Go Away! I'm baitin'
Havent posted here in a loooong time, but I have to offer my two cents. TRADE NASH, TRADE HILL. It's insanity to keep these guys around, since we have no chance of doing anything even if we make the playoffs.
To become a contender a team needs a talented core that is surrounded with role players. When making a trade it must be in the front office's minds that they need to slowly over time build a core. We have the role players already, and will have a number of them under contract for the next few years.
Trade Nash to a team that is a Steve Nash away from being a contender. There's 3 teams that I can think of that fit this bill. Memphis, Golden State, and New York. Golden State would have to be willing to part with Curry, and I'm not sure they would. And the only reason to trade him to New York would be to give New York title hopes. You wouldn't be getting squat back.
Why it should be Memphis
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=45tyrmo
OJ Mayo hasn't been given much of a chance to be the man in Memphis, but everything I've seen from the guy shows me he has some mad skills. This would be the beginning of the core. You would have a very formidable backcourt with Dragic and Mayo, that in a few years will be one of the best in the league.
For Memphis this move would likely vault them into the upper half of the Western Conference. Nash at the point with Rudy Gay as his swing man, and Gasol and Randolph down low? That's a sick squad.
Hill To New York
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=4tlywk5
Grant Hill to New York would make more sense then Nash to New York. They are looking to rid themselves of Anthony Randolph, and I have no idea why. The kid has talent and could very well be another piece of the team's future core. Take a look
Warriors 2008-09 Highlights: Anthony Randolph (via GoldenStateWarriors)
He's got skills and was coveted by Warriors fans when he was there. But for whatever reason people end up in D'Antonie's dog house.
Of course, for the foreseeable future the Suns would be a lottery team, as the player's gain talent and become better. During this time we would lose some unwanted salary's, but we would also gain some players through the draft. Then maybe we can attract some free agents, because of our potential, much like we did with Nash in 04.

ummmm...
please tell me the Memphis one is a joke right? I would definately want back at least that plus z randolph and 1 and 2 draft picks. The Knicks one is slightly more respectable with Randolph’s potential but Hill brings too much heart and soal and energy to the team, while i fear the Randolph would be unmotivated to do well, and the other guy is a benchwarmer. Please think over trade ideas before stating them.
Vince Carter a rental??? I think not.
I don't agree
As much as I love Steve, people on this site have an incredible ability to overvalue Steve. Memphis is not giving up Mayo, Z-Bo AND picks.
People around the league think Ray Felton + Chanlder + picks is a reasonable trade. I disagree with them, but still.
Mayo and Randolph both have multi-All Star level potential.
I don’t think Memphis does this trade (they don’t seem like they are willing to take risks), but if anyone thinks we’re getting a player a whole lot better than Mayo in return for Nash, they’re full of shit. Period.

those are people who want Nash on the Knicks this season

though I don’t think people are “full of shit” for hoping for more in a Nash trade, I agree that Mayo is as good as it gets as an individual player in a trade. Which is why the Suns will just keep Nash. No, no, no to Mayo. He is NOT multi-allstar talented. Not at all. Can’t do anything exceptional.

The Answer
Is to not trade Steve, because he’s worth so much here, and much less everywhere else, an equitable trade is basically impossible.

Keep Nash huh
Why stay in basketball limbo? We are seriously not going anywhere except high lottery or early playoff exit.
I agree, if we can keep Nash and maybe make a trade that will vault us back in to championship contention, we should do it. Problem is that’s not gonna happen. We have nothing else to offer. And personally I have no issues with a few losing seasons, if it gets us back on the right track.
As far as my Mayo idea, if he doesnt pan out then we deal him later. I do think he has the needed skillset

And therein lies the rub, because once you go down the rebuilding road, as an organization, there is no guarantee on when or even if you’ll get back into contention.
People talk about rebuilding as if it’s a three-year detour to greatness, but look at the most successful rebuilds (SEA/OKC, POR, UTAH) of recent years.
SEA/OKC – Needed over three years plus a whole lot of luck (Durant and Westbrook, two homeruns that were hit in the draft lottery; most teams are lucky to get one of those), and still likely need a solid third option that isn’t named Jeff Green to take the next step.
POR – Drafted a couple studs in Roy and Aldridge, and thought they had the next great center in Oden, but we all know the story there – only Aldridge has any possibility of longevity.
UTAH – Struck gold in Williams and have been savvy with their front office moves to always have a viable second option along with solid role players surrounding DWill. Their rebuild was so fast it might not even qualify, kind of like the Suns’ ‘03/’04 season, but like OKC they have always needed one more piece.
So even when rebuilding goes well, the success rate is only moderate, and I didn’t even bother listing all the bad examples, for that would be better as a Fanpost, and I don’t have the time at the moment.
This is why we want to keep Nash. He’s about 100x better than the alternative, and I’m curious to see what our new front office can do besides wield a sledgehammer.
I smell like the vault. I'm so PAID.

Mayo worth trading Nash? Lay off the crack pipe son. He cant even stay in the starting lineup.

Please go away if you think trading Nash and Hill would be for the better. please, no. We can still make the playoffs and maybe get a chance to win a ring.
get real man
I’m all for optimism but we aren’t winning a ring any time soon with this roster

not bad if we went for a rebuild.
The potential of mayo randolph and thabeet is obviously there. thabeet isn’t the player they thought but also hasn’t been given half the chance he deserved. Same with randolph. Give these guys some minutes and at the very least hope they produce enough to get some real value. Also gets rid of a wing! Free chilly!
