Grant and the second unit
It's really too early to make conclusions. However, it seems like the Suns bench may have offensive issues. Telfair may have a stabilizing effect - when given a real chance. He hasn't shown it on a consistent basis thus far in his career, and Price is a better defender than most guys wearing purple and orange, anyway. So, should Grant Hill see more action with the reserves to supply some point forward and veteran leadership?
I'm not suggesting Grant be taken out of the starting lineup or crunch time scenarios, either. He can be taken out eight minutes into the first quarter and brought back in to start the second. Then play the first five and last three minutes of the second quarter -something like that.
That added ability to create some offense - and move the ball more effectively - should help offensive production of a second unit which already seems to be solid defensively. However, the question then becomes, who replaces Hill with the starters? Shannon Brown? Chilldress? Warrick? That's another answer I don't have - but I guess the opponent could help dictate the choice, occasionally.
The bench, in my opinion, is going to need a stabilizing prescence if Telfair is not going to be a facilitating point guard. Also, I love what Price brings to the defense - but his playmaking ability and scoring aren't going to scare anyone. Guys like Brown and Childress need someone else to help them get good looks. If needed, then I think the first tweak should be more minutes for Grant with the defensively potent second unit. This team needs production from all players. Go Suns.

I definitely think our bench need guidance in order to be effective
I would do it but i would play Price instead of Telfair.
Blind enough to believe on Pudgemonster.
I think you are shortchanging Telfair
The guy has a lot of talent, and price will struggle when he is forced to shoot. He has a harder time getting to the rim then Telfair and his jumper is a little more streaky. Overall I think he is the better pace managing point guard, but he will turn the ball over more then I would prefer.

I said no.
Grant is going to be matched up against the other team’s best player 93.7% of the time, and 100% of the NBA teams best players do not come off the bench. Not one bench players offense is worthy enough of Grant Hill’s defensive efforts to come off the bench to deal with it.

Not necessarily
Hill is another year older and in order to preserve him for this unique season I think you will see Grants workload diminish. He may defend the best player a majority of the time, but it will be for fewer minutes at the very least.

Which is fine. But he still isn't going to be coming off the bench,
which does happen to be the title, and subject, of this blog… LAWYERED!

What?
I’m not suggesting Grant be taken out of the starting lineup
I didn’t say Grant should come off the bench. I suggested he see more time with the second unit.
Also, the title is “Grant and the second unit.” Where in that title does it say he should come off the bench?
Reverse lawyered?(so cheesy)
So maybe I was re-lawyered (not cheesy, but chessy for sure)
But Grant isn’t going to be rolling with the second unit to help them.
He’ll be guarding the other team’s best player 93.7% percent of the time. That obliterates the whole arguement of Grant working with the second unit because the other 6.7% of the time, he’ll be resting.
Re-re-Lawyered.

He’s 39 years old. You think he’s got enough in him to cover the other team’s best player all game(effectively)?
I think the point is that he has to.

brooks
Will either come in and contribute or add to a trade package. I think he will contribute so the backups we have now are just needed til what, late Feb, early Mar? Maybe?
Sheriff Joe has already filed the paperwork to have Brooks
permanently barred from re-entering the state of AZ.
On the serious side, I hope Brooks gets stuck in China.

Going to have to wait til after tonight to judge
But Hill looks really slow from this knee injury so at the very least I don’t see why we would do this until he is healthy. Gentry hinted at Dudley moving to the bench as well

Dudley doesn’t do much creatively, but he does bring really good energy. If Duds does come off the bench, then I hope he gets some time with Telfair to see if he can create some of those open looks that Dudley needs to thrive offensively.
Yeah
Well I was just worried about how bad our offense would be without Grant but we are playing so bad right now that it is at least a possibility.

yes and no
given his age hill cant be out of the game to long without getting stiff. however it would be nice to have Warrick and Nash play more together with the pick and role. so instead of hill have frye come off the bench
