Markieff Morris...Doomed to be another failed brother?

So I bet your wondering, since the Phoenix Suns didn’t get to draft someone high profile like Kemba Walker or Jimmer Fredette then who was it that they managed to draft?  He couldn’t be very good…well I want you to rest assured we may have drafted one of the four players from this draft who actually has a chance of going far in this league.  In the 2011 draft the Phoenix Suns selected twin brother Markieff Morris a power forward with the skills that we have needed in a backup to Channing Frye for a while now.  He is a decent low post scorer, but his real killer ability is rebounding in 24 minutes he averaged almost 9 a game.  With a 6′ 10″ frame and broad shoulders he has the ability to become a less athletic Amare with a much better defensive presence then Stat ever was.

In all of these great additions though the best feature he brings with his game is the consistency to shoot with as much range as the player he would be coming in for.  His above 40% 3pt shooting average is an advantage that not many big men come into this league harnessing.  This also give the Suns some added looks that no other team in the league can compare with, they can potentially have 5 players on the floor who are consistent threats from beyond the arc!  Now as you can imagine this is probably not the line up that they would regularly go with, it is a nasty threat that they have and I can only see next year our 3 point average going up.

He is a young kid though, and with that comes some serious learning he has to do.  I do think that having Marcin Gortat is a great advantage because he learned from the best so he can teach our youngling all of his insider tricks.  Overall I am pleased with the Suns draft pick although there still is a large hole at the shooting guard position and unless Grant Hill can make a dramatic increase at his older age or Jared Dudley can become a much better ball handler we are still out of luck there.

I heard another bloggers idea to bring Michael Beasley to the suns and I agree that he would be a great fit, but I don’t think that he would be the only option…but that is for a different conversation.
