If you were to trade Steve Nash, who would you like to get in return?

Star-divide

Scenario #1:

Suns Get:

Al HorfordTy Lawson

Denver Gets:

Kirk Hinrich

Atlanta Gets:

Steve Nash & Carmelo Trade Exception ($9.1M)

Scenario #2

Suns Get:

Al Horford & Kirk Hinrich

Knicks Get:

Steve Nash

Atlanta Gets:

Chauncey Billups & Amare Trade Exception ($5.4M)

I'm not advocating that we trade Steve Nash, but with New York interested, it's a scenario to consider.  I would really only do it if we could pry Horford away from Atlanta.  I don't think there's another player in the league I would want other than him for Nash.  I wouldn't even do a straight trade for Kobe or Wade.  I would consider Rondo or Rose but I'm not sure if I would pull the trigger.

I'm just putting it out there as a thought, not as a 'potential.'

***Both of these scenarios work in the ESPN trade machine***

I would like to get Horford and Lawson for Nash, but

Denver loses out in that deal. I don’t see why they would do it. Same goes for Atlanta below. They don’t want to lose Horford, it’s Smith they’re trying to trade.

Don't trade Dudley!

did you check these in the trade machine

I don’t think they are even possible, given the requirement on salary matching.

plus, you cannot combine a trade exception with players. They can only be packaged with draft picks.

I think that works

Denver essentially uses $9.1M of the Carmelo trade exception for Hinrich in a 2nd transaction.

Alex, you missed the last line of my post

I didn’t include draft picks because who knows who will be picking where next year…so by saying the exception, I figured the GMs could handle the draft pick side of the deal

My first thought was

“man, that is a lot of rosterbating”

Bismack Biyombo or Bust!!!

I can’t imagine either of those two teams are to interested in giving up their best young talents (in Horford and Lawson) for over the hill point guards or simple cap relief. Both trades would be great, moving Horford in at his natural PF next to Gortat would be great, and adding either Kirk who will be solid for another 3 or 4 years barring injury or Lawson who has top twelve PG upside even though he’ll likely never be great would be great for Phoenix. Unfortunately other teams in the league are not in the business of helping us win Chips like Memphis was for L.A.

I don't disagree

I doubt anyone would take it seriously unless Atlanta thought having Billups working with Teague might be nice for a couple years. They aren’t ‘realistic’ trades I suppose….that’s what makes rosterbating so much fun

Hey, ESPN's trade machine is broken

none of the players have their salary listed.

Anyway, I had a thought to share. My aim here was to trade Vince for contracts that are over next year, threby saving our 2012 cap space without sacrificing this season entirely.

Phoenix sends Vince Carter to Atlanta

Atlanta send Josh Smith to Charlotte
Atlanta sends Kirk Hinrich to Phoenix

Charlotte sends Boris Diaw to Phoenix
Charlotte sends the #9 overall pick to Atlanta
Charlotte sends ~$2M worth of garbage contracts to Phoenix to make salary work

Charlotte overhauls their roster, trading Boris fat ass for a real asset in Josh Smith.

Phoenix gets Hinrich and Diaw – stopgap players who can help us this season, but whose contracts ends after this season, in exchange for nothing (ie Vince)

Atlanta gets badly needed cap relief by cutting Vince, and they get the #9 pick, to bring in cheap talent, which they also badly need.

Bismack Biyombo or Bust!!!

I have said all along that Atlanta will be long to dump salary as has been reported today and that Josh Smith will be shopped heavily.

In that case, I think we are better off getting Josh Smith and some other piece (or a 3 team trade) in the trade. It is not a good time to dump Robin Lopez or Childress. Both are good players and as the season starts we will be better off with show casing and improving their trade value significantly.

Use Hakim Warrick, Brooks, Pietrus and his expiring contract as temp trade bait to get a back up PG and a round 2 draft pick.
