Wow! Much has happened and changed with the Suns and BTOS since I last wrote anything here. However some things are delightfully the same. The sharp, witty, and insightful articles, the liveliness of this community, and the respectful content it produces.
Other changes though not so pleasant for our guys on the floor and it has had me thinking for awhile.
I'm not an armchair GM and certainly am not analysis savvy and statistically armed as most of you but I want to share some of my thoughts with all of you:
1) There is murmur that either Gortat or Lopez will be dealt and that what we are seeing is a tryout for the top front court spot. Since Phoenix is in such need for young bigs, can we try to keep both of them and instead deal out more wing players for bigs?
2) Steve Nash makes this team look good. However I got the impression that ever since the 2008-2009 blown campaign, the focus by the coaching staff and front office was to develop the young players (Dudley, Frye, Dragic etc.) and that Nash and Hill were just around to be our codeine for the pain of rebuilding. Why are so many wanting to firesale this team or worse trade our young talents for "proven stars"?
I hate San Antonio like any of you, but I really like their model. They don't tear down and "rebuild." They are in a constant cycle internal reform. They find young talent and ease them in to the system so that when their star leaders decline and eventually leave, there is someone already there in the wings. It's consistent and stable for on the floor and attraction for the fan base.
I love Nash and revere Hill, but if any trade happens it should be with them in order to get guys who can play with our young 'uns and give them a shot to contribute to Championship contenders.
Yes my friends, our team stinks right now. But there is still much basketball to be played. Let's not have our concern over the club turn into consternation, blinding us to their moments of glory. Like always let's look at and keep it on, the bright side.
