Thunder Make 29 More Freebies To Storm Past Phoenix Suns in OT, 112-118

I have never, in all my years watching NBA basketball since the 80s, seen a younger team get SO MANY FOUL CALLS while shooting layups.

Unbelievable. I mean, they don't even have to fall down on the shot (like Wade) or yell out "And 1!" (like Amare) or flop like there's no tomorrow (like Manu). All they have to do is take the shot and the ref jumps in there like Uncle Diddles to protect the little shooter.

41 free throws for the Thunder (not including the 6 at the end when the Suns were fouling on purpose) vs. 3 "clean" blocks by the Suns.

11 free throws for the Suns (not including 3 on a 3-pointer) vs. 9 "clean" blocks for the Thunder.

Those Thunder, with the middling defense and laregly unaccomplished players, are AMAZING at getting clean blocks on one end and drawing just enough contact to make the shot and draw the foul on the other end. Kudos to the coaching. (oh, and how's the separated shoulder on that non-foul, Channing?)

That's the story of the game.

But of course, that's not the WHOLE story.

Star-divide

The Suns allowed exactly what I said they COULD NOT do, which was to allow more than 1 guy besides Durant and Westbrook to have career games.

James Harden is a really good player, but the Suns allowed him to have basically the game of his career tonight. 26 points, 6 rebounds, 4 blocks, 2 steals. He was all over the court, and just might become the 3rd guy in the NBA's next Big Three. But did it have to start against the Suns?

And then there's Nick Collison. His stat line wasn't incredible (11 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal), but he made a big difference in this game in the middle. When I think of the second half near the basket, on either end, I think of Collison. He's one of those guy you absolutely hate unless he's on your own team.

And now for the Suns' players of the game:

Channing Frye had 15 rebounds before NOT being fouled by Durant while yanking his own shoulder out of its socket on a shot attempt. Nice defense, Kevin. Here's hoping he heals quickly, though I'm skeptical. Dammit. Again, thanks KD.

Steve Nash survived his "down there" pain long enough to tally 11 points and 14 assists. He was mugged on a turnover toward the end of regulation that the refs deemed solid upstanding gang-tackle defense by the Sooners (OKC ball!), but missed a couple gimmees that could have really helped in crunch time. Not bagging on Nash, but I do wish he was healthy.

And then of course there's Vince Carter. Despite his missed free throws at the end, the Suns ARE NO WHERE near that far in the game without Vince Carter hitting some sick, sick shots when the Suns really needed them. He just needed some big-shot help on the court with him and no one stepped up besides Dudley once.

That's enough for me.

Great game, sad finish. But still a 4-2 trip. Go Suns!

We got royally screwed by the Ref's

This will hopefully fire up the team. I can see us in the 8th spot in the next five games.

What upsets me the most is the refs being unfair to Nash basically his whole career. Guy doesn’t deserve that at all.

I have a theory

That when refs call a suns game they are blinded by the suns. Nothing else could explain how we routinely get called for breathing wrong on guys and then get absolutely no calls on the other end. Our suns give off such intense light when they go up for baskets, the refs have sun spots in their eyes keeping them from calling fouls that would get a hockey player tossed from a game.

I pictured Sun-Bear Lopez in a bear suit with his fro sticking out of the bear hood, towering over the headless Duncan snarling a-la wolverine while ol’ crazy eyes Hill just stares at him whispering "damn he’s crazy."

I wasn't too upset with us losing

cause everyone played hard…until I saw that Memphis beat Dallas. That’s when I lost it.

Man, we’re so close to the 8th seed yet so far. I’m a little afraid with the game against Houston since they’ve been winning games and then we have Denver on Thursday. I hope Channing is fine and props to Carter for doing work.

the thing I am most impressed with...

is how we regained the momentum with 5 mins left in the game…

Honestly, we made a lot of shots but through 43 mins, I thought they were the slightly better team…But we showed amazing resilience and actually got stops and a bunch of easy buckets, down the stretch.

and really we should/could have beaten them, in their house with terrible officiating at the tail end of a 6 game trip, with some very bad bounces as well, and with our newly annointed go to guy on the bench injured. I would not have expected this, but after this game, I now actually think we may be better than them over a 7 game series.

Quentin Richardson declared after a game-winning shot that it "was like Hamlet. It was a suspense thriller, and I killed them at the end." by ilintar on Mar 6, 2011 8:45 PM MST up reply actions

My educated guess (as a PT)

would be a minimum of 1-2 weeks, possibly as long as 6-8 weeks, depending on the seriousness of the initial injury.

Damn, right when we needed him the most too..

its a dislocation, not a separation...

totally different things, and one is serious, the other is not. I know its a different sport, but we would come back into games after putting the joint back in place in hockey games… I know it probably would impact his shooting motion and probably be more painful with that motion, but I don’t see him being out more than a week. If he is, then its more serious than a dislocated shoulder (which was no longer dislocated within 5 minutes of the injury)…

by Gildo on Mar 7, 2011 9:43 AM MST up reply actions

What more than likely happend is a subluxation.

Which is where the joint rolls out of the socket (in the same manner you would expect from a dislocation) but rolls back in. I have had this happen to be basically on the same motion if football. (except to both of my shoulders at the same time). Depending on swelling, never damage, and how fast he is capable of strengething muscles around the joint will depend on how fast he returns. Also there is risk of tearing the cartalidge as with any joint injury. So it’s relaly up to the MRI and the Suns Docs / Training staff to put a date on it.

TO THE NBA - " Yeah, you have created a rift within me ; Now there have been ; several complications ; that have left me feeling nothing ; I might say, you were ; wrong to take it from me ; Left me feeling nothing " - Disturbed, "Numb"

by antiw0rm on Mar 7, 2011 2:04 PM MST up reply actions

And the initial prognosis is 2-3 weeks.

Meaning it’s close to the best case scenario I suggested for this injury. And yeah, it’s going to be harder to come back from it when it’s an injury to the shooting hand of a professional basketball player than when it happens to a hockey player..

IF Frye is out longer than we expect it's on Lopez to step up his play

We needed him to play like an all-star to be a contender and near all-star to make the playoffs. He and Dragic both have regressed. It’s like Robin hasn’t learned anything. He still plays with one arm and whatever happened to his “I’m the Enforcer” attitude. I’m not blaming him for the loss. I’m just saying with Frye getting hurt this is his time to step it up. If he doesn’t I’m totally for trading him in the off-season.

I do think Dallas are WAY better than last year,

but who knows that may not be enough to get them anywhere anyways..they have made a lot of nice adds, and just seem more solid and way less likely to truly suck by comparison to last year’s team.

Its just that if the lakers have been kinda farting around and are now starting to actually show up, as we saw today vs. the spurs, they are once again the team to beat and arguably, much better than anyone in the west…

After watching OKC today and the Dallas melt down (in between games) and the way we battled, I do think the Suns may have a shot against anyone but the Lakers, so long as Channing is basically ok.

Jamison

had a dislocated shoulder last season and wasn’t the same the whole year. I’m really hoping Frye’s was very slight.

but his whole shooting motion is F’d now, and all contact will really hurt.

Ugh

What a game. Horrible interior D at the start of the game. Bad defense on the 3pt line.. Daequan Cook had open 3 after open 3 (not that he hit that many but thats all he does).

In the end, I’m sort of surprised we were still on it. The refs were not very kind but we still hung in there and led most of the game and forced an OT.

And I don’t want to take tooooo much away from Carter (cause without him we dont make OT) but he is just mentally weak. There’s no way he should be missing 2 FTs like that at the end od the game.. And i still can’t believe Memphis won. Ugh

Because that was like a huge confidence booster for Hedo when he hit that 3 up until Frye missed the free throws.

Grant also missed a wide-open 3

that would have put the Suns up 118-113 in OT.

So we can’t blame anything on Vince in this game that we wouldn’t blame on anyone else.

I really wish we would have called a TO and drew up a play up 2 with a minute to go and the ball. Grant – who at the time was 0/5 and 0/2 from three – was the last guy on the floor I wanted shooting.

I never want Grant Hill shooting 3's

Wide open, in practice, on a paper waste basket, etc.

He never shot 3s before he signed with Phoenix because it is out of his range. It’s a really bad habit he picked up from D’antoni, who will let anybody shoot a 3. His form is awful. It looks like a frog in slow motion.

Old man Hill used all his energy on Durant, the leading scorer, and it was an impressive job.

Agreed on his 3s

He’s alright from the corner but it looks like such a painful effort for him. His awkward uncomfortable three point stroke is an outlier in what’s an otherwise smooth game.

mentally weak is right

i would know, im from Toronto . he never had the balls to come big in big games, especially in the playoffs. u can ask fans of New Jersey, or Orlando as well, he hardly ever came up big.

i loved the dudes talent tho, very talented, not to take away from that.

on that note, it felt liek i was watching the Old VC days in Toronto tonight, it was refreshing to see.

but the free throws made the cold dark reality sink in, that he really hasnt changed all that much i guess, and ya gotta take the good(his talent) with the bad(his lack of mental toughness)

How dare he get in the way of the new chosen one. In fact, Channing should be fined and suspended. The NBA must protect it’s new “Chosen One” at all costs. In fact, the Thunder should just be allowed to just shoot free throws before the ball is even tipped.

Houston-A home game, and Aaron Brooks will want to blowout his old team
Denver-We can definitely beat them. I know they’ve been winning games, but they’re definitely beatable
Orlando-This is the only one I think we’ll lose. They’re a good team, but again, if the Suns play like they played tonight, this game will be a Win. Keep in mind that I don’t expect the Ref’s to dole out 41 free FT’s to every team that the Suns play.
@ Houston-Again, we can easily beat them, and Aaron Brooks will love to beat his old team twice.
@ New Orleans-We can definitely beat them. Sure, they just beat Cleveland and Memphis, but they were on a losing streak before that. I think that if the Suns win the games I think they’ll win, the momentum will win them this game.

Since it’s a hard job and a fast game and contact happens almost every play, some mistakes are inevitable.

But tonight was just effing ridiculous.

How in the hell can a guy get hit so hard that his shoulder is dislocated and have it be a no-call?

You guys have already covered all of the bad calls. It was amazing that the Suns were able to stay in the game with how the Refs were trying to help the Thunder late in the game.

Right now, I just hope Frye is okay and that he will be able to play again soon. And even though Carter choked on the Free Throws, he had a great game and he needs to keep playing like that to pick up some of the slack until Frye comes back.

They allways pressure at about halfway between halfcourt and the three point line. Which isnt a problem the Suns typically always have a shooter open. The problem is they become relyant on Nash to do something. They stop moving with out the ball and he has to force up a leaner.

totally,

but for the L, this is probably one of our best games of the year. Like I said in other posts, with 5 mins left, we didn’t just die, we actually completely outplayed them, but for the terrible calls, and one very bad bounce where there was a tipped rebound that ended up a 3, we win this game many times. We were without Channing, getting raped by the reps, against supposedly an elite NBA contender on the road at the end of a tough trip, and I say we won the last 5 mins easily.

Simply

I love watching great NBA teams and games. And I’ve tracked on the Suns since the day they signed Nash. In fact, one of my least favorite NBA memories involve him – when Nash got his nose wrecked in that game one against the Spurs in 2007, which probably cost the Suns the game and the series, not to mention likely their best shot at ever making the Finals.

Montreal Screw Job

I feel every year there is at least one game where the Suns get royally screwed by the refs. Last season, it was a home game against the Lakers and this year, I look at this game. A lot of phantom calls that seem to be almost whenever the Thunder took the ball to the rim where called . Suns, on the other hand, a lot of ‘hard defense’ which would be called fouls anywhere else weren’t called. Due to that, a huge disparity in free throws between both teams. The fact the Suns were so closed shows a lot of heart. If this doesn’t show that we’re a team to be

more I think about it

Our two losses came against Point Guards that are heavy in hand checking. I feel that if Rondo was in the league during MJ’s era, he’d wouldn’t be as anywhere near a good defender as he is today. He learned his hard nose defense from the best (Doc Rivers lived off hand checking).

Westbrook against Nash tonight did a lot of hand checking to keep Nash near which led to turnovers on Nash part. If one of those were called, he’d most likely be out the game.

I’ve noticed that the NBA has kinda backed off hand checking for certain players, but if the NBA doesn’t want bad ref jobs like this, the whistle has to be blown.

They really seem to let teams get away with hand checking Nash

when they trap on the pick and roll. Portland, San Antonio and now OKC, they all hit Nash hard out on the perimeter from the start of the game and by the end of the game he’s just beat.

Achievement is its own reward, pride obscures it.

interesting..

didn’t see a lot of him, but what I did see, he hit a ton of 3’s, which he wasn’t doing here…and which I contend was one of the biggest problems. last year as a 3 point threat it ended up getting him a) a ton of points on 3’s and b) opening up the floor for him particularly but also for the rest of the team.

My one biggest concern about trading Goran was that he was out for so long and when he came back I could kind of see an improvement in his body language and his confidence. I will always wonder whether we traded him like 1 week too early and that if he’d had just a few games to show what he had after the injury, it might have been a different story.

Can’t really complain about AB too much so far, so it might go down as yet another win/win where both guys needed a change of scenery.

I slept really bad last night

And dreamed VC had 5 points against the OKC Thunder. I really did. I was like “oh man he’s so slow”. And woke up at 5 AM and I was like “hm… let me get back to sleep, I don’t want to wake up in the middle of the game” (I wanted to sleep and watch the game from the NBA LP archive).

But man, those missed free throws really did have a Nick Anderson effect on VC. I’m talking about those that he missed against Boston in the ECF. That game-tying three point shot at the end of the regular time was the FIRST (yup, the first) shot I’ve ever since Vince shot, since the New Jersey trade to Orlando, that looked very close to 100% his shooting mechanics. All the other are far away from his normal shooting stroke.

He acted purely on instinct there, no time to fail mentally. Instead, at the free throw line, you could see he was worried… man I hated that.

But this game was lost in a series of turnover, bad referee calls and some missed easy shots.

Steve Nash, the league's MVP, is a longhaired Canadian who spoke out against the war in Iraq and reads The Communist Manifesto. Quentin Richardson declared after a game-winning shot that it "was like Hamlet. It was a suspense thriller, and I killed them at the end." Amare Stoudemire, when asked to comment on a 22-point third quarter against the Kings, said, "I've got a tendency to jump over some guys' heads and throw it down."

by rsavaj on Mar 7, 2011 10:16 AM MST up reply actions

This is the part...

…where I do that thing where I remind everyone to thank the refs the next time the Suns are the beneficiaries of some bad officiating which no one ever remembers when it happens because every fan base in the history of the NBA has been screwed over by the refs but has never benefitted from one bad call ever because the refs obviously hate [insert star player/franchise here] forever and ever amen.

After all, remember that time the Suns beat the Wizards a couple of months ago and shot 20 more free throws than the Wiz, but ZOMG, that must have been the most perfectly officiated game ever cuz no one sent sympathy cards to the DC area for getting “raped by refs” or offered to give that win back or play a rematch in Steve Nash’s backyard because that would be he classy thing to do?

Is it just that much easier than pointing out Steve Nash’s rapidly decreasing ability to perform in the clutch? Point out the gaping black hole on offense that was Grant Hill? Note that both Lopez and Gortat missed a handful of shots at the cup? Perhaps ask Alvin Gentry why, when the Suns were getting to the rim unguarded on the pick and roll he maybe didn’t give Hakim Warrick another minute or two since he was basically born to do one and only one thing and that’s roll to the basket and dunk?

Bad calls happen and can’t be helped. Bad execution can.

Tough game..but why did Steve Nash shoot the 3 with 7 secs to go??!??

I really thought we had a chance. Must’ve been Gentry’s play call. We got a really tough schedule coming up too..but at least wer back home.

I officially hate Memphis for winning on a lucky shot.

From The Loud City Blog

The Officiating

I’d be remiss if I did not address the officiating in the game. In a word, it was bad. There were numerous missed calls, the offensive charge/defensive block calls seemed extremely arbitrary, and of course there was the massive free throw disparity (Thunder 47, Suns 14).

The worst though were two calls that quite possibly tipped the scales in the Thunder’s favor:

   1. The no-call on Steve Nash. With 14 seconds remaining in the game and the Suns with the ball trailing by a point, Westbrook quite clearly pushed Nash in the back, which caused Nash to lose the ball. The lead increased to three points, and in the end the best the Suns could do was tie (which they did).
   2. The phantom foul on Steve Nash. With only 34 seconds remaining in the OT and the Suns up two, James Harden dunked the ball on a fast break play. Nash had stuck out his arm, but clearly pulled it back before there was any sort of contact with Harden. In fact, nobody hit Harden at all as he dunked the ball. The refs however seemed like they were anticipating the foul and called it anyway, despite the lack of contact. Harden hit the free throw, the Thunder took the lead, and the Suns never caught them after that moment.

I’m happy the Thunder won, and they still had to make the plays necessary to hold on, but these calls were so bad, and came at such critical points, that it is hard not to sympathize with the Suns faithful for using the word “referee” as a curse word this morning. The league needs to do better than this.

Much Respect ^ At least they know they got the benefit of the doubt and won.

Definitely written by a classy guy.

Is that Dogburt’s work? Cuz I’m starting to like that guy.

Eric's list of freakin' demands:
1. Jordana Brewster, freakin' marry me.
2. Steve Nash, sign my freakin' jersey and win a freakin' championship already.
3. All powerful being that may/may not have been responsible for the creation of our universe, please just freakin' remove the atrocities known as the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers from the NBA. I'm freakin' serious.
4. BSotS, stop freakin' hating on Vince Carter. It's freakin' stupid and it needs to freakin' stop.

Not classy - the only Thunder fan who commented on that post

“really?
refs have good days and bad days like everybody else, its part of the game you got to play threw it and i think suns got the best call of the whole game with that 3-pointer carter supposely got fouled on. we got more foul calls because are guards drove the ball and all the suns did was shoot so I dont sympathize at all with them THUNDER fought hard and deserved it”

I didn’t see the game but based on the comments, the Suns were nearly as aggressive without the benefits of the calls. Regardless, it still shouldn’t matter if one team is being more “aggressive” by going to basket more, while the other team is shooting more jump shots – a foul is a foul and it should be called as such.

That being said, it happens to all teams. The Suns just need to regroup and go out and beat the Rockets. Here’s hoping that Frye is okay.

How can you not call a foul when someone dislocated an arm....

At least the OKC fans aknowledge the home cookin..

If Frye didnt go out we could be talking about three game winners..

Did you guys finally LVCOF?

I'm good with VC@ the moment

tough free throws to miss but we wouldn’t have been in the game in the first place if it wasn’t for him.

I think free throw shooting is the only thing you just gotta take

There’s nothing you can do about it than shoot and live with it. It’s not a matter of lack of effort, careless, lazyness etc. He just didn’t made the shots.

I’m 100% sure those missed free throws vs. the Celtics that he missed just “blew his mind”. That’s why he’s a 75% free throw shooter this season as well, vs 84% last season and 80% per career.

vince is an enigma to me

I was going through this season thinking that he’s def a baller but crumbles when the pressure’s on, then he makes that three last night to send it to OT and blows my whole pre-conceived notion of him into the water…only to choke at the FT line…can’t figure this dude out.

That's because it's a game of centimeters (or fraction of inches for you American guys)

Think about it: you shoot a spherical object towards a target that’s at a distance. Even an extremely small deviation equals a miss. There as much luck into any shot (good or bad luck) as you can have, so if you get lucky, you make the shot. If you don’t get lucky, you don’t make the shot.

It’s also a matter of ability, especially when you don’t have the time to think about it and shoot it instinctively, so natural talent plays a big role (besides luck) – that’s why he’s bad with free throws – weak mind, has time to collapse into the moment, and fails.

74% FT shooter

gotta hit 2/3. No excuses. It was a gift of a makeup call and VC blew it. I’m not dwelling on it because the way that the refs called that game they would have just given the Thunder another phantom call.

The worst part about the non-call on KD vs. Frye

was that the ref was right there just a few feet away.

My two cents

Definitely a frustrating game to watch and officiating did seem to affect it.

BUT – what pisses me off most about the game is that nobody was enforcing the paint.

What happened to “The Wall” that Gortat and Lopez were supposed to be? What happened to dealing with “two big guys” down in the paint?

Russel Westbrook (I love the guy, he looks like a frog and frustrates the crap out of me when he’s abusing Nash… but i would love to have him as our PG) was just man-handling Nash all game long.. and not once did somebody reach in and just knock him to the floor one time. That’s what I was looking for – didn’t need to be dirty, but seriously put a hit on him to make him think twice about uncontrollably driving the lane like he does.

The only times I saw Westbrook hit the floor hard was when he was the one initiating the contact and running into guys trying to set screens or take charges. Hit the kid, rough him up – take pride in not allowing the opposing team to drive the lane like it was the San Tan. I thought we learned all this from Tony Parker – just knock the dude down and he’ll pass it off more.

That’s what i was most disappointed in – our inability to push back. Our guys got beat up by a younger and stronger team.

Well I did see some push back, starting in the last 5 mins in the game, and carrying on through the..

OT. They definitely weren’t able to score at will as they had…maybe we weren’t beating them up, but we were defending better, definitely.

But you are right to say age is an issue. We can’t beat these young and athletic teams with Nash and Hill playing 35 mins +. In these games, against say OKC, Memph, Philly…maybe there are others, (Denver?) we simply must use the bench more to “equalize” the athleticism, imo. And maybe that is a general issue, as Nash and Hill are definitely showing signs that more rest for them would be beneficial

by HarvMel on Mar 7, 2011 11:50 AM MST up reply actions

more on age -

watching the Suns you can tell the switch in pace when the bench comes in as opposed to when Nash is floor general – yes he used to be the king of 7SOL and the best a pushing the floor… but I’m not sure that’s the case – he walks the ball up more than he used to. Just saying

agreed..

but some of that is because, there is an overuse problem.. We bungled too many games early in the year, when we had the various problems created by the FO (some of that actually is parity as well finally rearing its head). And so we needed a lot of Nash and Hill just to stay competative.

So we created a situation where we don’t have much room for error and it seems to me, we’re playing with Nash and Hill a bit burnt out (and now we need to worry about Frye), and as a result pace is being sacrificed.

Its too bad, because we now look like we can be a really good team if we weren’t facing a ton of must win games with no rest, and some guys overworked and now dealing with the concern about Channing. And I think to maximize how we play these last 5 ish weeks, AG is going to have to rely on the bench a bit more than he seems to be comfortable with.

by HarvMel on Mar 7, 2011 2:38 PM MST up reply actions

Agreed on Westbrook

Rose and Wade get fouled hard all the time and they play the same style. You just can’t let a PG do that. It’s something you have to take personal if you are a big man. It’s worth the risk of a flagrant.

I was disappointed to see RoLo get benched after the two fouls. Gortat and Frye had great games, but RoLo was playing well too. Even after Frye went down gentry went to Dudley and Pietrus. Their 3s were crucial, Pietrus has been on fire of late, but the Suns needed a presence in the middle.

Lopez was failing HARD offensively...

He was getting hammered and his shot blocked what seemed like everytime.. not saying I agree with benching him so much, but I will say I was yelling in frustration and shooting finger guns at his lack of finishing ability last night.

If he fouls out of the game for putting his shoulder into every player that steps in front of him….

really? I remember at one time he was self-title "the enforcer"

What happened to that? The dude is allowed 6 fouls a game – In the last 25 games the highest number of fouls he’s committed is 4 and he did in on only 4 occasions.

Last I checked he’s only averaging something like 16 mpg and he’s not playing late in games…

Also... I dont think we got beat up...

that freethrow disparity was pretty tough to overcome… I think they showed some serious fight and class… Fight for not losing by 40… Class for not promptly shoving the ball up Kennedys ass in the parking lot after the game.

We didn't get beat up?

Frye dislocates his shoulder – Nash is continually bludgeoned to the ground, Hill reopens his stitches… Hill later was seen on camera spitting blood into a cut and having Aaron Nelson swab and clean a cut in his mouth – Robin Lopez was continually hammered blocked and even flagrantly fouled at one point… Gortat was getting knocked to the ground blocked all game, Westbrook and Harden were repeatedly barreling into stationary defenders and either getting charges or blocks called, Westbrook was physically molested/stripped on a few plays and we didn’t get beat up?

You must watch a lot of WWE.

I thought they fought hard.

When it comes to fouling guys hard as they get to the paint we just don’t have anyone on our team with that personality. Raja had it, Shaq had it and Pietrus has got it and even showed it last night. His game was pretty physical. He picked up 3 quick fouls and Gentry likely told him to calm down.

Suggestion to the NBA..

Since it is clear the league doesn’t give a crap about decent officiating (witness the SUNS game, take downs of Nash, ‘no touch fouls’, Frye etc), and the transformation of the NBA into a cross between WWE and hockey is now complete, why not have the Ref’s dress up in costumes, and have ‘Game names’ like ‘Killer K’, ‘Blindeyes Bill’, “Animal” or ‘BarnDoorBarnaki’?

Fans could hoot and holler at the ref’s and would be better able to recognize the chump ref’s, and also would know which team say ‘Animal’ usually hates or call fouls for, or whether a particular ref just makes crappy calls on anyone at anytime.

The few remaining referees who still try to officiate fairly could still wear the striped shirts, and could get into fake WWE type arguments and fights with the bad boy refs.

It might boost ticket sales and revenue, which is all the NBA seems to care about, hows about it?
