbles it into the defense for a TO. I wouldn't even dislike Frye so much if he would just play within himself. Catch and shoot, that's all folks.
I don't understand the lovefest for big guys just because they can shoot. They don't need to shoot 3s. Who are we even spacing the floor for nowadays? The PnR is long gone from its staple days, and nobody even tries to get to the rim in the half-court offense besides Vince occasionally. Dirty Kurt would be better for the PnR game now because at least he can pick and pop (and--oh my goodness--he still does all the other stuff a big man is supposed to do.)
So I have a question for all 'youse who say Frye Is My Guy: are you saying this guy is not only a big man with a deep ball, but also an effective defender and rebounder? And if not, why do you want him playing serious rotation minutes?
I'm hard on players because I want to win a championship. Frye won't get us beyond this bridesmaid curse.
But hey, go Dragic!
