NBA Playoff Action Open Thread - Sunday, April 24. Taking Shape.

The Celtics and Heat can wrap up their series today, up 3-0 on the Knicks and 76ers, while the Hawks and Lakers can take charge of their series with wins, each up 2-1. There isn't much suspense here, save for the Hawks/Magic series. Jason Richardson and Zaza Pachulia are suspended for game 4 after their altercation Friday night, so Orlando will need someone else from among Dwight Howard's supporting cast to deliver as their season is in danger of becoming a huge disappointment.

Notes:

Carmelo Anthony will try to carry the load for the Knicks, as Amare Stoudemire and Chauncey Billups are doubtful for today's game. Had the Suns signed Amare to the max guaranteed deal the Knicks did, we'd all be troubled that Stoudemire's back can now be added to his knee and eye on the list of causes for health concern. Letting him walk was a calculated risk, just as signing him was for the Knicks. It's still too soon to say who got the best of the deal. Update: ABC's Mike Tirico reported that Amare will play today.

Jason Collins has started all three games for the Hawks so far, played around 18 minutes in each, and produced a grand total of 4 points and 4 rebounds while his team has won 2 of 3 games. Remind you of any former Sun also named J. Collins?

The Hornets need Chris Paul to be their savior on this Easter Sunday. He's averaging 25 points, 10 assists and 5 rebounds per game so far in the series, and the Hornets will need all of that and more to ward off the evil Lakers. This series has an air of inevitability about it, no?

Today's games:

Miami at Philadelphia, 10AM PDT, ABC. Heat lead series 3-0

Boston at New York, 12:30PM PDT, ABC. Celtics lead series 3-0

Orlando at Atlanta, 4PM PDT, TNT. Hawks lead series 2-1

Los Angeles Lakers at New Orleans, 6:30PM PDT, TNT. Lakers lead series 2-1.

GO!

Maybe, but we still don’t know. The Knicks and Amar’e won round 1. They made the playoffs and it’s not like they were going to beat Boston anyway. Plus, Amare’s current injury has nothing to do with his eyes or knees. His back spasms came from having to do too much. On the other hand, Sarver lost. The Suns missed the playoffs and Nash was hurting himself due to having to do too much as well.

Seeing the Knicks get swept pleases me.

And I feel no guilt or shame about it. You can call me petty or just a sore loser because we didn’t make the playoffs… I no care. In the end, getting swept in the first round is pretty much the same as not making the playoffs. I mean, you didn’t even manage 1 win when you had at least 4 chances to do so. That’s just my opinion anyway.

Plus, so many people have said Amar’e would be nothing without Steve Nash when the season started. He may have proven a lot of the haters wrong in the regular season but he has yet to win a playoff game without Steve Nash.

I know this season has shown us just how much we gave up when we lost Amar’e, but the same goes for Amar’e and losing Steve Nash. It’s a 2-way street. However, you’ll find that replacing Amar’e might be an easier feat than replacing Steve Nash. Plus, keeping Amar’e might not have meant we’d still be contending. Although the West has dropped considerably since last season, so who knows?

I love to rant.

New York went the right direction this season. We went the wrong direction.

They had some poorly timed injuries but put up a pretty competitive fight against the Celtics.
We watched from a distance.
They have something to look forward to next season.
We have rosterbation over second- and third-tier power forwards and dreams of drafting someone in the 13 hole who might actually make a difference.
Making the playoffs is always better than not making the playoffs.
Unless you aspire to be the Clippers, where every year brings a high draft choice and great seats are always available at a reasonable price.

Marion as the #2 than Amare did with Anthony as the #2. Anthony > Marion.

Blogging Suns Basketball at Bright Side of the Sun

by Alex Laugan on Apr 25, 2011 12:06 PM MST up reply actions

Sure but if it was just Nash + Marion and the rest was crap (Knicks roster)

Suns wouldn’t have won 54 games. Suns had Nash, Marion, Bell, Diaw, Tim Thomas, Kurt Thomas, and Barbosa. Knicks had Amare, Melo, Billups, Fields, Anthony Carter, Shawne Williams, Sheldon Williams, Tony Douglas.
And Melo was not a Knick for the full season. Before Melo came to the Knicks and Amare was #1 the Knicks had a better record than the Suns, even though their supporting cast was worst than the Suns.

This season...probably.

But maybe not. The Knicks got swept in the 1st round, which in my opinion is equivalent to not making the playoffs. They had at least 4 chances to get just 1 win. So getting swept in the first round is no different than the Suns not being in the playoffs.

You can say the Knicks “extended their season” but the end result is NY came out of there with injuries to their key players and had nothing to show for it. Meanwhile the Suns are all on vacation or chilling at home getting rest and watching the Knicks get swept… At the end of the day, neither team made any impact whatsoever in the playoffs. Again, that’s just how I view it. So it looks about equal to me.

And as Alex said, the past has shown Steve has been able to win without Amar’e with the right pieces in place. He made it to the WCF in 06, member? So at this point in time, there has yet to be a clear bonafide winner in the Nash-Amare breakup.

So could Atlanta.

JJ+Jamal does not equal good offense a lot of the time. They could also use Zaza, considering Dwight is finally entering beast mode.

Yeah but ATL is doing what the Spurs did to us a few years back...

Let Dwight score. Who cares. Just don’t let anyone else. And its working!

you'd want to pay him

as much as Steve Nash? Cuz that’s what he makes a season.

Getting rid of Mike Bibby was the best thing to ever happen for Atlanta.

Not exactly riveted by the action so far in these playoffs. Other than hoping LA AND San Antonio lose it’s been pretty lame. The Hornets and Pacers in the playoffs meh. snooze…

There’s no Steve Nash in the playoffs. Without him, the playoffs are boring. Look at 2009…
