It's Been a Year: Jim Gray of Lebron's "The Decision" says he has no regrets
via chasing23.com
Jim Gray, the interviewer who tossed Lebron James softball questions during the infamous "The Decision" broadcast last summer, says he has no regrets at all about doing the one-hour ESPN special in which Lebron decided to "take his talents".....well everyone knows what happened that night. In fact, everyone remembers where they were that night. I was at a steakhouse that had happy hour all day, every day in San Antonio. I booed a little. I'm getting off track.
In Gray's only interview to date about "The Decision", he joined the Dan Patrick Show to candidly answer some questions about that infamous broadcast. One interesting thing he mentions is that the idea for the one-hour spectacle was originally his idea.
Read a transcript of Jim Gray's interview here, and join me after the jump for a couple questions of my own.
Mr. Gray, did you really think that the one-hour live broadcast was primarily just a way to "explain it all to the fans at one time where he is deciding to go?" If anything, this was a media event that was all about Lebron.Mr. Gray, are you really surprised at the fact that there was "so much" criticism in the wake of the TV special? I certainly wasn't too surprised by the jersey burning. I'd do the same thing if Jared Dudley left the Suns.
What think ye of Jim Gray's LebronLove, Bright Siders?

I think LeBron is LeBoned for life.
A football game is basically 22 men desperately needing rest being watched by 22,000 desperately needing exercise.
You are not getting "LeBoned" while make around $20million a year from salary alone
plus more money from indorsements, and you live in a $45m home in Miami. If I had all that I wouldn’t care what people said either.

In fact, I do. I was at the OSA Summer League watching my favorite Creighton players school some UNO guys.

Obviously it was a stupid idea.
Both he and Lebron agree that they would have done it better or gone about it differently, but I don’t know what they mean by that or how they even could have. It wouldn’t have mattered anyway because anytime someone puts themselves in the spotlight like that, they’re going to be criticized and looked upon as a selfish or a bad person by a world that is quick to judge.
I don’t know Lebron, so I can’t say if he’s a bad person. I don’t think his intentions by agreeing to this were bad. He should have thought about the consequences though. He should have realized that doing this was disrespectful to his former team. He unintentionally gave them hope that he would come back when he himself knew there was no chance. What an awful way to break the hearts of your fans.
He really showed his ignorance, but I don’t believe that’s a reason to hate someone. I think he gets a lot of unfair criticism and hate. People are learning, we make mistakes all the time. They need to give Lebron a break and stop looking for every opportunity to take him down or say, “your a bad person”. It’s ridiculous, immature, obsessive and prideful on their part. He gets more attention than he deserves and a lot of it bad, but than again those were the consequences of his actions. He made a bad decision by agreeing to “The Decision”.
Still, I’m tired of hearing about it. We all make mistakes. I’d hate it if everybody dwelt on one awful mistake I had made due to my ignorance and forever judged me upon that, especially when my intentions weren’t bad. Unfortunately, that is how the world is. Forgiveness isn’t easy and a lot of people aren’t willing to do it.
Now as far as joining up with Wade and Bosh. I don’t see what’s wrong with that? Ok, maybe it’ll hurt his status among the all-time greats, but I don’t think he really cares about that as much as other people think he does. He just wants to win a Championship with his friends.
If he does care about that? Well, then he shouldn’t have joined up with them. He should have stuck with HIS team and got guys to come to him. If nobody comes? Then he better be willing to stand by his team meaning that he’s willing to carry them as far as he can and to fall with them while not blaming others. Steve Nash is a great example of this.
However, there is one problem I had with Wade, Lebron and Bosh after they joined up. They acted like they had already won the Championship. Gosh, I really hated those stupid poses of them. They looked like a bunch of idiots. If it wasn’t for that celebration than I wouldn’t have had any problem with them. Because they did that, they set expectations for themselves that so far have been too high for them to reach. Any less than an NBA Championship for those guys is a failure and a disappointment.
Don't trade Dudley!
Great recitation, Beavis. That sums it up well.
