Ideas for the Vince Carter trade

I think the Suns will get rid of Vince Carter at the deadline, but is it a movement of present or future? I mean, it will be a trade thinking in PO and being a championship contender, or it will be a trade thinking in rebuild from next season?

There are many possibilities, but I'm not a GM and I don’t know much about this. I have an idea that I think isn’t going to like the Suns fans and followers of BSOTS. Memphis has an expiring contract (Zach Randolph); he is a double-double machine and Memphis want to get rid of him because he is not in the plans for the future (they intend to extend Marc). I know that many people will say that if chemistry, that if the character, that if this or that or the other... but the reality is that Zach is a 20-13 right now. I know he isn´t a great defender and can be selfish, but I also know that he can fill the void created by the departure of Amare.

The problem may be that we must find a third team to take the expiring contract of Vince Carter and can offer the Grizzlies something they might need.

We lose nothing; if the experiment fails, we have relief for next season and if the experiment is a success we can offer him a fair extension.

The Grizz aren't ready to blow it up yet

They’ve been playing well as of late, and actually are two games above 500. Also, I cannot understate how much Memphis loves Zach Randolph and how much Randolph loves Memphis. I’m not kidding you, he is like the Steve Nash of that franchise, not to mention the sick numbers the dude is putting up this year: 20/13/48% FG. Marc Gasol has taken a huge step backwards in his development so there is a chance that they maybe able to afford both of them. Also, with OJ Mayo seemingly out of the fold it seems they can afford a future of Conley/Gay/Z-bo/Gasol.

Last year's Phoenix Suns team was like the show "Deadwood." A great thing that ended way too early.

i'd rather see vince goto the GSW

and the suns get monta ellis and udoh or wright.

i think at the trade deadline, VC / Warrick / childress and a 1st rounder are gone, and the suns end up with 2 new players…

Amen.

Can you imagine a Steph-Steve backcourt? It would be incredibly sucky on defense and we would get dominated by bigger frontcourts, but OMG how awesome would that offense be?

Go Suns, Packers, Jays, and Huskers!

And go Shawn Watson and Barney Cotton! Seriously, leave Lincoln. Now.

you could say the same thing

about a steve and j-rich backcourt

by suns13 on Feb 2, 2011 9:45 PM MST up reply actions

A bit different.

Steve and Steph are possibly the 2 best shooters in the game, and they are both very capable of making plays with the dribble. I watched a lot of Warrior games last year when Anthony Tolliver played for them, and I saw flashes of Steve in Steph’s ga,e. Different mindset, but similar skillset.

I disagree kind of

Steph is possible one of the best shooters in the game, but Nash is not a great shooter. He is an okay shooter and makes most of his money by playing his game with assists. He was a great shooter with the Mavs, but not so much now. Nash one of the best pg’s, but he is not one of the great shooters in the nba.

by waffles on Feb 2, 2011 10:24 PM MST up reply actions

Nash has had the most 50-40-90 seasons of anyone

there’s this guy Larry Bird, you may have heard of him, who is the only other player in NBA history to do it more than once. Nash is probably the greatest shooter if all time.

waffles, what are you smoking?

man I am really trying to contain myself but seriously do you follow the Suns at all? Nash is consider by many as one of the best shooter to EVER play the game (as efficiency goes) and I doubt that you will find anyone that a would disagree if nothing else he is one of the top 3 in the NBA today.

Is this the most "WTF are you talking about?" statement in BSOTS history?

Nash is not a great shooter. He is an okay shooter

Do I even need to mention that Nash has led the league in true shooting % (which takes 2-point shots, 3-point shots and FTs into account) twice with the Suns and is among the league leaders now?

Dude, waffles, where are you getting this stuff from?

...what?

Nash is the best shooter in the history of the game.

Steve Nash, the league's MVP, is a longhaired Canadian who spoke out against the war in Iraq and reads The Communist Manifesto. Quentin Richardson declared after a game-winning shot that it "was like Hamlet. It was a suspense thriller, and I killed them at the end." Amare Stoudemire, when asked to comment on a 22-point third quarter against the Kings, said, "I've got a tendency to jump over some guys' heads and throw it down."

Can you please not use the internet anymore?

Steve Nash isn’t a great shooter?

Quick, name how many people averaged 90FT/50FG/403PT?

Who did it more than once? Larry Bird. Who did it 4 times? Steve Nash.

Your waffles must be laced with some strong shit.

Who’s your dealer and where I can get in touch with him? I’d like a hit of that. It must be good since you’re so far gone from reality.

Trade VC, Peaches, Warrick and 2 (both next year) for Andre Iguodala and Elton Brand.

This is a really risky trade, because Brand may not work and has three years left on a big deal, but I think he is a good enough jump shooter for a 4 for our system, and he rebounds better than Warrick et al. And Iguodala… he’d give us a fast breaking wing, and a lock down defender, even without being a great shooter.

Philly want to move both, and the price is pretty small (Two expiring-ish contracts and, if we make the playoffs, to 1st rounders that are likely 17 and 23).

I'm guessing it's not what we lose,

but rather what we gain. As in Elton Brand’s contract.

Charlotte

is a logical trading partner. They need to blow it up, so they need expiring contracts. They also need a big name player to put butts in the seats. And Vince is a Carolina college product anyway, so there’d be some goodwill for him there.

You can probably get Stephen Jackson, or Gerald Wallace. Maybe even both, if you throw in a young player (Lopez) and/or a draft pick. Personally, I’d rather have Jackson, as Wallace’s shooting touch leaves a bit to be desired in our offense.

Trade Warrick!!!

Penny for your thoughts: wait till the offseason!!!!!

Why?

1. This season will not be a success – even if the suns get into the playoffs, the will very likely lose in the first/second round – and the trade will not change a damn thing. We simply don’t have the assets to become a contender AFTER the trade. The only chance for this team for a major improvement is to let Gortat, Goran develop, keep Nash + Hill healthy for a couple more years and get someone in the draft. We cannot trade for the stars – we can trade for supporting cast.

2. There is simply not enough games left to go through another transition period when new guys begin to understand their roles. Another trade probably would cost us the playoffs alltogether so the only reason why we should trade is for the future. So…

3. We should know what we need before we trade. First of all I believe we don’t need a regular PF. If we are trying to make Gortat/Nash PnR work – there is simply no space for the “new Amare” to do the same. Getting a PnR PF will only marginalize Gortat in the offense. After this season we will know if Gortat + Lopez can be constant inside scoring options and so we will know who we need to pursue – a SG/SF spot up shooter or a new version of VC.

4a. Spot up shooter: if we decide that Nash can find anyone anywhere – we need a good shooter who will get free using screens (Gortat is great with screens) and sink an open outside jumper. There are two major steals coming up in the offseason: Michael Redd and Rip Hamilton. Both are quite cheap and both are coming off a dissapointing season (for different reasons of course) however, I believe they both have a lot left in the tank. When Redd shakes of his rust after the injury he will become a major threat again.
Rip is also a very similar player to what he once was – it’s just the system in Detrot is completely different to the one he was used to.

4b. VC 2.0 – they don’t come cheap, but they can create their own shot when the defense collapses on Nash and stops the PnR. JR Smith is one option , especially that he has only a year left on his contract. He can shoot, drive, dunk, complete package. I imagine he can fill the void if we get rid of carter and childress/pietrus. Shannon Brown can also be your poor man’s VC – he improved his 3pt shooting a lot, although his mid range jumper still looks quirky. He can drive and dunk though and is a good defender. OJ Mayo would probably come cheap if he can do some soulsearching and realize he is Fuckin up his career. Rudy Fernandez is also a perfect fit – he is just suffocating in the slowest team in the whole NBA, Nash would improve his game much like he did with Gortat. He has a 1.2 mil on his contract and it is only for another year.

Ufff… sorry for the length.

Summary:

Get rid of Carter / Childress / Peaches

Get: RipHamilton/Michael Redd

or: Mayo/Fernandez/S.Brown/JR Smith

Feed the cutter!!!

I'm coming around on Peaches

I think he can be a contributor. Of course, if trading him nets me someone better, I’m also for it.

Trade Warrick!!!
